How to unlock the Challenge achievement in The Banner Saga 2 - Definitive Guide

You can get this after you've seen the 'you're dead' screen, but you have to load the previous save, (not the save on the top) ....before the 'you're dead' screen goes away.

Do not load the resume save (the save on top), it resumes knowing that you died.
Choose the save spot under it. You'll replay some parts.

Don't hit any buttons to accept that you died. Pull up the menu and select load, then choose the 2nd save file.

*I don't know how long the 'you're dead' screen stays up, or if you even need it to stay up to do this, the previous save may just be enough. But supposedly, in Banner Saga 1, it ruins the whole game save file once you've accepted death. I assume this carries over.

Does anyone know if losing a training battle counts as a lost battle for this achievement?

Just a heads up that this achievement is glitched. I completed the game on Hard difficulty without losing a battle (I did reload when I was about to lose though I imagine that must be legal). I didn't even unlock the regular "Hard" achievement, just the one for normal difficulty.

Didn't have anyone die of hunger nor get low morale and didn't get any of those achievements either.

Tip from Sir Lagselot : "I've spoken with Stoic and their suggestion is to change the difficulty to hard BEFORE importing a TBS1 save, then continue to play through the game (w/Hard difficulty), and it should pop after the varl defeats the final foe."

Myself, I didn't even import a game though, it still didn't count.

Be careful if you do it with an imported save. If you lose a fight at any point in BS1, it will void the achievement even if you succeed in BS2. It is the same for "high morale" achievement.

The more secure is to exit to dashboard or reload the save from the cloud.

Another important thing is to NEVER change the difficulty level during the playthrough. The set up has to be done before beginning the game.
So, if you play from an imported save (which is strongly advised), change the difficulty BEFORE loading the save.

Yeah I didn't do either of those things. I'm trying again on a new save now but suffice to say that I'm not happy about it.

Hope you succeed. It's not so hard with Alette overwatch skill and limit Bolverk upgrades for the final fight. I managed to import a save with +200 renown which make the game really easier.

Sadly I did Alette for the first playthrough so this one I guess will be a lot harder. I don't know if I even have it in me to do it all over again with no guarantee that any of them will unlock though.

In the PC version they used to but has since been fixed, so that shouldn't be an issue on consoles. I'm leaning more towards achievements just being buggy since so many failed to unlock.

You must do that with Alette ! Only because that if you do it with Rook, you must succed the second battle of the game (Rook alone VS The world) and it's near impossible in Hard mode !

No it's not, you just keep maiming while moving in a clockwise or counter clockwise pattern, using the enemies' high unit count against them to block each other while taking no damage.

I've spoken with Stoic and their suggestion is to change the difficulty to hard BEFORE importing a TBS1 save, then continue to play through the game (w/Hard difficulty), and it should pop after the varl defeats the final foe.

Thanks for the tip, I added it to the solution. I didn't even import a save game though, but it might help someone else.

I've contacted Stoic and their suggestion is to change the difficulty to hard BEFORE importing a TBS1 save, then continue to play through the game (w/Hard difficulty), and it should pop after the varl defeats the final foe. Shouldn't matter what data you import save carries over.

I've gotten all achievements and I've beaten the game at least 4-5 times on hard. The best option is to import a TBS1 save with Alette after gaining 30 kills with your favored party member's AND Krumr, Bersi, & Mogun (these characters will help while playing as Bolverk). This is optional but, incredibly useful. I was able to get the world record globally using this method. (As of 2019)

If you play as Rook, the battle after the tutorial battle counts. The last battle in the last chapter also counts. You cannot lose any battles. Period.

You can reload your last save if a fight is going poorly to salvage this achievement, just make sure you never allow all your characters to fall so you are forced to reload.

As soon as we see that the battle cannot be won, we go to the main menu.

Keep in mind that getting a trophy is affected by defeats when completing tasks in the training tent. Do not take risks and if there is a chance that a character whose task you have not yet completed will be killed, load in immediately.
