How to unlock the Float Like A Butterfly achievement in The Callisto Protocol - Definitive Guide

Just unlocked this after an hour of trying it and figured out why I couldn't. Make sure all combat accessibilities are OFF. The auto dodge seems to not allow you to do a perfect dodge because it triggers at a specific time, each time. Also, saw a video that shows to wiggle the analog stick left and then right as soon as you see the animation start. Not a full push to the left or right, but barely enough to make the controller register the input. I was barely moving it halfway, left then right, quickly. Hope this helps someone else. Unlocked it in less than a minute after turning off the options.

Got mine cumulative over my normal play through and my hard play through. Aim assist on and set to 2 on both play throughs. Got it just before my character looks out of the prison with the nice view of the planets and talking about going underground.

I beat the game without getting, so I just loaded up the final boss and got this in 2 minutes by just wiggling the left stick back and forth as fast as I could. One out of every 7 or so dodges was a perfect dodge so I just kept dodging until I got to 5.

Most importantly to understand is that it is not about a pre-charged evasion. Relatively, it is simply required to react (left/right) just before the geometries of the characters would collide. A Perfect Dodge is indicated by a slightly yet noticable slowed down performance of an evasion action.

By the way, the relative Auto Dodge interferes with the controls used with LS, consequently makes the combats brutally fail without true sense of control of the player. Its script seems to be imperfect and ultimately is rendered more than just being useless. I strongly recommend to not have it active.

I beat the game on Maximum security without a single perfect dodge then got the achievement on the first enemy of New Game+ after reading this. Thanks!

A good place to unlock this is on Chapter 2: Outbreak.

After using an elevator to go downwards you will crawl through some rubble that goes into Cellblock 18 P180. After this an enemy will climb onto the platform in front of you.

External image

Just before this you will get a checkpoint right before the enemy spawns. It took me a good 5 minutes or so to unlock this as it would dodge normally 9/10.

I saw a tip in a video on YouTube they said to wiggle the analog stick left and right. I tried that and although I wasn't getting a perfect dodge 100% of the time my success rate definitely went up. Also, I see people say it's cumulative but for me that didn't seem to be the case. I got a perfect dodge in the chapter Outbreak, and I decided to go ahead and try to knock it out on the next chapter. I dodged an enemy two times, died, checked progress and it was at 60%. I pulled off one more dodge in the next attempt, died, checked and it was still 60%. After I found that wiggle tip I managed to get 4 in one life and it popped since I had already gotten one earlier, so it seemed like it wasn't saving my progress if I didn't hit a checkpoint or just finish it right then and there. Maybe it used to be cumulative, but it got changed in an update or something because I know I've started this game after there have been some updates. But if for some reason if someone has their progress not updating you may need to do it all right then and there or hit some checkpoints.

To perfect dodge you have to flick the left stick in the left/right direction as enemy is winding its attack up. You know you'll done it correct when the game go slow-mo.

This is cumulative and will track across the game even after deaths.

-I found this to be buggy with the enemies. I'd get a perfect dodge on the ones that are dressed up like inmates but the tracker wouldn't move. The ones I noticed that the tracker would move on was the "naked" type of enemy. Some even stated you have to hit the enemy after you get the perfect dodge to count. Just keep trying and eventually it will unlock.

As others have stated in the comments this is a very buggy achievement. For some it tracks across all available enemies you can dodge, and for others like me only certain enemies. If you beat the game and haven't got this, just load up a new game on the easiest difficulty and in the chapter Outbreak as you make your way to the elevator an enemy will jump out in front of you. There is a save right before there that you can sit and farm the perfect dodges with.

I spammed the left stick left to right, and took me like 10 minutes to get the 5 perfect dodges, it's super strict lol

That's what I did as well, the dodging is 50/50 in this game. Were you able to farm one enemy? I had to find 5 different ones to do it to.

