How to unlock the The Eye of Magnus achievement in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition - Definitive Guide

This achievement is unlocked for completing the final quest from the Mages Guild. There are surprisingly few quests for the guild.

The quest prior to this involves travelling to Labrynthian to retrieve the Staff of Magnus. Here you follow in the footsteps of Savos Avren and other initiates and this reveals how the eye of magnus came to be at Winterhold and how the town was destroyed.

Once the staff is retreived head back to Winterhold for a final showdown with Ancano.

Equip the Staff of Magnus and shoot constantly at the Eye of Magnus. Once the eye is broken kill Ancano.

The quest ends with you been proclaimed Archmage of the Guild and the achievement unlocks

I'm amazed that this is 30gs and Revealing The Unseen is 10gs, because this is a load quicker & less hassle - as long as you can defeat Ancano (a lot easier at higher levels), then this took about 20 minutes while Revealing took me about 2 hours with the size of the dungeon & number of enemies...

it won't unlock, I've reloaded a save and done it multiple times
edit: finally got it to unlock, all I did was drag the fight out for longer, kept the staff in my hand and killed him with magic. What I was doing before was switching to two-handed weapon and killing him instantly. So it was either taking longer to kill him or keeping the staff equipped that unlocked the achievement in the end

I had the same problem that this just would not unlock for me. I'd gone back to a quicksave from before I enter the college and replayed the final battle quite a few times using various tips on here and other sites and no joy. It did finally unlock when I manually exited the game and rebooted my XSX. Could be coincidence but it popped the next time I did the battle after loading the game from fresh i.e. not Quick Resume. If you're having the same problem then good luck to you.

This is the last(8th) quest for the College of Winterhold.

This quest is actually quite short and easy. Its just one "boss" fight and shouldn't take you anymore than 5 mins. To be honest i didn't even kill him the magical anomalies did. Its that easy!
All you have to do is use the Staff of Magnus on the Eye of Magnus. This will make it 'break up' and Arcano will become vulnerable. This is your chance to do some damage to him, or leave him to the anomalies and Tolfdir. Once the Eye has reformed, Ancano will go back and start doing his thing again. Just Rinse and Repeat till hes dead.

*Posible Spoilers*
The prerequisite quest for this is the staff of magnus. Where you have to travel through the Labyrinthian. Here you will encounter Trolls, Wisps, Skeletons and Wizards.

There are 2 "Boss" fights in this level. The first being a Skeleton Dragon surrounded by about 8 Skeleton warriors, mages and archers. Save before using the lever to open a gate (which drops again after about 5 seconds)
If you have trouble with this boss (he had me for his dinner), reload your save from before you entered through the gate. Equip your unrelenting force shout and shout through the gate. This should bring the skeletons towards you. They can't attack you through the gate and you cant attack them with normal spells and weapons. You can however keep using your unrelenting force shout on them. This may take 5 mins to wipe them out because of the cooldown time. The skeleton mages didn't seem to be affected by this for me. So what i did for them was open the gate walk up to it and cast spells at them. As long as you dont enter the room the dragon skeleton will not rise. This allows you to focus on the dragon skeleton, making this fight alot easier. The dragon uses Ice attacks so counter him with fire(if your using magic). Try and keep away from his front because he can pick you up in his mouth and insta' kill you.

The Second boss fight is at the end of the dungeon. Morokei is, i beleive, a dragon priest and so he is fairly strong. Use your bow to take out the Wizard Thralls first. Then I recomend using ranged weapons or spells to take Morokei on. Run up the stairs where the Wizard Thrall was and he shouldn't follow you, or attack you. From here use your bow to take him out. When hes dead search his body for the Staff of Magnus and a awesome mask.

Enjoy the quest and i hope i helped :D

This achievement will appear after completing the last quest of the Winterhold guild, its problem is that it does not open immediately, here on the site it was displayed immediately, but it arrived only two days later. In any case, save before the Psijics take the Eye.

According to the quest itself - shoot at the eye with a staff when it is open, one or two shots are enough, you should not waste time on anomalies, unless you have run out of energy in the staff, then you can kill a couple of flying reptiles and collect soul stones from them . Kill Akano as soon as the window closes, no need to hit him with your staff, he has a lot of mana and in my opinion this is pointless. I simply used Yol's fire scream, which not only took off half his HP, but also knocked him down. While he was getting up, he struck a couple of times with a blade that was burning and, in addition, poisoned with powerful poison. Plus, he summoned Dremora at the beginning of the battle, which distracted the Anomalies.

If you have a companion, leave him outside the college, because he will not be able to help you in battle, he will be paralyzed for the entire time and if the battle drags on, he will be killed, and it may also happen that when Akano dies, the companion will wake up and start fighting with anomalies, while hitting the other two friendly magicians with a bow or magic. For me, they started fighting among themselves, and I had to start all over again.
