How to unlock the Embraced the Darkness achievement in The Darkness II - Definitive Guide
Just to play through the vendettas campaign buying up everything you can. I beat the end boss and had only one talent left to buy, I thought I was gonna have to play through again to retry but if you go to hit list your talents and essence will be saved for the character you used in the campaign. So I bought my last skill and was done.
It can also be done vice versa. I had most of my essence from the hit list and when I went to go to Vendettas after the first mission i had enough to buy all of my talents, and got my cheevo. Its not really a solution I guess, but for anyone who needs to know haha you can do it like that.

And just as a helpful clarification: you can also earn this in the Hit List campaigns. In other words, you don't have to unlock this in Vendetta to get the achievement. Also, playing as a different character does not remove all of the essence from any other character you might play with. I played through Vendetta with Shoshanna, then hurried through the first mission of that mode with the other 3 characters for their quick achievements. I thought I screwed myself out of all the essence I collected with Shoshanna, but I was thankfully very wrong. Just a helpful FYI.

If you have been playing with multiple people and sharing your soul essence with other characters there is a good place to farm some.
If you play the Hit List mission called "The Heist" (the one that takes place in the giant bank) right at the very end of the level the game will infinitely spawn those really annoying teleporting guys - however, as annoying as they may be if you kill them using your darkness weapon and them destroy their hearts you will net 40-50 essence per kill. I suggest playing on the easiest difficulty just because they can be a pain if they overrun you.
Make sure not to run to the get away van until you have enough essence or this will end the mission. (or to play it safe end your mission to save progress after you've made a few kills and farmed a bit of essence.)
You can also upgrade your skills here too where the brotherhood guys spawn because it is where you start off and there is a skill upgrade thing here too! Also no need to worry about ammo as each of the enemies will drop a "Sawed-off" which kill them in pretty much 3 shots which is always handy!

The best sollution is this:
Play through hit list missions with every single character to unlock their achievements (with Shoshanna, Inugami, Jimmy and JP Dumond).
Pick your favourite character( in my case, that was Shoshanna, since her shotgun is really powerful )
After playing through most Hitlist missions (as I mentioned above, you use three missions with a random character, the remaining part of the hitlist missions, pick one character)
Your points and skill tree go over into the Vendetta Campaign, which let you have more than enough points to buy skills with.
Also: If you play offline, boost as much as possible with execution moves (couple of shots, LB) They rack up 30 points each.

You can get this really quickly, even on easy level. Start a vendetta campaign as Shoshanna, and kill everyone using the night of the shade shotgun, harvesting every heart thereafter. This will get you 25 essence in total per kill, more against the harder enemies. On thug you can literally shoot an enemy, run to him, harvest the heart (so it keeps your health full), shoot the next guy, and rinse and repeat. For harder guys hold the left trigger down for a stronger shot, and even after you have harvested the heart you shotgun will have recharged.
From the perk tree, improve the shotgun power and invulnerability for a short while after harvesting hearts to make you run through even easier. I had enough essence to unlock the acheievement after completing the bank level.

Most of you will have to replay the campaign more than once, but not too many, the development branches of these four are naturally weaker than Jackie's.

When playing Vendetta, use only one character; one complete playthrough on any difficulty will be enough to acquire all abilities.

If you use only 1 character, then by the middle of the Vendetta campaign the trophy is yours.
