The easiest way to get this is to hold down on the dpad as you progress through the game. This ensures you eat the majority of plants you come across. It also keeps you well fed. It also also is uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time and becomes almost necessary to play the game unless you want to stop frequently to eat up.
