How to unlock the Jobsworth achievement in The Escapists - Definitive Guide

Hit quota at least once across all job roles. There are a total of 10 jobs and you can get this after you unlock the first two prisons. The jobs are very similar in what you need to do. I’ll explain exactly how to get a job, change jobs and complete each one as well as give a few other tips. The jobs are Metal Shop, Laundry, Janitor, Mail Room, Cook, Gardening, Unloading, Wood Shop, Librarian and Sewing.

easiest way to get a job that someone already has: just beat them up and be sure they can't meet the job quota during work hours. they will get fired, leaving a vacancy for you to apply.

Yea giving them a weapon and having them follow you worked a lot better, especially since the last one I needed was the kitchen. They boot it there right as the bell rings.

i didn't have that much trouble with it. picked up 4 letters and went looking for the recipients. if i happened to run into one of them really close to the mail room, i just grabbed another letter so i was always carrying 4. it does seem like it could be troublesome, if you get unlucky and never run into the needed inmates. having speed maxed out also would make it easier. trying to cycle through letters to get them all for one person seems a bit unnecessary though.

Dunno if anyone else was having the same problem as me but I did have an issue where some of the achievement's weren't tracking correctly, but when I exited the game and reentered it made them all jump up. Figured I'd put this here in case anyone else had that issue.
Good guide +1

Dunno if this is a good idea for being able to get the job, but when I caused a lockdown during Work the whole board would become vacant

One more tip for magazines for the librarian job: if you don't get the ones for the 3 people you can trade with, you can just flush them and get more from the shelf. Took me far too many reloads before I thought to try it.

You don't need to quit your job to take another also, it just has to be vacant. You can also quit your job if you want by by going to the board and going to your job

If anyone struggling in mailman job, just loot all cellmate cells and steal all weapons u can find, and give them to inmates to have them be ur friends...and let them follow u, at least 2 or 3 of them....focus on the ppl who are not having jobs, see the job board and make friends whoever is NOT on there.
then on lunch time period let them follow u to the mailroom and just keep spamming letters and giving it to the correct person 80% u will recieve a letter for one of those 2-3 guys,,i finished it in less than 1 min this way

The mailman job was a train wreck for me. I don't know if it was because my game-save had too many junk items laying down, but the letters I would stockpile on the ground, would lose their information. Instead of Letter to " Person X ", it would just revert to Letter . This definetly seems to happen if you quit and reload a save. Once reloaded, the game lost track of who the letters went to, so it seems at least for delivering mail, it needs to be done in one playthrough, or with them in your inventory constantly.

I finally stockpiled 4 letters to one person, and 2 to another on the ground, and finished off the mail carrier job. By then, my game save was so messed up ( with people hating me ), that I just started new. That job quota for mail is waaaaay to complicated for normal play, and should have been left out of the game, or the quota being 2 letters maybe. Its nigh impossible to actually hold that job down in the game.

There are three methods to get any job that I found.

1st Method:
Check the "Job Board" and find the name of the prisoner who has the job you want. Then on work day beat up the prisoner. I hid him in a random cell and then when he woke up, I beat him up again. He couldn't meet his quota so he lost his job. The work day finished and the job was vacant.

2nd Method:
Check the "Job Board" and find the name of the prisoner who has the job you want. Make him your minion by giving him items and money. Then on the work day waste his time so he can't meet his quota.

3rd Method:
Beat up 2 guards on the work day. Then all jobs are vacant since all prisoners couldn't meet their quota.

Job List:
Metal Shop, Laundry, Janitor, Mail Room, Cook, Gardening, Unloading, Wood Shop, Librarian, and Sewing.

Good luck on meeting your quota for every job!

How to get any job you want:

Get 100 rage at the job period by beating up 2 guards. You can then claim any job you want because they all fail their quota.

You can get the man on the run achievement if you hit 0 rage which I also made a guide for.

In total there are 10 different jobs in which you can have throughout the prisons in the game. The earliest you can unlock this trophy is in the second prison. Jobs serve as a form of income, earning you money as well as giving you access to certain items that can be used to craft. You are allocated two in-game hours for your job at each prison and each requires you to reach a quota within that time period, otherwise you will be fired and lose the job. The majority of jobs are very straightforward and you can reach the quota within 30 in game minutes. You can see your progress towards the required quota in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Once the yellow bar is full then you will have reached your quota for the day.

In the first two prisons you will automatically be given a job and there will be a further 8 jobs (4 in each prison) that you will need to perform. In order to change jobs you must get the inmate fired who currently holds the job you want. To do this you can consistently beat them up just before the job is scheduled to begin (e.g. 14:00 in the first prison) which will make them miss the job and get them fired. You will then need to apply for that job once they are fired. You can view which jobs are available and which inmates currently hold which jobs by viewing the job board within the prison. If you fail to reach the quote for a job, you will need to reapply for it at the job board. Note that you can only have one job at any given time.

See the below for a list of all 10 jobs in the game and the requirements to reach the quota for each one:
  • Laundry - Default in first prison
Take dirty washing from the bench on the left put it into the washing machines withdraw the clean washing and place on the opposite bench. Do this 6 times and you will meet your quota.
  • Kitchen - Take frozen food out of the freezer and place in the two ovens. Once cooked remove from the oven and place on the food trays. Do this 6 times and you will reach your quota.
  • Metal Shop - Remove metal from the scrap bin and place in the machines to make license plates. Once they have been made, remove them and place them in the storage bin. Do this 6 times and you will reach your quota.
  • Janitor - Default in third prison but can also be completed in the first prison.
Pick up the mop, broom and bleach from the cupboard and then walk around the prison and find the brown spill marks on the ground. Equip the mop and press to clean the stain. Do this 6 times to reach your quota.
  • Mailman - Remove letters from the pigeon holes and then deliver them to the correct inmate in the prison. This is probably the hardest of the jobs in the game as you need to locate the inmate to deliver them their letter. There is a small screen in the bottom right hand corner of the screen which shows the location of the inmate but you will need to be familiar with the layout in order to locate them. Deliver 6 letters to reach your quota.
  • Wood Shop - Collect pieces of wood from the storage box and then enter the crafting menu. You will need to craft a chair which requires 3 x pices of wood. Once you have created a chair deposit it into the the storage box. Do this 6 times to reach quota.
  • Librarian - Similar to the Mailman job in the first prison, you will need to deliver books/ magazines from the library to certain inmates in the prison. Do this 6 times to reach your quota.
  • Gardening - Default in second prison
Pick up the Rake, Hoe and Trowel from the desk. You will need to walk around the outside areas of the prison and remove weeds by pressing on them with one of the tools. Remove 12 weeds to reach your quota.
  • Outfit Making - You will need to pick up thread and needle and cloth from the bin and then enter the crafting menu and make random items of clothing. Once made, deposit them into the storage bin. Do this 6 times to reach your quota.
  • Unloading - Remove boxes from the lorry and place in the correct coloured bins (red, blue or green). Do this a total of 6 times to reach your quota.
