In general if you throw the red ball and immediately move to the corner you will be safe. This is really true for the Casino Cat, the Caterpillar, and Fat Cat. Also if you are hit by your own projectile, you are invincible while you are incapacitated. This can be useful for the green grouper who has a ton of projectiles. If you time your strike right you can get two hits on the giant robot and the green grouper.
