I did all of these once reaching riverwood after finishing the very first quest and escaping Helgan. Don't think it's necessary though.

Completing the Quest "Awakening" in the Dawnguard portion of the game will net you this achievement.
It is Questline related and cannot be missed

"We heard they are reviving the Dawnguard... vampire hunters!" -Guards in whiterun
They talk about it all the time so it's extremely easy to find them. If they don't mention it just go to one and spam "A" till you eventually get it

-This achievement is gained by completing the quest "Awakening" which is part of the "Dawnguard" portion/questline of the game.

-You can start these quests whenever but some people recommend waiting until at least level 20.

-Put the game on Novice difficulty if you are trying to get this done as quickly as possible

-You should also note that starting this questline will trigger random Vampire attacks in towns which can kill some NPCs. This shouldn't be much of a problem, but for this reason I like to leave Dawnguard until near the end of my playthroughs.

-I included some videos showing the quest for those who find that helpful. Or you can read the quick walkthrough I've written and use the links I've included to cross reference.

-Completing this quest doesn't require you to choose a side yet. Note that some of the other achievements in Dawnguard are missable and will require 2 playthroughs/save states.

Brief Walkthrough/Steps-
1. You start the quest by speaking to Isran and telling him you want to join the Dawnguard. He should be inside of the building at Fort Dawnguard, you can get there by going south and then east of Riften, although the entrance is a bit tricky to find, more information below. You may be able to get a map marker by talking to a guard about the reformation of the Dawnguard (particularly in Riften) or an Orc may approach you randomly and try to recruit you at any time during your playthrough.

2. You can pinpoint the location of Fort Dawnguard by checking this map, you want to go to the X, not the Fort marker on your map. There is a cave which leads to this area, so don't go looking for a castle.

3. Start and finish the quest, it is very straightforward. There is a simple puzzle that may stump you, look at a video if it does
