How to unlock the Dead God achievement in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth - Definitive Guide

This is not an in-depth guide on how to unlock Dead God (basically, you have to do / get everything in the game to unlock this achievement) but is rather a method to make the process much easier (I am winning nearly every run now, regardless of character). I find this to be a better alternative to "Hold R to Win" as it's much less tedious (and holding the joysticks in for quick reset hurts my fingers).

Getting Missing Items

The following website appears to be working with the most current version of the game, so use this if you want to make a specific item with Tainted Cain:

https://platinumgod.co.uk/bag-of-crafting/index.html

You can also use Eden / Tainted Eden (to the extent that you have Tokens to use) to try to get some of your missing items.

If you're only missing a few items, you can try to craft Death Certificate with Tainted Cain (you need 8 bone hearts) to guarantee the item. To get bone hearts, start a game with Tainted Cain and Tainted Keeper on a second controller. Either reset until you get a first floor XL floor or play until you're on a larger floor. The idea is to find the secret room as soon as possible once you've picked your floor. Then you'll want to repeatedly craft the portable slot machine (8 pennies) or some other "cheap" recipe that creates an active item. Every time you re-craft the portable slot machine (or other active item), do it in the secret room to guarantee a bone heart. Then go out and kill more enemies, grabbing the pennies before they disappear. Blow up the donation machine too if you need more. If you are able to do this enough times on a single floor, you should be able to spawn enough bone hearts in a secret room to make Death Certificate (Jera rune will help here too).

If, like me, you have the Charge Beggar/Battery Bum challenge still left (the one for five payouts), it's definitely fastest to keep restarting greed mode as Tainted Keeper until you get said beggar in the shop (load up Isaac as your second character as you walk up into the shop each time if you want a ghost for the button). These bastards are super stingy with their payouts, sometimes not even paying out at all with an entire floor's worth of coins. Don't bother buying any items and restart after each payout.

Getting Completion Marks

The following method requires two controllers and is based off of playing two or more characters at once by pressing cn_start on the second/third/fourth controllers before leaving the starting room. Otherwise additional players will be babies and this won't work. This method is working as of March 2022 but of course is always subject to change due to patches.

The pros of playing with 2 or more controllers:

1) You get unlocks / completion marks for ALL characters you're currently using.

2) You will get TWO OR MORE boss drops (depending on # of controllers you're using) every floor (unless it's an XL floor and then you'll only get one drop from boss #1 and multiple from boss #2). This is the most broken thing about playing with multiple characters and is why runs are so much easier (I give all the items to player 1 and let all other players die).

3) You can benefit greatly from the abilities of the additional characters. Using T. Isaac as your second character is extremely broken, as item pedestals will still cycle even when T. Isaac is dead. Combined with tip 2 above, nearly any run is winnable. Along those lines, if one of your extra characters is T. Jacob, T. Esau does not hurt player 1, so you can use T. Esau as just extra damage or keep him at low health to use him as a one-room Mama Mega. I haven't really experimented with other characters.

4) Whenever there are two boss item pedestals (such as with the Polariod and Negative, or with the Options item) and player 2 is alive, you should grab both items simultaneously with each character, as this will leave two additional boss items for player 1 to grab (so player 1 gets 3+ items in this case). This is also helpful if you want to bring the Polaroid to the Beast fight, for example, as you can sacrifice the Negative with player 2.

5) The others players' health can be used as "throwaway" health, particularly on the first floor where you can get in and out of curse rooms, use temperance machines, use sacrifice rooms, and open mimic chests with these players. Can also use this to "safely" identify pills.

6) The others players draw aggro from enemies when alive and sometimes even when dead.

7) During the mom chase in the mines, the mom head tends to only focus on the other players, even if they are ghosts.

8) Can be used on Challenge runs as well, though not as flexible, as additional players will be constrained by the Challenge rules as well.

9) Use T. Keeper as one of your additional characters in Greedier mode to get tons of money. You can use the others players (even as ghosts!) to stop waves by standing on the button.

Some cons:

1) Sometimes even when the other players are ghosts, they can be "damaged", causing you to lose your angel/devil deal chance. Usually happens with bombs.

2) Large rooms can be annoying since the camera is shared between players. You'll probably have to move the other players around to get a good view of the other side of the room, or you risk getting shot from offscreen.

3) The beast fight is super annoying because any ghost players will fall into the lava and make noise the entire fight (and the controllers won't stop vibrating). Hey, this doesn't happen anymore! Neat.

4) If you quit out in the middle of a run (or, much more likely, if your game feeezes) when using T Lazarus on one of your extra controllers, the game doesn't handle it well in my experience, and you'll transform into a different character on that controller upon continuing the run and you will not get the T Lazarus completion marks. Lame!

General tips:

- Give pretty much every item to player 1.

- As noted before, abuse your additional characters on the first floor by letting them draw aggro and using them to get into and out of curse rooms etc., at least until they die.

- Dead players will come back to life after killing the floor's boss. Use this time to abuse these other players' health again for whatever you need, but always kill them again before proceeding to the next floor. This will greatly decrease your chances of losing your devil / angel deal chance (although it's not foolproof, see con #1 above).

True 100% achievement for Repentance. Get every achievement in the game, and obtain every item at least once to fill out the Items section in your stats screen.