For anyone struggling with the timing, try flicking your joystick fast in the direction you want to dodge then back to its normal position instead of holding it in one direction. I couldn't get any perfect dodges before I started doing that. Also, as other have said this achievement is pretty buggy and must be done on separate enemies.

I used flicking the stick quickly back forth left and right just as enemy attacks and it absolutely doesn’t work 90% of the time it still took me 45 mins to get three dodges.

It is highly amusing that a game like this where they give you dodging and it is very important to stay alive but getting 5 perfect dodges is harder then completing the game on the hardest difficulty - bizarre really

Lol yea the dodging is really bad in this game. The melee combat is atrocious as well, if there's more then one enemy surrounding you, there's no chance to live on the hardest difficulty.

I started a new game and did this on the 2nd infected you fight. Each time the game activated the dodge it counted, so it does not need to be unique encounters you can spam it on 1 enemy.

The flicking trick worked for me. At first, it wasn’t but then I started SLIGHTLY flicking, and I literally got 3 in a row lol I think that if the joystick goes all the way out (like max input), it wont work.

I’ll have to start a new game to get this? The tracker is stuck. I did some slow mo dodges recently and it hasn’t tracked.

As stated by another commenter just flicking the left stick left and right right as they're attacking worked perfect for dodges. About 90% of the time I'd get a perfect dodge. I'm not sure if the type of enemy matters but only the "naked" fast moving ones would count on my tracker. Every other one didn't.

I found the naked or clothed enemy didn’t matter for me because at first I had 40% (2 perfect dodges) after my initial play through. When I attempted this I got 1 off the second enemy (Clothed) heading towards the elevator in Outbreak. It wouldn’t accumulate after that so I thought maybe it had to be a different enemy every time (which is incorrect, you can get them all on the same enemy) yet when I attempted this again on the enemy (Naked) after the lift going down a floor. Instead of just dodging, I found that I had to follow up with an attack after the perfect dodge for it to count. Don’t know if anyone else had the problem but I almost gave up after it wouldn’t advance the progression bar until I attacked him in frustration and noticed it progressed 😂.

After spending so much time tapping left or right once each time, I couldn't get it throughout the entire game. After restarting to get this last achievement, I tried hitting Left-Right or Right-Left, hitting both directions each time. It worked almost immediately and I was getting perfect dodges every few tries. The earliest save I had was when you first get a chance to use the GRP. I did it on the enemy that comes through the door.

Yeah, definitely completely broken. I'm even doing a full dodge move and still getting hit. Or I'm getting it and it's just not counting it.

Edit: Literally the only thing that worked in my case was fully quitting the game, and then on the next load the very first dodge was always perfect.

For anyone struggling with this, I found that I needed to dodge much earlier than I was expecting to. Once I realised this, I was perfectly dodging every time.

Flicking the stick ever so slightly is definitely the easiest way to get the slow motion animation imo

@Sosa I fully agree. Nothing was working for me until I started flicking the thumbstick to dodge. Once I discovered that I started perfect dodging nonstop.

After some testing, I’ve found a perfect dodge isn’t a dodge at the very last second. You need to dodge as the enemy is winding up their attack - half a second or so before it connects.

Just want to say that Sosa Adlibs tip to gently "flick" the analog stick as the monster is winding up got me a slow-mo dodge every time. Got the achievement in less than a minute. Don't hold the stick when dodging. Just flick it.

I finished my first play through at 80% and decided to load an auto save that was at the beginning. For some reason the perfect dodges weren’t registering with the regular enemies so I switched to a save where I could find the acid spitting enemies. Pulled off a perfect dodge pretty quickly and it popped. So my suggestion for anyone who can’t unlock it is the same as NoFeetPicPls.

This is the toughest conditional achievement in the game.

This is best done on the 2nd enemy in Chapter 2: Outbreak. Make sure you start the encounter with full or near-full health. If Auto Dodge is on in the Accessibility menu, you won't need to alternate left and right while dodging.

