How to unlock the Redemption achievement in The Cave - Definitive Guide

This is achieved for getting all the "good endings". These seem quite unknown and I too wondered very long how to get them.

In order to get these, you have to play through the game with every character. At the very end you will get the objects you desire (e.g. mini-Sarcophagus for the adventurer, excalibur for the knight, rat poison for the twins.... etc). Don't take them with you! Press X in front of the shop keeper (I think you have to do this twice or more in order for him to accept) and you will return these items. Now go on through the door and up the ladder without that object and get the good ending for this character!

Do this with every character, and you'll unlock this achievement. (Note: For all characters for both good and bad endings you need at least 5 runs in total)

Plus: You will get two more artworks for that character which are needed for the following achievement:
The CaveThe Whole StoryThe The Whole Story achievement in The Cave worth 118 pointsCollector of forgotten dreams.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, might be a good idea to add it to your guide as I'm sure others will want to know this.

Is it possible to get good and bad endings in the same run ? Or will you need 6 runs of the game to get all good and all bad ones?

6 runs. You can only get one ending per character per run.

Wouldn't it be 5 runs? Say if you did good first your first would be good for 3, second good for 3, third good for the one you haven't done and bad for two of the ones you have, fourth bad for 3 of the remaining 5, and fifth for bad for the remaining 2 plus another character.

Yes, you only need 5 runs, not 6. Might want to edit that.

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but on the multiple playthroughs, you can "skip" the entire Zoo puzzle by bringing along a spare hot dog from the vending machine in the prologue. Make sure you keep it with you through the other trials, and when approaching the Zoo, lead with a character who does NOT have the hot dog.

He'll get taken by the beast and then you can move the player with the hot dog down to where the beast is resting. The beast will come out, sniffing the hot dog, and he'll fall through the bridge as normal. No need to view the hunter's cutscene or get the recorder, or even find your companion who was taken by the beast. You're done, and can move on to the next Trial!

(In addition to XBU Philippe's explanation, that this is giving back the item you "won", and going up the ladder empty handed for each character)

Technically (if my maths is right) you only need 5 playthroughs to get all achievements.

There are 7 characters, to a total of 14 possible endings (good and bad each). As you can take 3 characters per go this means 5 playthroughs, and one character you take through 3 times (I'd recommend the Hillbilly on that one - to get the fortune teller achievement too).

The CaveDon't Fill Up On Fortune CookiesThe Don't Fill Up On Fortune Cookies achievement in The Cave worth 44 pointsPeered into everyone's fate.

Plus if you divvy them up correctly - you can get the following two achievements in those 5 playthroughs as well:

The CaveWeight of the BeastThe Weight of the Beast achievement in The Cave worth 23 pointsThe scale reveals a baleful figure.

The CaveWho Wants to Live ForeverThe Who Wants to Live Forever achievement in The Cave worth 123 pointsNobody died.

For this trophy, you must obtain the “good” ending for all 7 characters. To do this, you must return your Object of Desire to the Gift Shop clerk. After you go through the “Employees Only” section for the second time and retrieve the three replacement trinkets, talk to the clerk and he will swap the trinkets for your Object of Desire. However, instead of walking through the door and up the ladder, talk to him again three times with . Eventually he will take the Object of Desire back, leaving you empty-handed. Walk through the door and up the ladder and you will receive the “good” ending for that character.

Required: All seven characters good endings (at least three playthroughs).
To get the good ending you need to trade a stolen trinket for your prized possession in the Gift Shop and then give the prized possession back. It will take three attempts before the man accepts it. Then just climb the ladder to leave.

You need to complete the game with all the characters. You need to leave the cave without the things that the clerk gives you. To do this, you just need to go to the clerk and press the action button a couple of times
