Easiest way to do this is to invite people to the crew from the car meet (where you spawn in). I had anywhere from 20-30 people in my game and the list is constantly updating. Once you have a full crew of 4, go to any playlist race you've already done and change the time of day to make it a custom event. Finish the race and you're done!

I steadily invited randoms for about an hour. I finally got 3 others, setup the race and 1 disconnected. I just want to confirm that after the disconnect and finishing the race the achievement still popped for me.

This trophy can be a nightmare if you are unlucky, however there are some hints that can be taken into account to get it.
First of all: The aim is to complete a custom event when being a member of a crew of 4.
What is a custom event: it is any event from any playlist which has been altered, I.e a weather or time of the day has been changed, what leads to changing the layout of event presentation, showing Custom in black and yellow colours.
Most solutions suggest that all crew members need to complete an event together, however it is only one way of doing it.
Due to Ubisoft’s way of dealing with multiplayer, it can be difficult to even launch an event upon gathering 4 players. This is because the servers are extremely picky and I found it a lot easier to play demolition royale or grand race. Simply: it’s very likely someone gets kicked out from a crew or even more likely that upon launching the event will be left alone, kicked out from the race.
Completing the event with 3 other players grants a trophy. Easier said than done.
And here is the hint: if for any reason you are kicked out from the event whilst launching it, please complete it. Do not abort or come out to dashboard. Complete the event alone, as long as nobody left the crew, as being a part of a crew is the most essential part of the trophy. I unlocked my trophy this way and later confirmed it with another player who needed help as well.
It may especially help players who have Nat Type 2 (probably most of PS5 players, like me), even with port forwarding enabled and static IP address set up.
I would also advise to have most players in the same session (as per crew management), as otherwise players do not see each other in the game (but can play races together) what can cause another connection issues.
It’s a shame that Ubisoft did not learn a lesson from The Crew 1 or The Crew 2 in relation to crew related trophies as the rest of the game is great and offers lots of fun.
