1. When Nick and Jason retreat with a wounded Merwin, there will be a moment when they give Merwin morphine as Nick, you have to screw up 3th QTE (QTE is a minigame which requiares to press

2. You have to choose "Around" way around as a choice while deciding about which way go. Next you can't screw up the heartbeat mini-games, if you do Demons will take and kill Merwin.
3. Later Jason and Nick still retreat with wounded Merwin, he will please you to leave him but you can not do this otherwise he dies.
Later he will be kidnaped by demons, but take it easy, he will come back. In The Signal, he’ll repair the radio to call for air support, but he ends up getting shot by Dar (Achievement should pop after Nick calls the support)

You don’t have to choose the “around option” is step 2. I chose “through” on my first playthrough and he still survived
