NOTES
1. You must have all armor in your inventory at some point to get the achievement
2. It is not necessary to equip each piece on your character
BASIC STUFF
All armor (that are not found) are crafted at a workbench or anvil
You also need a furnace to smelt metal bars from ore to make the metal armors.
A regular furnace is made from 20 stone blocks, 4 wood, and 3 torches.
A Hellforge can be found in the Underworld
A Hellforge plus 30 adamantite or titanium will yield an Adamantite/Titanium Forge which can be used to smelt ANY bar from ore
Hallowed Bars are found from slaying Normal Mode bosses
You must break Demon/Crimson altars to make Orichalum, Cobalt, Palladium, Mythril, Adamantite, or Titanium to spawn in your world. The more altars you destroy, the more ore is created.
Souls are obtained from creatures in their respective biomes, or from farming bosses
Shroomite bars are made at an Auto-Hammer crafting station, which is sold by the Truffle, using Chlorophyte Bars and Glowing mushrooms

@aBigNoseBandit - If you scroll through the comments, there is one from me back in Feb of 2018 that says that the update removed those armors from the achievement. They are no longer required. Anyone who had them, had them turned into vanity items as so they are no longer considered armor pieces. Daeryoon just never updated his solution with this information.

Vanity slots are no longer a problem on the Xbox One. After crafting my last armor (Spooky), it went straight the vanity slots and the achievement popped. I also never purchased Tiki armor, so that one may no longer be needed.

Can confirm this still works as of 04/03/21.
What you need to do is manually pick up every single one and apply them manually too.
So it’s easiest to get a friend to loot the chest. Throw them to you one by one.
Put them on. Have a walk. Throw them back

Didn't need to equip everything, and did everything on Journey.

This is being written as of version 1.0.983.5, found at the bottom right of the main menu.
To start, if an armor set has multiple helmet variants (Mast, Helmet, Headgear, Hood etc.) you DO NEED all of the variants. This may be a change from the past, but it was the last thing I needed for this achievement. This list is in the same order found on the wiki for armors.

NOTES/TIPS
-At this time, there is a glitch with the extractinator and either the brick layer, builder potion or the architect gizmo pack that makes silt, slush and desert fossils infinite. This is an easy way to make money and get all the ore you need for the early armors.
-There maybe some armors on this list that you don't need, but I thought better safe, than sorry, as these are the armors that I had acquired and made when I go the achievement,

I unlocked this from scratch in October 2023 on V1.4.4.9.5 build 1081. Below are all the sets that I had.
The other guides are a mixture of stale and inaccurate as looks like requirements have changed over the years.
For example, the boss providing the Soul of Blight has been removed and so the armour sets once made using these items have been relegated to vanity sets and are no longer required for the achievement.
Some solutions are also listing additional armour sets not required; I definitely did not craft the Spider Set, any of the Ancient sets, the Tiki set, etc. as examples.
Take care as different sets have different quantities of pieces.
I recommend waiting till post game to grind out anything requiring drops for specific enemies. Good example are the Turtle Shell and the Mining Shirt. If you craft the Drill Containment Unit, this mount lets you clear out huge spaces very quickly. Clear out a large rectangular arena and put some simple flooring floating in the middle, approx 50 or 100 blocks in length. If you cleared out enough of a perimeter around your flooring, the enemies will exclusively spawn on the blocks and make it easier to grind out kills. Use a Water Candle and a Battle Potion to further speed up the spawns.

