How to unlock the Street Smart achievement in The Crew - Definitive Guide
Introduction
For this achievement you need to earn a Platinum medal while completing a story mission with a Street Car. There are a few pre-requisites that you’ll need to complete before being able to attempt this achievement. They are:
• Reach Player Level 50 – This unlocks the ability to earn platinum medals.
• Buy a high quality Street car.
• Tune a Street car to above 1200
Reaching Player Level 50
Reaching Player Level 50 is very straight forward as you earn XP for everything that you do in the game and, just by following the story missions to the end and attempting some Skills as you go, you’ll comfortably reach level 50.
Buying a quality Street Car
The following are the best street cars in my opinion, and certainly the ones that helped me get the most platinum medals:
• BMW Z4 sDrive35is 2011
• Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34)
• Mini Cooper
However, these are by no means the cars you must use and you may well find yourself with another car that you feel more comfortable with.
Tune a Street car to above level 1200
This requires you to unlock platinum level parts for each part of your car. Please see the guides for the The Modfather achievement for a thorough walkthrough of how to tune-up your car to level 1180 and beyond, all the way up to 1299. You can access the guides here:
Recommended Street Car Missions
With a highly tuned, good quality Street Car you should have no problem getting platinum on either of the following missions, each of which are low level missions that take place in Detroit:
• The Initiation
• The Driving Test
Medals are awarded based upon your score and the biggest influence on your score is how quickly you complete the mission. You also get a small bonus for how much time you spent in 1st place in the race.
For The Initiation, if you can get a completed time of less than 1:38 and stay in 1st place for at least 90% of the race, then you are guaranteed Platinum.

Just a note: if you reach level 50, and have met the requirements for Platinum previously, the achievement unlocks automatically

Nice guide but the only pre-requisite you need to earn this is to be level 50. You don't need a good car and you don't need to tune it to 1200, although I'm sure those things make it easier.
I just popped the achievement by completing the "Driving Test" with my initial Dodge Challenger which at the time was tuned to about 580.

You can start earning platinum medals in story missions once you reach level 50. Story missions are always vehicle spec specific and this is shown on the mission brief whilst the mission icon is selected. Simply pick a mission that you have previously done well on and feel like it you can improve on and aim for the platinum target. Generally, follow and outrun missions types are the easiest to master as they are purely dependent on time.