Start by dodging and removing one of the enemy’s arms to prevent it from attacking you with a combo. Then alternate dodge directions (cn_LSl, cn_LSr, cn_LSl, etc.). Make sure you press the stick far enough in the dodge direction to actually execute the dodge, but do not hold it.

You will know you executed a perfect dodge if the game goes briefly into slow motion. This will take some patience and practice. The game is very sensitive with this achievement and the timing window is only a few frames.

Please excuse me in advance for the translation I am French-speaking.
The description of the achievement can be confusing in some guides, here is how to unlock it without asking questions.
You must ANTICIPATE the enemies' blows, so press the left or right joystick in advance then wait for the enemy to attack, if the manipulation worked and the game saved your manipulation the perfect dodge will be triggered by slowing down time. The perfect dodge aims to predict the blows that the enemy can possibly deal you even when he is not attacking and this without perfect timing. Plan the manipulation of the joystick before a future enemy attack and not just before suffering it, and this without blocking the joystick in one direction, the goal is not to move but to stay in place facing the enemy.
In short, stay still facing an enemy, press left or right with the joystick and if the enemy attacks you the perfect dodge will be triggered automatically without further manipulation.

The perfect dodge is an interesting one in this game because it’s not immediately obvious whether you’ve been successful - and the game doesn’t actually tell you about perfect dodges at all.

The crux of this achievement is that you basically wait until the last second to hold a stick direction to dodge an attack. If you’re holding it one direction it won’t count, but if you press it at the last second, it’ll register as a perfect dodge. It took us a while to unlock this one, and didn’t get it until well into Chapter 7 (naturally), so if needs be, find an enemy early on in the game whose moves are telegraphed and not likely to one-tap you (and is close to a checkpoint), and then grind this out with them. If you die, whatever, reload the checkpoint and try again.

An indicator that you have made a perfect dodge is that time is slowed down for a couple of seconds, so as not to have to worry about selecting timing when you hit an enemy, quickly move the stick from side to side to the left and to the right

The main thing is not to forget to go to options - special settings - help in the fight - and then turn everything off, it helped me
You need to press the left stick left and right, very quickly, do not press the left stick down

The ideal dodge is to double tap to one side before attacking. Of course, as they write above, twitching the stick helps, but game-mechanically such a dodge is useful and I recommend mastering it.

No matter how much I read the tips above, absolutely nothing worked, not even twitching with the stick. I figured out this method myself, without any random clicks. For the game to count this dodge, you need to turn the stick left or right when the enemy jerks in your direction and runs towards you, and not when he is already close to you.

The trophy is clumsy! For the entire game completed on max difficulty, only 3 dodges were counted
After passing 10 minutes I tried unsuccessfully to dodge - nothing
The secret is this: even before the mob approaches, start frantically moving the stick left and right without stopping - the mob will attack without causing damage until the trophy falls out; worked in less than a minute on the first try

What's interesting about the perfect dodge move in this game is that it's not immediately obvious whether you've succeeded, and the game doesn't actually tell you about the perfect dodge move at all.

The idea behind this trophy is that you essentially wait until the last second while holding the direction of the stick to dodge the attack. If you hold it in one direction it won't count, but if you press it at the last second it will count as a perfect dodge. It took us a while to unlock it, and we only got it in Chapter 7 (naturally), so if you have to, find an enemy early in the game whose moves are logged and are unlikely to one-hit you (and who is nearby checkpoint) and then discuss it with them. If you die, no matter what, reset the checkpoint and try again.

Easily completed in the fifth chapter in a location where you need to get into the caves, having previously killed a dozen enemies. There will be four four-legged creatures running around there. If you turn your head from side to side, you can see from afar how this thing is rushing towards you. We look at him and, as he approaches, we begin to hysterically click the left stick in any direction. If you succeed in perfect evasion, there will be a short-term time dilation.
