For this achievement you will have to either travel to Arkngthamz or find a book in Fort Dawnguard called The Aetherium Wars read it and also take it.

When you enter inside Arkngthamz a ghost voice will keep telling you to turn back , you just keep going and soon you will meet Katria ,accept her offer to help and then the quest will begin Lost to the Ages. Not far from where you meet Katria you will find her body and you can search her to get Katria's Journal.

You will get to a point when Katria will say that this is where she had her fall and that her bow is at the big log there , when this happens do go and get the bow Zephyr as you will need it if you do not have a bow on you.

You will get to a place where the Tonal Lock will be,basically you will need to arrow hit the blue marks in a correct order ,aw and don't worry about arrows as there are plenty on the floor near the dead skeleton you can just pick some up or if your a mage you can just fireball them as that works also.

Now if you check the Katria's Journal you can find the number 1 is the bottom left , the 2 is bottom right and the rest are trial and error but here i will list them anyway.
1.Bottom left
2.Bottom right
3.Top left
4.Top right
5.Middle

Go inside and get your 1st piece of Aetherium Shard (1/4).

Now can exit this place and travel to Raldbthar.

Here are some bandits and after those will be falmers. You will get to a point where you will have to remove human parts from the mechanism , just have in mind that one is underwater.
Soon after you get the 2nd piece of Aetherium (2/4).

Next location is near Mzulft called Dwarven Storeroom North of Riften.

After you lockpick the Expert on the Door the Aetherium shard is behind it (3/4).

The last piece is at a small shrine after crossing the Deep Folk Crossing located north-east of Markarth(4/4).

Now we going to the Forge and that's in the Ruins of Bthalft.

Here when you do get inside you will need to either use a bow again on the 2 blue mechanism or just fireball them to open the door.

Defeat the guardians and then you can craft 1 item out of 3 :

Aetherial Crown : 2 Flawless Sapphire
2 Dwarven Metal Ingot
2 Gold Ingot
1 Aetherium Crest

Aetherial Shield : 4 Dwarven Metal Ingot
2 Regined Malachite
1 Aetherium Crest
External image

Aetherial Staff : 2 Dwarven Metal Ingot
2 Ebony Ingot
1 Gold Ingot
1 Aetherium Crest

Now while you are looking at the forge turn right and go to the table , there's a chest on the table and inside are all the materials you need.

Take them all and craft what you will like , after that you talk to the ghost and achievement pops.

Good luck and enjoy Skyrim on the One smile.

EDIT: Skuller 101 mentioned that ''if you enter Mzulft or Raldbthar before accepting this quest the quest will glitch and not start''

EDIT: Not sure why the negative so please do leave a comment if something is missing and ill adjust the guide thanks!.

Great guide! On a side note, if you enter Mzulft or Raldbthar before accepting this quest the quest will glitch and not start

The book can be found at other places, can't remember where I found one, but it was way before I had access to fort dawnguard

Yes i believe there are a few more places to find the book , like in The Arcanaeum of the College of Winterhold or Bards College in Solitude, around the corner from the entrance, on a bookshelf.

You should replace the image for the piece by Deep Folk Crossing. There is no distinguishing markers on your map (i.e. major cities). Markarth is just south of Deep Folk Crossing and would have made a 5 minute matching my map to yours only a few seconds if I could have seen that in your image.

I came to comment that this quest is glitchy as hell but apparently I'm not the only person to suffer. I have to make a new character just for this 1 achievement.

Well in the same boat as above. Forcing you to go to Mzulft for other quests and glitching this one is a dick move. Hoping I can play a new character on the easiest difficulty and get this immediately

I'll have to make another run of Skyrim since this achievement is bugged; tried reading the book, going for a shard before going Arkngthamz, nothing. Did a quick "modded" run and, for what I got, the misc objective appeared only before starting the "dawnguard" misc objective, but I could be wrong.

I'm at the forth one, and I can't find the last gear so I can press the button. It's the one on the left facing the way I came in.

EDIT: Found it under water.

EDIT 2: Got the achievement, thanks!

Completed as per guide, no achievement. How does a game as old as this still have glitches like this. Very frustrating after a long quest.

If you already found some of the crystal pieces, the quest potentially won't start properly. If you got rid of them, you may be out of luck. You will know it's messed up if the journal isn't on her body and you don't get an actual quest from speaking to her ghost. I had kept the shards I had found in my storage in my house. The quest triggered only after I loaded an old save prior to speaking to her, went and dropped them on the ground in my house and then went to Arkngthamz. I guess the quest can't trigger if it thinks you can't pick up the shards anymore. Like, it's some kind of poorly implemented failsafe.

Side quest. To get it you need to discover the Dwemer ruins of Arkntamz. As soon as this place is discovered on the map, the task “Explore the ruins of Arkntamz” will appear in the “Miscellaneous” section. You can also find out the location of the ruins on the map by reading the book “Wars for Etherium”. You can find it on Farengar’s bookshelves in Dragonsreach, maybe somewhere else, I don’t know. Inside the ruins, you will meet the ghost of Katria and after the conversation the quest lost in the centuries will start.

Just find the location in the picture and go there. After some time, a ghost will speak inside and give a task
