How to unlock the The Protocol is About Life achievement in The Callisto Protocol - Definitive Guide
This achievement did not unlock for me and I completed it normally from start to end on max difficulty TWICE. ONCE over 2 days and then clean from uninstall to completion in one day. Has anyone else found the same? I emailed the developer about this. Now on 4th potential playthrough (second time with max) and I can say I’m wicked at this game now.
The following tips will help beat this:
- Focus only on Electrostick Damage & Combo, Riot Gun, Hand Gun, Glove and Assault Rifle. Don’t worry about tac pistol or fancy shotgun.
- For Two Headed you should use Riot Gun. Run around a static object to kill easily with single shot, run, single shot run and keep running around. Best strategy all 4 times you face them. Immediately run up to them and whack them 3 times. During the removal of half the body, that is when you can reload.
- You only get more inventory at LOST (Chapter 4) so most useless item worth only 10 Callisto Disney dollars is the GRP battery. Leave these when you come across an item you can sell for 100 instead since upgrades are everything here.
- Before tram journey, sell injectors as all you need is hand glove to throw 4 x enemies off each side and then if you get hit by two head poopoo head then you’ll be Insta killed anywayz. Remember. The goggles. They do nothing!! (Simpsons)
- Don't worry about timing for the combat system. Start holding left stick to the left when you start a fight and then immediately switch to right side. You will barely get hit. Same strategy for the rip off Fantastic 4 large angry warden boss that for some reason turns blue. Monsters will back off once they finish their combo and actually allow you to return fire.
- Don't waste bullets unless the stronger enemy is coming out and you need to hit tentacles. Pistol shots will do for this x 1 or 2.
- Fight single enemies with Baton as it’s worth getting the credits or whatever they drop or selling it. If you have a green unlockable door and multiple enemies then let one run in and it will close. Just you and the generic zombie until the next opponent gets let in (effective in Colony part 2 post fall)
- Upgrade assault rifle up to penultimate upgrades. You do not need 4500 upgrades
- Do not worry about upgrading baton all the way even though you probably did this first playthrough.
- Upgrade glove until full if you like at least on capacity and recharge. Don’t worry about throwing enemies to smash them. However for blind guys do not get spike throw happy on them and use patience instead. Glove should be a last resort thing to distance yourself from enemies.
- Game is glitched so you can throw enemies to a non moveable part of land and they will die e.g. above barrels or off walkways especially in Colony.
- Take your time with the blind enemies and aim for backstab every time. Their movement is random ish and sometimes you’ll get annoyed but don’t panic and take your time here as alerting one will make the others swarm. They actually pose the least threat single headedly but if alerted can telepathically tell all their blind mates where you are at.,
- The game is not scary so press on and take this game on with guts and march forward fast as possible
- Final boss, all you need is constant assault rifle in the face and then when running around shoot some exploding crawlers and go back to face shooting. It takes 3 times of face shoots and repeat. The exploding crawlers come out in pairs and come form left and right side to the centre. Stay in the centre and circle around the centre circular monument.
- Penultimate boss before you get the lift just needs left and right between 4-8 times each swing round. Do not worry about wasting bullets on that guy
- you can stab the blind generic zombies and it doesn’t alert the others as long as you are not touching the others around it like a packed train carriage distance.
- try not to lose the will to leave during the unskippable cutscenes that remind you of why this is a PlayStation game that has found it’s way onto the Xbox store.

can confirm did max difficulty all way through and no unlock. All the tips Carlos mentioned are fantastic hope they patch and we don't have to replay through it

Method done with disc. All the credit goes to related_browser1 over at PSNProfiles.
Make sure you have a save file for the pods' portion on the run. Once you do, exit and delete the game. This next part is up to you. Choose between turning off the internet connection on the PlayStation or canceling and deleting the update.
Once you do this, load the game up so that it is on version 1.000.000. The game will not let you make a manual save and will crash before any auto-save. You will have to fix this, and it is pretty simple.
Make sure you have an auto-save open. You only need one at this time. If you have to delete one, make sure it is not the file where you start running for the pods.
Start a new game, and it will immediately make an auto-save. I recommend the new game being on Maximum Security.
Now try and load the other file you plan on using. Yes, it will say Callisto the Start on Minimum Security. All of the files will. Ignore it. This should cause the game to crash.
We are doing just fine. Make sure you are not updating the game and go back into it. Load the file near the end of the game, as mentioned before. Now, you should notice your weapons don't match up. At least they never did for me. Change the difficulty to Maximum Security. Even if the file already says Maximum Security, you must make this change as it claims to be set on Medium Security. Also, you need another autosave slot open, and if you have to delete one, it's not the one you are currently using, just in case.
Now die. This should force an auto-save. It does not always work, but try again. You will now have zero items, period. If it worked and it was saved, you should now be able to make a manual save. With that done, beating the game should net you the trophy/achievement at the end of the cinematic, where Jacob kills all of the enemies with no gun and no stun baton. He is literally pointing his finger at them.
So what I did differently was that I let the credits start to roll. Saved again. Updated the game back to the most current. Loaded the game (I did not hit continue), and did the final run again. Achievement popped at the credit scene.

Update: Looks like this maybe only works now if you have an older save. I'll continue to update this when I get more info.

