How to unlock the The Modfather achievement in The Crew - Definitive Guide
Introduction
There are 4 parts to this achievement:
1) Reaching Player Level 50
2) Reaching the Los Angeles HQ via progression in the main story.
3) Earning and equipping certain perks
4) Unlocking and equipping Level 50 Platinum car parts
The guide below will go through each part in turn, although it’s important to note that they do not run in order and that you can fulfil some of each of the 4 criteria as you go along.
1) Reaching Player Level 50
The Crew has an XP system and pretty much every action in the game, be it visiting landmarks, completing missions or playing PvP matches, grants XP. Given the volume of requirements elsewhere to get this achievement, you will get to Level 50 through natural play. However, if you wish to rank up quickly, the following are some relatively pain-free methods:
• Play lots of PvP free-for-all races. They’re short and offer a lot of XP.
• Repeat lots of skills – specifically Jump Skills, which often take less than 30 seconds and can reward up to 700XP.
You can also use the ‘Missionary’ perk from Zoe, which increases the rate at which you earn XP, however be sure to leave yourself enough perk points for later.
2) Reaching the Los Angeles HQ via progression in the main story
Tuning a car to Level 1299 requires you to have certain perks maxed out (see below). One of these perks can only be purchased from ‘Vincent’, who is only unlocked once you have established the Los Angeles HQ – approximately 75% of the way through the story.
3) Earning and Equipping a Certain Perks
You earn one perk point every time you level up and can use them to buy a variety of perks from the members of your crew. Specific to this achievement there are some that you must buy and you will need 30 points in total. These are:
• One a Dime – Zoe – 5 Points – Increases your cars braking.
• Like a Glove – Omar – 5 Points – Increases your cars handling
• Light the fires – Alita – 10 points – Increase your nitrous boost.
• Shifting Gears – Roxanne – 5 points – Increases your acceleration
• Redline – Vincent – 5 points – Increases your speed.
If you’ve spent your perk points elsewhere you can always select the ‘Reset Points’ option, which allows you to reassign all of your perk points at a small cost.
In addition, at a certain point in the story you will be invited to join a faction and will be given 100,000 Crew Credits (CC) for doing so. You can actually use these CC points to buy Perk Points (which cost 2,000 CC each).
4) Unlocking and Equipment Level 50 Platinum Car Parts
Here is where the grind begins! Having reached Player Level 50, you can now complete against Platinum ‘Ghosts’ on every skill and mission in the game.
If you are successful in beating the platinum time/score you will be awarded a randomly generated Platinum car part of between level 40 and level 50. You will therefore have to keep grinding out missions until you eventually get a level 50 platinum part for each of:
• Exhaust
• E.C.U
• Fuel Injection
• Air System
• Gearbox
• Motorcore
• Tires
• Brakes
• Suspension
• Differential
• Weight Reduction
Without doubt, the best way to approach this is via the Jump Skill and I would recommend using a Performance or a Circuit car. With high speed you will clear almost all Platinum level jumps with ease and, typically, each jump only takes 20 to 30 seconds, so you also get lots of opportunities to try for that elusive level 50 car part.
For Example:
For my Platinum Level 50 Motorcore I did Jump Skill 9 (the Military Base in the Midwest). I ended up having to repeat that jump 14 times, getting a Level 41 part, then a level 44 part, then a level 42 part, then a level 49 part, then another level 44 part etc, etc. until finally getting the level 50 part. With that achieved, I then moved on to the next Jump for the next car part until they were all level 50.
If you find there is a Jump Skill you can’t do, then I would gofor an Escape or a Speed Skill that awards the car part you require and keep replaying that.
Summary
So, if you do all 4 parts above, you will have your very own 1299 car, which will be fantastic for PvP and for going back and acing some of the skill missions.
If anyone has any queries please let me know.

Beating platinum on a jump skill predominantly awards a cosmetic part rather than an upgrade (I don't know if this is an update since you wrote the guide?) By far the best way to get Smart parts is to do the current Summit skills. There is usually at least 1 speed/escape skill which takes around 30 seconds, as long as you win bronze or better, you are guaranteed a smart part car upgrade.

