How to unlock the Wanted achievement in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition - Definitive Guide

You can get this achievement very early in the game. When you go to Whiterun to talk to the Jarl, there is a guard that comes up to you when you are walking up to the doors. Make sure you have a lockpick.

1.) Save your game.
2.) Pickpocket the guard (he will catch you) and present some dialog options.
3.) Choose the option that you surrender and you wake up in a jail cell.
4.) Pick the lock in the grate on the ground and make your way to a ladder.
5.) Wait for the game to load the next area (guard barracks I think) and the achievement should pop.
6.) Reload your save from Step 1 and continue the mission.

Same as the guide but you can also do this doing the dark brotherhood questline closer to the end. You'll more or less be forced to chat to a couple guards, the prison is a little harder to get out of but just sprint to the end and then reload an earlier save.

I just want to add, if you are struggling with picking the lock (as I believe you only get given one when you spawn in the prison) it might be worth playing through the thieves guild quest line. Before the final mission (darkness returns) you will be in possession of a skeleton key, which is basically a lock pick that wont snap. This is what i used to escape the prison cell, as it meant i could just brute force the lock open without reloading the save.

Another option if you are struggling with the lock is to prepare - I just dropped 30 picklocks on the ground in the cell before arresting. It is easy in Solstheim as there is only one cell.

Tip before we start (Save your game before you do anything)

Alright, first thing is first go to WhiteRun and find a guard hit him and then hold X to sheath your weapon. Once you sheath your weapon a dialogue will come up and the option you want to choose is submit to jail or something along those lines

Now that you are in jail and have loaded in find a trapdoor on the floor near a body, it will have a novice lock on it but is far from hard and should not give you much issue. Once the trap door is open jump down and work your way through the tunnels until you come to a door, the door will be expert but take the stairs to the right of it and circle around and go through the tunnel above it and you can drop down behind it. Keep working your way through and you will find a wood ladder which will allow to enter into a guards barracks. Once you enter the achievement should pop but if it does not exit the building

This is the easiest way possible to get the achievement.

- Simply go to Solitude and commit a crime, quickest way is to pickpocket someone and get caught then ask to go to jail.

- At the back of your jail cell there is some loose rubble that can be activated, doing so will create a passage that’ll allow you to escape and gain your achievement.

We make a game save in Whiterun, put all the stolen items and gold, or even everything, into some empty chest/barrel (the stolen items will not be given back to you; the rest can be picked up at a designated place after escaping/liberation), go and commit a public theft, upon arrest we agree to imprisonment. We get into the cell. We make another save because... We only have one master key - in case we break it. We don’t lie down on the bed, otherwise we’ll be released on parole for good behavior and you won’t get a trophy. With a master key we open not the front door (adept), but the cellar (novice). We follow the labyrinth. As soon as you leave the barracks, the trophy is yours. Either load the save and continue as if nothing happened, or go out to Whiterun, they will detain you again - you are a fugitive, - again you agree to imprisonment, and spend the night on a bunk in the cell, thus delaying from bell to bell, you are freed and then return to get your things to a designated place, having gained some experience.

In the maze you will come across another door that needs to be broken open. Also make a save in front of it. The correct position of the master key each time you load is random

it's simple. We kill NPCs in the city. The guards run up to us. Select the “surrender” option. We are sent to prison. Now we need to run out of this location, and then the prize will be counted.
