When in the castle, after talking to the cook you will need to make soup. It has to be made in the correct order, which is: potato, potato, carrot, herb, corn, potato, herb, herb.
After this, you are told you need spices. Go back the the servant's quarters, and "use" the cloth to find a box. "Use" the box, then "use" the spices inside to put them into your inventory.
Go back and talk to the cook again to give her the spices, and this will unlock.