This guide works as of patch 1.011! I like many of you missed the boat on the trophy by playing the game on easy then reloading the last checkpoint on maximum security. BUT! I AM HERE TO TELL YOU I GOT IT TO WORK ON 02/07/2023!!
I reloaded the save I had back from around patch 1.07 and it worked!!
I have no idea if you have to have the save prepatch or not just figured I should share the success!
Just to recap. I did start the game on maximum security difficulty. I then lowered it a few checkpoints into the game, after finishing the game I reloaded the last checkpoint and changed the difficulty to maximum security.

Be aware that the relative Auto Dodge interferes with the controls used with LS, consequently makes the combats brutally fail without true sense of control of the player. Its script seems to be imperfect and ultimately is rendered more than just being useless. I strongly recommend to not have it active.
In order to perform functional Dodges, be sure, and think, about holding as much straight (accurate input required) as possible in either chosen direction. Alternate it during the Enemy's Combos. It is perfectly save to expect the Enemy to attack two times until the transformations have appeared. Then, expect three attacks from Enemies. It is perfectly save to perform a Dual Combo on an Enemy. Sometimes, a third Attack will end brutally.
Dealing with hordes of Enemies, is savely undertaken by using Gravity and your most intelligent ideas of using the environment against them (I recommend to Upgrade its 2/3 Capacity aspects first, but first focus on Stun Baton's left, then right aspects; I completely disregard Guns in this video game, until a lift ride sequence with a tougher enemy, in order to shoot at it; I recommend, if you will, to not pick up Weapon Schematics because of several important factors to preserve and others to keep focusing on - you will understand later; but, of course, experience gaming in your way at first, as you should or wish).
Enemies without sense of hearing are best instantly destroyed with a Shiv, when possibe. They will be alerted by collision or sound within about 1.5 meter radius. They can rush towards you while they are still unalerted - this lets players think they would be alerted though/already, but they are not - retreat and try low profile too, then focus on stealth attacking as practiced.
Due to the lack of item capacity (limitation), I sell every item to preserve a blank inventory, until a lift ride became foreseeable; Then I keep Ammunition at least. It can be bad not to have any/enough Ammunition on several battles versus tougher Enemies. At one point you can decide to use Gunfire in order to chain Combos - depending on play style preference and/or situation. This is well invested Ammunition (think about a solution to prevent being crowded by more than just two (Necramorphs), when you can spare it fairly easily from then on eventually.
A hint for truely/seriously stepping back when necessary: Normally Enemies have one head, but if negative, then be serious (you can hardly believe it) to extend (further extend) and build up distance for Ranged Attacks against them. If not possible to do, then perfectly be ready to face the Enemy and Dodge, then retreat with that maximum great distance, and try to exterminate that Enemy by recommended Gunfire. If they kneel down, be sure to cut a seam (Close Combat Interaction; Timed).
What is if you get in trouble with a Superhero inDead Space? Remember, the rule of two (Dodges/attacks), then ultra easy to smash them down to the ground.
A hint to deal with the last Enemy: Face the Enemy and Dodge; Retreat with a fairly great distance; Ranged Attack; Use Grip (Gravity), and haul long red interactable gas vessels at that Enemy; Use entire Ammunition, if you will; You can haul dangerous smaller gas infused Enemies at that Enemy, especially for a solution if player ran out of Ammunition - these smaller Enemies will come in waves indefinitely until the end.

I am best playing it on Maximum Security difficulty level, which is just slightly increased in difficulty in relation to the others (I have performed three adventures accross two systems; most notably is the Enemy's movement speed (aggression), but if Melee Combat is mastered, difficulty level seems effectively not to matter: Rule: Conscious use of pre-charged Dodges and strategic (safety limited) Attacking, and finding ways to deal with crowds of Enemies at once, rather than using Melee Combat, when possible.
Also the Checkpoint system serves convenient, and hits adventure difficulty with a hard stroke. I prefered a Save Game system without Auto Save, only because its convenience takes away the tension/realism and seriousness of challenging gaming atmosphere, that I miss since Dead Space 2. Do I cry a river? Yes, but how long will it go?
It is wise to produce a Checkpoint mapped Save Game (perform Manual Saves) for each Chapter initially.
You can perodically (after every Chapter) cross check other Achievement's Solutions' information with what you have collected/achieved. As of right now, December 2nd 2022, (I don’t believe this has been patched yet) you can change the difficulty after beating the last boss, then beat the game and it should unlock. Sometimes you will have to close the game out, reload a save and switch the difficulty back and forth but it will pop eventually.

Was able to do this on New Game +, which makes it much easier. Do a full run on easy first to get max upgrades and the other trophies and use fully upgraded weapons through NG+ on max security to make your life easier.

Conserve your ammo, master the dodging mechanics, use stealth where possible and you should be okay. In terms of your upgrade path, making sure you unlock the 'blocks do no damage' perks (in the stun baton tree) is imperative, as is upgrading the GRP - all of it, if you can. The alt-fires on all the guns are great, but you'll rinse your ammo that way, so don't rely on these too much or even unlock them in the upgrade tree. The GRP should be your go to strategy, as 1) it regenerates, and 2) if you upgrade the throw, you can not only use enemies as weapons or crush them into walls, but it gives you some much needed breathing room.

Patch 1.07 also works, the patch update came out, installed it, then I read that you can do this on 1.6, tried it on 1.7, and it worked, I got a prize after the credits.