The solution is out dated, wild run expansion added a smart loot system where u only get items slightly better then what u have and jump drops have been nerfed

I have done it via the free car from uplay and doing the skills to max out every performance item to lvl 50. For me, the Jumps was very easy to do.
Note: You need to be Character Lvl 50, to unlock platinum medals. Now you get for each Platinum Medal a Tuning Performance Item, which is between level 40 and 50. You need for each item a level 50 one.
In my case, my car wasn't level 1299 after this. What i needed, is to skill the bonus points for everything my car would benifit from. (5% better Breaks, 5% better Handling and so on)
You can find the Bonus Skills in your HQ (If you see your car, move 2 times to the right.
I never thought, but this improves every car level directly.

Any idea on how to increase the chance of getting a level 50 part? I was retrying skill challenges for nearly an hour tonight and the highest level part I got was 48.
For now my car level is stuck at 1296...

Yes, i feel with you. I needed 3 hours on a single test to get lvl 50. There seems nothing which would improve your chances. Thats why doing it via stunts, because you can complete more in the same time.

Just adding to the other already great guides..
Now with ubisoft being... Well, ubisoft, just grinding jump skills can no longer be done, You can but you get mainly hood parts, color stickers etc etc.
So (And of course it still a bit of a grind, a few hours each car class for me personally because of the randomisation of what you get) I had to look for what was the easiest and best ways of getting platinum with no worries to upgrade your car to 1299.
I realise of course that you can go for "The skills to pay bills" achievement at the same time (Geting 500 golds) but for me, with the car class around 700, was too low, was too frustrating..
So the skills i found to easily grind your way to the top were...
For Perf and Circuit cars - Speed Skill 1 in Detroit (Should have no worries as both are fast enough)
For Street Spec - Escape skill 2 which is in between Chicago and Detroit (Only problem could be is that because its on a highway and theres a slight turn, you just have to try and stay in the middle of the road to get passed, but should get it with ease)
For Raid Spec - Escpae Skill 7 in Midwest just a little underneath Monument rocks (Bit bumpy but easier because you dont have to go completely flat out, just carry enough speed)
For Dirt Spec - Now i couldnt find a particular skill to accomplish this with, so i used the story mission "Running heat"right up in the top corner of the east coast... This mission you can do in easy 30 seconds..
When the mission starts you will see two houses immediately on your right, all you do is pass through them and keep going straight into the woods and trees, the cops will get stuck by the houses, therefore 30 seconds every mission... Plus you do it enough times, you get a good stack of cash too..
So there was how I levelled up all my cars to 1299, of course you only have to do it with one car, but if you plan on doing them all, at least you have an idea of what the easiest ones are.
Hope this guide helps you guys!