Full credit for the list of necessary armor sets goes to Daeryoon as his list is still largely accurate but not up to date. This is also written as of update v1.4.4.9.5
There are 3 ways to go about this achievement with two being way easier than the other with that one just being for fun or if you want to host your world for others for the achievement.
1. Simply go into another person's world who has the resources or the armor sets and grab them there.
2. You use one of the best non-tools in the game, shimmer to drastically reduce the amount of resources needed.
3. For fun, you just mine all of the necessary resources in total to craft each set in its entirety for you to either display or host your own world for the achievement.
Before going into the list and the resources needed, there are some helpful things to note. Also, I do not know if this can be done in journey mode (I would assume so since it doesn’t disable achievements), but I haven’t tested that. If it can, that would ease this even more as you’d be able to take advantage of god mode and duplicating items via research. For example, when you mine 100 copper ore, you can research it and your character is then allowed to give themselves full stacks of copper ore. If you're not hopping into someone else's world and want to do this yourself you can either attempt journey mode or classic and learn about and using your new best friend, shimmer.
Shimmer can be found at the edges of a world underground (only on worlds created after v1.4.4) and is a shiny pink liquid found in a large pool that cannot be swam through as you'll instead just phase fall through the grounds solid blocks until you hit a cavern. You cannot also use a bucket to transport the shimmer but can use pumps or a Bottomless Shimmer Bucket but that can only be obtained after Moon Lord. The key component to this method is three main aspects of the shimmer and that's its transmutation effect, downgrading effect, and ability to decraft items. For a list of everything affected and its output, check this page here as it is far too expensive to put here but I will sum up the major ones: https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/Shimmer
Also, if you have trouble finding the shimmer in your world I would follow this short section of this video. The depth isn't as important as most likely, you're just gonna dig down from the surface.
Transmutation occurs when throwing an item in and it changes into a set different item. For some this is reversible meaning if you throw in one helmet, it can change back without any consequences. For example, the jungle set can be transmutated from the ancient cobalt set of armor and vice versa of ancient cobalt can be obtained from the jungle set. For other items this is irreversible and they won't be able to change back but can still be useful in their own right such as permanent upgrades for your character or throwing gem critters in the pool to get gems from them.
Downgrading for us mostly applies to ores and gems and downgrades the ore/gem and can't be undone so be careful. It can be helpful if you have too much of one ore but not enough of a lower tier or if you are post-Moon Lord and can easily kill him, you can just farm him for luminite ore. However, I wouldn't recommend that as your first alternative as you'll probably use the luminite for end-game gear (unless you don't want to), and will take a couple of kills to get enough (a lot more for method 3).
Downgrade path for ore and gems:
Decrafting items is the real bread and butter for making this a breeze. Once you throw an item into the shimmer pool, its ingredients will float back up and can be repurposed. This means that you don't need to mine all the resources to make all the pieces, just the most expensive. This is immensely helpful when you can minimize your chlorophyte mining from a horrifying 276 bars (1,380 ore) to just 24 bars (120 ore). If you decide to go this route, I'd recommend either bringing or crafting a new anvil/workbench/loom down with you to the shimmer so you can just craft what you need, and decraft right there.
Lastly but not fully necessary is the Chlorophyte Extractinator which is crafted from 1x Extractinator and 18 Chlorophyte bars (90 ore). By placing silt, slush, and desert fossil blocks into it, it will convert them into coins, gems, pre-hardmode ores, and hardmode ores. It can also convert ores and metal bars to their other world-gen counterpart so if you have a lot of cobalt but no palladium, you can convert the bars and ore back and forth to get your desired amount.
Last helpful tip for those wanting to go with method 3 but more out of the way:
I'd recommend working on collecting the materials/sets either pre-Wall of Flesh or mid to late hard mode as at both of those points you should have relatively good mining equipment, armor, and weapons to not die. Also what should be noted is that for a lot of the Hardmode armor sets, there are usually 3 different helmet variations and these are required as well. However, for other armor sets that have ancient variants, these are not needed but can be transmutated.

And second to last is the Mining Armor Set
Mining Helmet: Can be purchased from the merchant for 4 gold coins or has a small chance to drop from Undead Miners
Mining Shirt: Has a 12% chance to drop from Undead Miners
Mining Pants: Has a 12% chance to drop from Undead Miners
Both the Mining Shirt and Pants can be transmutated between one another.
Lastly is the Wizard Hat
While in Cavern layer, there is a rare chance for an enemy to spawn that's called 'Tim' and is guaranteed to drop the Wizard Hat when killed. You can increase his spawn rate from 0.5% to 2% when wearing any of the gem robes above.
Full Disclaimer, I do not know whether you need to equip each piece like you do for the all pets achievement or if the Amber Robe is needed as it is a newer item compared to its neighbors. As I had already crafted it and others reported needing it too, I decided it'd be safer to include it. If it is shown that it is required or wearing each piece is required, I can include that with credit.
