How to unlock the Old Dog achievement in The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes - Definitive Guide

In order to get this achievement, balathu must successfully kill the African women during the prologue. balathu also has to be the last one to die in the catacombs. then much later in the game during the ‘survive the assault,’ rachel, eric, and nick have to be alive at this point. When eric saves nick from zombified balathu, you’ll be switched to rachel and have a option to save eric from balathu. save eric and pass the qte. after you save eric, balathu will take a spear from a statue. you must MISS the qte in order to get the achievement. When you do miss, he will throw the spear into rachel, impaling her and killing her. after her death scene is over, you will unlock the achievement.

Thanks for the guide. Just wanted to add that I got the achievement near the end of the game. Got the first kill on the woman in the prologue and the second on Jason when he goes back to save Salim for Semper Fi. After they fight off the vampires, the last QTE is dodging the spear. Failed that and it unlocked.

Balathu is the guy with the spear and the weird beard in the game's prologue. The first spear kill essentially acts as a tutorial, where you'll be given plenty of time to throw a spear at a fleeing woman. Continue the prologue, opt to work together with Kurum, and Balathu should be the second person to die. If he's the first, Kurum will replace him later in the game, voiding the trophy.

The second kill will come near the end of the game. When Nick goes to set the dynamite near the cocoons, have him come back before heading towards the largest stack of cocoons, ensuring that Balathu remains a threat.

During the escape to the elevator, Salim will fall behind. Have Jason go to save him, and after a series of QTEs, Balathu will show up and throw his spear at Jason. Fail the QTE for the trophy.

It is not necessary to play through to the final chapter. The ancient warrior kills Rachel with a spear in the sacrifice hall if the QTE is failed. Before this, Salim needs to shoot at the vampire who attacked Rachel, while ignoring the one that is flying at him. I don’t know how this trophy works, but I managed to get it like this: first, Balatu killed the girl at the very beginning of the game and then died first, leaving Kurum, who subsequently killed Rachel in the middle of the game when she was saving Eric during the first attack Kuruma.

On game version 1.000.005, this trophy cannot be obtained using the methods described above. I completed the game 5 times and never crashed. I solved the problem by deleting the game from the console and reinstalling it from the disk offline without updates. I launched the Semper Fi chapter, let Balat kill Jason, and the coveted trophy finally dropped!
