How to unlock the Coast to Coast achievement in The Crew - Definitive Guide
The faction mission Coast to Coast is located in Los Angeles and is a LVL 50 race that requires you to use a circuit "C" class vehicle. It is "a very long race from the heart of LA on the West Coast to Miami on the East Coast" and takes about 50 minutes to complete in a level 1299 vehicle. The game suggests a minimum vehicle level of 740 (initial "C" kit is 749), and scales to a maximum suggested vehicle level of 1280 (faction mission suggested vehicle levels, and AI opponents are scaled to your vehicle level). The route taken has a lot of windy roads, so a vehicle tuned more towards grip/acceleration will do better than one tuned for top speed.
There are two conditions for this achievement:
- complete the mission objective ("Finish in the top 3");
- be "in a crew" when you finish the race.
You don't have to win the race to "complete" the mission, but one person has to place in the top 3 positions at the end of the race to fulfill the mission objective. Everyone that participated in the mission will get the achievement when the mission is completed, even if the others don't make it across the finish line. But, if the AI takes the top 3 positions, the mission "fails" instantly, and no achievement(s).
You can get the achievement completing the mission solo as long as you have "in crew" status at the end of the mission. The other crew members don't have to participate in the mission with you. If at the end of the mission you are not "in crew", for example you get kicked from the crew, or everyone else leaves the crew (including disconnecting), you won't get the achievement and will have to try over.
At this time, there are a lot of people still going for the "Never Drive Alone" achievement, so it is likely you will be able to complete the mission while maintaining "in crew" status with randoms players. Turn on "Look for Crew" on the in-game phone and wait until you are dropped into a crew, then run the mission solo. If you are lucky (you don't get kicked and at least one person stays in the crew for the duration of the mission), you will get the achievement upon finishing the mission.
Additionally, you can start the mission solo and play until you get towards the end of the race (like around the last checkpoint before the finish line), pause the race (start button) and pull up your friends list (push on right stick) and invite them to your crew. As soon as a friend joins your crew you can un-pause the race and finish in the top 3 to get your achievement. You cannot turn on "Look for Crew" in a mission, and there won't be any randoms in your session once you start the mission. But it allows you to get help from someone who already has the achievement without them having to sit through the entire race.
Warning: when you start the mission with other players (i.e. not solo) you cannot pause the race, and you cannot use the Xbox Guide button. Pressing, or double-tapping the Xbox Guide button will remove you from the race and return you to free-roam without warning or confirmation. You will still be in the crew, but you will have to start the race over again.

This faction mission is located in Los Angeles and is unlocked at level 40. You will need a high level Circuit vehicle, preferably level 1000+ to have a competitive advantage over the A.I. drivers. The race begins in Los Angeles and ends on the other side of the map, in Miami and so the race lasts around 50 minutes. You do not actually need to win or even finish the race, just be in the race whilst everyone else finishes and the achievement will unlock.

Does the crew have to be in the mission? or do they just have to be online in your crew?
