How to unlock the Hard way to hell achievement in The Crew 2 - Definitive Guide
This achievement requires you to complete an event on hard difficulty.
All events in each discipline have two difficulties: Normal and Hard. Difficulty is always set to normal, and the recommended performance level will be relatively low. Once you've beaten an event once (no longer flashing on the map), you can select the Change Difficulty option and switch to hard, which gives you about 20% more followers and bucks.
Now when you see the recommended performance for hard difficulty races, you'll notice you'll need to seriously upgrade your car to be competitive. Luckily you can actually do this easier early on in the game.
After you reach the Popular level, you'll unlock Papa John's Street Race, located south of Chicago on the map. For both normal and hard difficulty, the vehicle is loaned to you. This means that your vehicle specs will be competitive with the recommended specs, allowing you to be competitive on hard without having to invest the time earning upgrades for your cars.
Once you beat this race on normal, you can do it on hard. It shouldn't be too difficult but it will obviously take a bit of skill to do. Once you beat it on hard, you'll get your achievement. If it takes you a few tries, don't worry as you may earn the achievement for retrying a race 3 times.

I can't seem to win on this event with the Camero, tried the whole race 6 times the best I could manage is 3rd place but the guy in first was still 9 seconds ahead. There's got to be an easier event?

If you're unable to do this, you'll just have to wait until you upgrade a vehicle enough to have it competitive for Hard events, which is normally pretty close to their max levels which is easily 10+ hours into the game if not more.
I haven't finished all the races yet, but this is the only race I've come across so far with a loaned vehicle provided that you do not keep after winning. Other races I've come across where you get to keep the loaned vehicle after completing it on normal are the Mercedes pick up truck (rally raid) and the vintage Mercedes touring car. Because you own these vehicles after you complete the normal difficulty race, you now need to upgrade these to be competitive for the hard difficulty race.

This can be completed in the "Airport Terminal D" Drift Event. Make sure you set the event difficulty to hard for the Hard Way to Hell achievement / trophy. Use any drift vehicle you are comfortable with and keep an eye on your multiplier. You should be able to reach a multiplier of 50 if you do not hit any walls and maintain your drifts. This may take a couple tries, but keep at it.

This is the only difficulty related trophy in the game. All it requires is the completion of just 1 event on hard difficulty. One of the easiest is the "Airport Terminal D" Drift event. This is the course that you will be grinding your car level out on so you should be a pro at this track by the time you have maxed your car out. You need to earn 107,000 points to win this. You will need to try to get at least two long continuous drifts in. See Drift Like A Tester for more info.

Easily completed in the street racing category, in the "Crash" event.

If it doesn’t work out, you can go through the first freestyle mission on a standard plane.

It’s better to combine it with the “Feel like a tester” trophy and go drifting on the first track, which is called First track, gaining 102,000 points

It’s very easy to pass the hard level on alpha gp (formula 1 cars) with level 288. The car passed the heavy level (320 recommended) on easy with an 8 second lead even + a lot of gold falls with juicy buffs (x2 fans) and so on.
