How to unlock the Don of Darkness achievement in The Darkness II - Definitive Guide

Select Don difficulty at the start of the game and finish the game without changing said difficulty.

This game is not particularly hard, and if you did your first run through on normal (I did not) and are doing Don as New Game+ it will be even easier as you will have a good number of abilities and will know the level layouts.

Some general tips:

I believe the three most important abilites are the ammo belt upgrade (since you will be burning ammo fast on Don and there is not much to go around on some levels), the health execution/more health from hearts upgrade, and gun channelling.

Use gun channelling in the large arena fights, as you can kill a number of the heavies very quickly, especially if you get the upgrades for duration/shooting through walls. It is also very useful for a last ditch attempt to not die when overwhelmed. It does, however, gib enemies, so I would not reccomend using it on the minions during boss fights (as you often want to kill them for health hearts).

If/when you get it, the darkling throw is very useful as he will kill _anything_ he hits, even heavily armoured enemies.

If/when you get it, swarm can be very useful on higher-level enemies. It will prevent teleporting enemes from doing so, and will cause shield enemies to drop their shield. It is also useful for crowds of basic enemies, as you can hit two or three low-level enemies, and walk in to get a few easy executions for health/ammo/etc.

If/when you get the black hole upgrade, use them as often as possible in large fights or hold onto one for use when the pressure is on. While it can clear a room on its own, it does take the bodies, so if you need hearts, be aware.

Watch out for the whip enemies, as they will pull your current weapon out of your hands. This can be very frustrating later on in the game when they steal the only weapon with ammo that you have. try to kill them from as far away as possible.

Weaponwise, I found two SMG's to be the most useful. Most enemies carry them (so non-box ammo is usually available) and you can be fairly accurate with them in short bursts. Often you will have several enemies pop up close to you and I found pistols did not offer sufficient damage to be worth the increase in accuracy. Carbine/AK/Striker is good as a backup, but I found the SMG's superior from a damage viewpoint. I did not find shotguns particularly useful even with the double-pump upgrade, but a couple of friends have said they had good results, so try them once or twice to see if they work for you.

I'll update this over the next day or so with more tips from myself or the comments.

When doing this on New Game+ choose 'select chapter' rather than 'from the beginning' as when I did this I was starting it at this difficulty level but with no upgrades, relics or points. I did all the chapters (out of sequence) and when I had completed them all at don level the achievement popped. For me it was just as I was getting into the elevator for the swifty mission as I had done it from there on Don.

If you replay chapters on a lower difficulty, can you still play them again on Don and get this achievement?

Yes. I did my first New Game+ playthrough on Mobster difficulty to get some of the other achievements including do all the chapters on New Game+. I then did it on Don mode as I mention above. When you select a chapter it tells you the highest difficulty you've beaten it on and when they all say don you should get the achievement.

Don difficulty is really easy, just dont rush into the action and shoot out every light that could get you killed.
I first played it on thug difficulty , just to have some fun, then on my new game+ i've put it on Don difficulty and had no problems at all. So don't worry its pretty easy really (it took me maybe about 5hours or less to finish it)

Maxing out the Demon Arm tree for the armor is well worth the effort too. You'll still have issues with those jerks with the massive lamps but as long as you're in darkness you can pretty much just walk through everything thrown at you.

The extra armor or shields worked very well in the second half of the game.

Restaurant on Don was my first death in the entire time I played it :( but after that part I grab car doors for shields to survive. Im currently playing through on New Game+ on Don but taking your time helps.

About this achievement. Do you have to Choose to go to Hell or does the Achievement Pop if you choose to stay with Jenny?

In response to Werey and Arsenic 17, yes you do need to go to hell for the achievements. I did my NG+ run on Don and when I got to the rooftop decision I chose to stay with Jenny. No achievements roll Fortunately after it puts you back to the main menu you can select Continue and it'll reload you back to the rooftop so you can choose to go to hell. Both achievements popped for me at the end of the hell section.

Here is a link to a full walkthrough from a New Game on the hardest setting with full commentary. It's not the most challenging, but this should aid anyone having issue.

This is the maximum difficulty in the game, open from the very beginning. Recommended for a second playthrough using "New Game+". Some tips:
- Eat the hearts of your enemies always
- Save ammo using interactive objects
- Use abilities
- Use car doors as shields
- Destroy light sources before battle

You can't change the difficulty during the game - you won't get a trophy!

Feel free to go on medium (on easy it’s simply not interesting), then with full leveling on the bottom, there were no problems at all, as already written, use your skills more, flies are especially useful.

The prize at first glance seems difficult to still complete The Darkness 2 on Done, but it’s not true the prize is very easy, at least I got it in 10 hours in one breath, I completed it without dying even once! Do you want the same? Then listen to how to do it, first upgrade the entire Jackie skill tree! and start playing, everything will be easy, protect yourself with enemy shields, take a shotgun and aim for the head, it kills you with the first shot! Always keep an eye on Jackie's armor and replenish it with hearts! always look for light sources and try to destroy them before starting the battle! If you find yourself in a meat grinder and there are a lot of enemies around, then use the weapon of darkness skill, this is when you have endless ammo, which was very effective, I used double umps because with two hands and with the skill they are very powerful! I used a swarm of flies on enemies who teleport using the darkness and on enemies with shields, since a swarm of flies makes them distracted and they lose their shield and groan without defenses! After each encounter with enemies, make sure that you have two skills available; if you overlook it, it will be bad in battle! Don’t miss a single enemy body yet; there might be a black hole on it; she saved me more than once in the belly; throw her into the epicenter of the battle so that she can suck in more souls!
