A little tip to make this easier: if you come across a "2 of diamonds" card, hold onto it until you have 28 pennies at least. Then use it. This item doubles all your pennies, and you can earn the achievement easily by using it.

Pennies can be obtained in a variety of ways. here are some tips to follow while you go for this one. Note: You must hold 55 pennies at the same time, so don't spend any at the shop or on slot machines/beggars.

  • Pennies can drop after clearing a room, so try to clear out every floor.
  • Bombing Tinted Rocks can yield coins as well as Soul Hearts. they are a different color compared to other rocks and have an X on them, they look like this:

  • Bombing into secret rooms have the chance to yield a lot of coins, there are two general rules to follow when trying to bomb into a secret room:
    • Secret rooms must be adjacent to more than one room.
    • Secret rooms can't be adjacent to a room that has either a pit or obstacle in the way from any of the adjacent sides.
  • Bombing slot machines and dead shopkeepers can give coins.
  • Grey and Gold chests may have coins in them, however Red chests will not.

There’s no need to bother specially, because it’s usually not enough until the end of the game. There is a chance that after destruction, a dollar will fall from the machine gun (one-armed bandit), which adds 99 gold coins.

The task is to accumulate 55 coins.

Just don't spend them in slot machines or in the store and you'll get the trophy pretty quickly

At levels, sometimes there is a little man with a penny sign, if you give him ten gold coins or more, he can give you a dollar, you immediately get 99 pennies.
