How to unlock the Speed Demon achievement in Tetris Ultimate - Definitive Guide

You have to complete 3 speed related badges to get this achievement.

80 TPM and 60 Seconds Sprint can be done in one game. Connect a second controller and let the other player lose by stacking the blocks to the top and do the same with your main profile, but a bit slower. You will reach way over 100 TPM that way and finish Sprint in about 7 Seconds (and get a win for another badge).

An easy way to get 30 LPM is to play Battle against a second controller or Tetribot with your Handicap set to 10. Delete 3 or 4 lines and then stack the blocks to the top. If you get lucky you will reach between 30 and 35 LPM.

/edit:
The 60 Seconds Sprint method seems to be patched. It is worth to try to get it offline without the patch.

I don't think you can get 60 second sprint that way. At least for me its not counting that as a win.

I did it that way. My best time solo was around 1:45.

Yeah I tried it quite a few ways. I think you have to actually clear the 40 lines in 60 seconds, which quite frankly seems near impossible.

So just to check, you are going to Sprint - Versus with a 2nd controller and not actually clearing any of the 40 lines but just getting Player 2 to lose first?

Yes. It completes the game in a few seconds. That's the way I did it. Clearing 40 lines the regular way is way too hard.

You could try clearing one line and then letting the second player use but it worked for me without that. I didn't expect it to work. Was a nice random find.

Well I tried that and also tried deleting all my save data and starting again and it still doesn't work (for me).

I don't know what else to tell you. We need a third opinion. It worked for me, that's all I can say but that obviously doesn't help you.

Hopefully we can get some feedback from others on whether this works or not and whether there is another way ... cos Im nowhere near good enough at this to actually get all 40 lines.

How did you get the 30 LPM? Do you don't have to delete 30 lines?

I confirm the 60 seconds sprint worked fine for me. I did it with my second controller. But i have not been able to unlock the third bagde. (Even if i obtain 38 LPM the first time and 34 LPM after....)

If the 60 second sprint with a second controller isn't working for you, then try playing team sprint with the bots. Choose two apprentice level tetribots and one master level tetribot. Choose the far right matrix and you'll be put with the master tetribot everytime, then just wait for the other team to fill up the grid and lose, then quickly fill up the grid yourself. I finished my first game in 47 seconds and the medal popped for me.

You can only have one of each.

How do you choose two apprentice level bots? Mine only lets me have one of each.

The Speed Demon thing is not working for me. I don't know what to do. I got a second controller, tried sprint versus about 10 times and it didn't work whether I cleared lines, waited until the last minute, did not clear lines, etc. Then I tried with three bots, and the master bot just, you know, completes it before a minute is up, the other guys don't fail out or anything. The achievement doesn't pop either way. This is so frustrating. Even the master AI can barely do it in a minute. The pieces have to be in place instantly. I don't get it.

I wonder if this is an exploit that was patched? Because I've tried it about 100 different ways now, including deleting all of my save data and trying fresh.

I can confirm, speed demon has been patched! I did it with two Controllers before the patch and it worked fine! Then i deleted my Save to get the Self Motivation (my First High Score was to high) deleting the Save will delete all your Stars, so i wanted to do them again...! At this Point i checked that they patched it

Any thoughts on obtaining this after patch? Can you delete the patch and get the achievement offline perhaps?

I personally don't think it was patched. I couldn't do this on the 17th Dec and some ppl claim to have got it using this method after that. Its obvious you aren't supposed to be able to get the badge this way (if you look at the description of the badge you are supposed to clear all 40 lines in 60 seconds ... yeah good luck with that). I think that the ppl that did get it just had a positive glitch or something - I have been trying many different ways many times since day 1 and still nothing.

I did this without the patch! Its possible but really hard you have to practice a lot . Just one Note.I remember complete 40 Lines in exactly 1:00 Minutes! And i didnt get the badge. Then i notice it said UNDER 1 Minute. So you have to complete it actually in 0:59 Seconds.

Too bad there's no way to get the game from XBL without the patch now. 360 used to have the patches separately listed to delete.

Just got sub-60 second Sprint after getting exactly 60 seconds and it not counting. This ratio would be ridiculous if everyone had to do it legit.

All I can tell you is that you need to practice. A lot. Play a little every day. Try to minimize use of the hold queue (I didn't use it at all).

Also, I used my 19" TV instead of my 48" to have a more compact field of vision so to better recognize upcoming pieces.

Here's my replay to get an idea of how fast you need to go:

After the patch for this achievement, it has become significantly harder to do, however it is still possible. There are 3 challenges that you have to complete to get this achievement

- TPM - 80 TPM in one game
- 60 Second Sprint - complete sprint in under 1 minute
- LPM - 30 lines per minute achieved in one game

Getting the required TPM and LPM will be achieved naturally as you play this game, but if you are struggling to achieve this then the next challenge is much harder. To earn 60 second sprint award and earn this achievement, you must clear sprint mode in under 1 minute. This means you must have an LPM of 40, and a very high TPM (mine was 177 when I achieved this).

Some helpful thoughts for the sprint is that you need a balance between consistency, and speed. Clearing 40 single lines is very slow compared to clearing 10 tetrises. This is due to the animation time for the line clears is the samefor singles and and a tetris. I would also very strongly recommend starting at level 15 in sprint as it is at lot easier to play fast when the gravity is instant.

One last piece of advice is don't be afraid to restart. The time limit is VERY strict and a single mistake can ruin your run for the time, but at the same time, don't restart over a single mistake. As long as you can keep stacking for tetrises, the mistake should cost little time as you will get one triple instead of a tetris.

Good luck in earning this achievement
