1) Grab coins until you eventually reach the 8x multiplier. If you are hit, your multiplier will reset. Caution would be advisable as a result, but you need to move somewhat briskly as if you are not collecting coins your multiplier continuously falls
2) Buy gear upgrades that give a boost to your multiplier. I wasn't too great with this game early on and having the boost to my starting multiplier really assisted. Not so much for this one, but I started with a 7x multiplier when going for my 10x achievement.

The multiplier in this game starts out at 1 and increases as you eat eyes and collect coins. If you get hit, the multiplier will drop to it's base value. If you don't have this achievement by the end of the game, buy and equip items that increase the coin multiplier. You have four gear slots to work with and if you choose two items which increase the coin multiplier value by 3, you can have a starting multiplier value of 6. It will be a full 6 multiplier so you will only need to raise the multiplier a little over 1 to get to get to a multiplier of 8 which is not difficult.