In order to obtain the parts and perks needed for this achievement, you will need to have progressed to level 50 (unlocks platinum position wins), and have progressed through the story to the West Coast (hire all of the required team members for their perks).
For help getting to level 50 see:
One of the perks that will make your grind a lot easier is the "Highly Skilled" perk from Vincent. When maxed it will provide you with 15% faster scoring in any skill. That means that you will usually get platinum awards when not even beating the gold ghost. This skill is like a "cheater mode" for most skills. For example, if you would normally need to get past 8 gates/checkpoints to get platinum, with this skill you will obtain platinum when you get past the 7th one.
When you get a platinum position win for any skill/race/mission you will be awarded a random performance part that is better than one you currently have equipped, or some other random visual items, or Bucks (if you don't have many items left to win). So, for example, if you have a level 2 bronze part, you could end up getting level 2 silver, or level 3 bronze or any better version of that part, or a sticker, bumper, paint color, etc.
Therefor the quickest way to start getting level 50 parts is to make sure all your currently equipped parts are already relatively high before you start your grind, in order not to waste time getting a bunch of random low level parts. Try specifically to get gold wins for the level 44/45 parts you need (you may have to purposely try not to get platinum at times with "Highly Skilled" perk), but even bronze or silver level 44/45 parts will provide you with a solid head-start.
Skills that provide level 44/45 parts (all West Coast area):
- Airsystem: Race Line 77 & 101, Slalom 66
- Brakes: Scramble 61, Race Line 89, Slalom 61
- Differential: Speed Skill 106 & 108, Race Line 86, Precision 82
- E.C.U.: Race Line 78 & 82, Slalom 60, Scramble 60
- Exhaust: Precision 81, Race Line 102, Slalom 57
- Fuel Injection: Escape 47, Scramble 64 & 69, Race Line 99
- Gearbox: Precision 90, Scramble 57, Speed Skill 114, Race Line 85
- Motorcore: Speed Skill 98 & 104, Escape 45, Race Line 91
- Suspension: Jump Skill 38, Slalom 54 & 56, Race Line 100
- Tires: Precision 86, Speed Skill 102, Hill Climb 40
- Weight Reduction: Speed Skill 101 & 109, Escape 48, Precision 88
Note that if you get a gold/silver bonus you don't like on a 44/45 part (uh, braking?), you can re-do that same race for a chance at a different bonus on that same gold/silver part. Parts with acceleration and speed bonus will help with your initial grind.
Then, you will want to avoid grinding the jumps that many guides still indicate, as the platinum part odds were severely nerf'd for the jumps in an update a while back.
Once you have mostly lvl 44/45 parts (roughly vehicle level 1000) , and perk points allocated to Highly Skilled (faster skill scoring), Shifting Gears (acceleration), Redline (top speed), Holeshot (nitrous) & Light the Fires (nitrous), you should be able to easily complete Speed Skill #1 or Escape Skill #2 (Detroit) from a standing start and get platinum with Street, Dirt, Performance and Circuit class cars. Sadly, Raid class would require a running start, so you can't simply hit "X" and restart the skill repeatedly. For Raid (and initially for Dirt?), you could do one of the other early skills that you are good at. I was able to get my Raid car most of the way to 1299 while doing "Skills To Pay Bills" (500 gold skills), and then did Race Line (#18?) on dirt roads, Hill climbs (#10?), and off-road Escapes (#10?) to top it off.
Always equip any parts that increase your vehicle level. Often you will get a platinum part that has a part level lower than the gold/silver part you currently have equipped, but it will still be "better" as far as the vehicle stats are concerned. For example, you may get level 37 platinum when you have a level 45 gold equipped, but the increase in vehicle level will confirm it is actually better. So, be sure to equip it, because the random part generator will give you a part that is better than the one you currently have equipped, regardless of what you may already own/have in your garage.
Platinum car parts alone will only get you to vehicle level 1234. The remaining 65 points are obtained via maxing 5 points in the perks points assigned to braking, handling, acceleration, top speed (20 perk points total). The faster scoring and nitrous perks that were beneficial during the parts grind do not affect the vehicle level. But, for a nominal fee (100 Bucks per currently assigned perk), you can reset and re-assign your perks.
Note for Wild Run (DLC) owners: "if you have Wild Run, remember to enter summit events. The three skills for each qualifier seem to have a much higher chance of dropping improved parts out of the smart loot (as opposed to new cosmetic items)." -- Hirsute Dave

when you get lvl 50 you unlock the chance to get platnum items. The way i did it was i did the skill jumps in a circuit car you can get you car to level 1299 only by doing the jump skills you can do it in any class you want but found the circuit to be the easiest
As you already know by now, you need to be lvl 50 for this to even start to be a reality. Yes, the jump skills are the fastest way, but this only goes so far.
^ This seems to be forgotten about when talking about The Modfather achievement. Yes, you can waste hours on Jump Skill 1 to get the parts you need, but you still need to get 500 golds.
That time, instead, you should be getting Platinums on the other skills. I sorted by skill type and used my circuit car on the Slalom, Race Line (unless it was on off-road courses), Jumps, Precision and Speed skills. I may be forgetting one. Scrambles I used my dirt spec car for and at the time of this, is currently just over 1,200.
I have all but two Platinums in the Midwest. Long Jump 1 requires a dragster and a Hill Climb is best with a Monster Truck. Both of which, I don't want to invest in the time for those. I am currently working on the East Coast skills using strictly my 1,200+ dirt car.
After that is to 1,299 or the East Coast is done, I will then start working on my Street car, etc.
Bottom line, don't waste hours on one skill.

In order to reach level 1299 with a car, you will need to apply platinum tuning upgrades, and these are awarded once you reach level 50 by earning platinum medals from story missions and skill games. The easiest way to earn platinum medals is by completing jump skill games in Performance spec cars and Hill Climb skill games in Raid spec cars. To be able to hit level 1299, you need a level 50 tuning upgrade for every part category, therefore once you have a platinum upgrade for all car parts, you will simply have to keep replaying skills until the game gives you a level 50 upgrade for the part you need.
