How to unlock the Drunken Master achievement in The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 - Definitive Guide

Directly after leaving the school with Wilbur, the scene shifts to Nate.

As Nate, you're drunk and conversing with a pirate king. After choosing the correct conversation choices (equivalent to "I'm leaving") or exhausting all conversation options, you are stopped from exiting the palace by the bounty hunter. You start a fist fight.

Scene shifts to first person and the controls are TERRIBLE. I was trying to move the sticks, pull triggers, do anything to move the fist symbol on the screen to move to the "bam", "wham", and hit-sound-cloud things. Nothing doing ... the fist just wouldn't move until quite a bit into the mini-game. When the fist could move, the sound-cloud things started moving, too.

Anyhow, quickly move your "fist" (not the first person hands you can see ... the little fist icon floating on the screen) over the cloud and hit the A button. When you do another cloud will appear. Hit all five and you'll get the achievement.

Might be worth mentioning that if you don't hit them all, just exit to main menu (before the game autosaves) and continue your game. My mistake was that I just continued the game, thinking I'd get back to this after finishing the game. For some reason though, after finishing the game, it wouldn't let me start a new game in chapter 2 (where this cheevo is), only Chapter 1 and Chapter 5 were available. Had to replay the whole first chapter to get to this again, ugh...

If you are stuck at the start of the game unable to move the fist over the cloud, just hit the menu button then click continue it worked for me anyways saves you having to sit there for 5 minutes waiting for the fist to actually move.

When you start to move the fist, move left and slight down. Hit A.

Like so many I missed this achievement and had to replay from Chapter 1. What I noticed is that if you are on chapter 2 (I was on my second play through) you can start a new game on chapters 1,2,5. So my thought is that if you miss the achievement try to start a new game and hopefully it'll give you chapter 2 as an option.

It also seemed to me that you did not have to hit the comix ballons straight-on. As long as you are in the general vicinity, just hit the "A" button and you will advance to the next ballon. Nail all five and you are golden! wink

Sorry for the mis-spelling. I meant "balloons" redface

i agree with Thulgrum. they always start at the top and they "dodge" you, so if you move towards the left, up enough that it will dodge, it goes counterclockwise. i got all 5 in a row really easily by just moving left each time.

QuickMythril's comment should become part of the official solutions. Both of them!

I got this on my second try. Pausing helped get my fist to move and moving left helped as well. What also helped is button mashing cn_A.

Sorry but I really can't upvote this solution (not downvoting it either though) simply because to me the stuff I really needed to know where "hidden" in the comments...good advice like these should be added to the solution preferably with credit...especially the tips from Thulgrum & QuickMythril is worth gold but the little "pause to unfreeze the fist" is also very helpful not to mention a timesaver, update the solution & I'll be the first to upvote :)

For anyone struggling, pausing the game and then hitting continue works to help regain control of fist and the comment advice on moving left and slightly down worked first try after I struggled with this one for quite a time until I read that advice...

If I could give @Thulgrum a thumbs up for the comment I would. That is the true solution for this cheevo. Got it first try, zero issues.

This is an excellent note ... and something I actually did. Sorry for omitting that.

As prakkero mentioned, if you fail to hit one of the balloon/hit-sound-cloud thingies, just go to the main menus and select "load" ... it'll warn you that unsaved progress will be lost but, that's the point.

I loaded-without-saving twice as the controls are really bad and it seems to take 20-30 seconds before you can move your "fist" ... and by that time (and because it's a new game mechanic), you're wondering how you actually moved it.

And I don' think I mentioned it above, but the cloud items WILL move. As your "fist" gets closer, they'll start to drift away.

Thanks for the reminder, prakkero ... guess I'm trying to forget this annoying achievement as quickly as I can.

This achievement is obtained immediately at the start of Chapter 2 in the very first conversation and is MISSABLE:

After completing the dialogue with the Pirate King and attempting to leave you are required to take part in a drunken mini game. The game consists of you controlling a small white fist symbol which you must then line up with a large Whack symbol which rotates around the screen. The fist symbol moves very slow while the large word moves very fast so it will take a few seconds to line the two up. As soon as the fist symbol turns purple then the two are lined up and you need to immediately hit the A button.

You need to repeat this process 5 times. You will notice that not only will each word change but they will become increasingly smaller and faster. There are two issues you need to be wary of:

1: If for any reason you take too long and fail to hit one of the words then you will fail the achievement, if that happens you MUST reload before the fight scene concludes. If you do not then you will need to replay chapter 1 to get another chance.

2: The start of game is bugged and people report they often have no control until around 30 seconds into the game, however there is a way to beat this issue. If after a couple of seconds you have no control, then pause the game, then immediately unpause and you will have full control.

Chapter 2: This trophy is very missable in that it is part of an automatic conversation at the beginning of the chapter. You will get no second chance to unlock the trophy as you must fulfill all requirements the first time.

Make a backup save before having Wilbur leave the school in Chapter 1 just to be sure.

As part of the story, Nate will engage in a Drunken Punch minigame. There are 4 floating symbols that you must punch to earn this trophy. If you fail, immediately press  and re-load the game to try again. If the load has you in the wrong spot then use the backup save that you made.

Since you are controlling a drunken Nate the controls are horrible and it is very easy to miss this trophy.

Chapter 2: This is an easily missable achievement at the very beginning of the chapter. Nate will start a Drunken Punch minigame with the gnome bounty hunter. There will be four floating symbols that you will need to "punch" in order to unlock this achievement. Unfortunately the controls are quite terrible, and the symbols will try to flee your cursor. Your best bet is to mash the A button while you move the cursor in the general direction of the symbol. If you fail to hit the symbol after a few seconds, it will disappear. If this happens, IMMEDIATELY pause the game and reload your last save. This may take a few tries, which means you will have to skip through quite a bit of dialogue, but it shouldn’t prove too difficult.
