How to unlock the Dragonrider achievement in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition - Definitive Guide

To be able to tame and ride dragons you will need the Bend Will shout and you will need all 3 words of this shout.

To get this shout you will have to travel to Solstheim. After progressing though the main quest there you will learn the 1st word during the quest Cleansing the Stones and you will able to cleanse the All-Maker Stones located throughout the island by shouting at them.

The 2nd word is learned from Hermaeus Mora at the end of The Path of Knowledge. It allows you to force other NPCs and creatures to become temporary allies.

The 3rd word and last word is taught to you by Hermaeus Mora at the end of The Gardener of Men quest ,this will allow you to temporarily tame and ride dragons.

Now while in game use cn_B go to Magic and then down to Shouts ,find the Bend will and be sure all 3 words are unlocked by using a dragon soul on them and click cn_RT to have it as your active shout.

Now we will need to find 5 different dragons as it cannot be the same and use cn_RB on the dragon you will find, the dragon will land near you and wait a few seconds only so be sure to get close to him and cn_A to ride him. Do this 5 times on different dragons and the achievement should pop. Also if you want to get off the dragon click cn_A one time only, if you tap cn_A again it will cancel the landing.

It's worth noting that the dragon you tame (Sahrotaar) while getting the last word counts toward the 5 tamings you need for the chevo.

Does anyone know if this can be on the main map? Or does it have to be in the DLC Map?

You'll need all three words of the Bend Will shout to be able to tame dragons, but the good news is that you'll obtain them all as part of Dragonborn's main questline. Once you have them, you can fast travel around Skyrim to the various dragon locations on your map and simply use it 5 times.

To tame a dragon, use the full shout on it when it gets close. It will land nearby, and if you approach it you'll be prompted to press A to mount it. Do this and enjoy the view a bit, then press A again to have the dragon land so you can move on to the next one.

Note: This must be done on 5 different dragons! It doesn't count towards the achievement if you wait for the same dragon to become hostile again and then tame it again. (Thanks ponypo2001 for reminding me.)

For this achievement, you must first learn and unlock the Bend Will dragon shout. Use the commands below:

  • player.teachword 040179D9
  • player.teachword 040179DA
  • player.teachword 040179DB
  • player.modav dragonsouls 3
Go into your magic menu and apply the dragon souls to all three words in the Bend Will shout and equip it. Then use "player.placeatme 00F80FA" to spawn a dragon. Use your shout (be sure to hold the button to fully power it) on the dragon to tame it (may take a few tries) and once it lands, go up and interact to ride it. Land the dragon, then warp to a new location and repeat this step four more times with newly spawned dragons.

You secretly move to the dragon icon on the map and when it starts to take off, you yell at it with all your might with a fully pumped “Submission of Will” and fly a little, land on the next dragon icon. To speed up the receiving process - video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FiBfWJVQZ8.

We find any dragon, use a shout, sit on it, immediately land, wait 2 hours, the dragon becomes aggressive again, repeat the procedure 5 times.

There is no need to sneak up on anyone or anywhere. When you meet a dragon, you attack it with a full cry of submission of will. Sit on it and you can land immediately. So 5 times.

Contrary to one of the tips above, it works on any dragons, not just legendary ones

Using the same dragon won’t work (I used it more than 20 times and already thought that the trophy was glitchy). In addition, sometimes shouting at the dragon does not work, even if you reboot 100 times. It needs to be exactly 5 different dragons (or rather 4, since the plot dragon also counts). Therefore, we take turns jumping on different icons with dragons until we receive the trophy.

There is no need to sneak around, you can even yell at them in flight. They will land without any problems. The problem was that I was trying to get a trophy on all the dragons in a row. But “cheap” dragons don’t work. You only need ancient or legendary ones (if you go 100%, like me, you will still need to level up to level 78 for these same legendary dragons to appear). So, move around the map between the dragon icons. Yell and ride. It is not necessary to take the trophy right away; it is possible and preferable between missions. Let everything calm down and day follows night.
