How to unlock the You Asked For It achievement in The Evil Within - Definitive Guide

Some might be wondering what exactly the difference is between the Survival game mode and the "AKUMU" difficulty. I was streaming and I had this question so it occurred to me that this might not be obvious to some.

As per the name this roughly translates to "worst nightmare" you die in 1-hit from ALMOST everything. I'll get into that in one second. There are more enemies, more bear traps then you can count (mostly throughout boss fight areas, so look down), and everything is so fast you'll most likely need to change your pants multiple times and take some chill-pills after wiping the spittle from your screen. All enemies are also hyper-aware meaning that sneaking from anything less then 10 meters away their heads snap back so fast that they die from whiplash (no they don't really die... -_-) Their fields of vision are wider and their range of vision is a football fields. NOW the thing you DO live from is 1 animation. If your partner is around and he's not killing himself if you do get grabbed by an enemy with no weapon in hand and they throw you down to the ground you'll lose almost all your health but you will still be on the ground about to be stomped to death, if your partner saves you before the killing blow then you'll get back up with a small amount of health left, but if he doesn't you will still die when your head is stomped on.

This goes without saying here but medkits and syringes are useless, you can use them if you want but unless you live from the one instance that you can live from then there's no use for them.

I'm doing this with no upgrades and currently I'm on chapter 11 so I know that if you are using upgrades that this should be easier for you than it is/was for me. If I have a suggestion for you it would be to upgrade sprint time by a few seconds because it's either run or die in AKUMU.

EDIT: I did complete the game without upgrading. Chapter 6 (burning building) 10 (lots of bosses in a row) and 11 (door opening and closing multiple times releasing waves of enemies followed by the ride in the rail trolley) are the hardest three chapters. You CAN use keys to help yourself in this difficulty as well.

Good luck and try not to punch your walls.

Do you think its possible to do this achievement together with "It Is What It Is" Achievement?

Or upgrades is necessary?

I'm not looking forward to Akumu since I'm still trying to get through Nightmare. The hit detection is ridiculous on the higher difficulties. Half my shots are dead on and they inexplicably don't connect!

You say "no upgrades" but what does that mean? Can you get upgrades on say normal difficulty and then still have those upgrades on a higher difficulty?

I confirm it's possible to beat the game without upgrades. Nonetheless I don't recommend it, since the game becomes unnecessarily harder to beat and you will get frustrated most of the time. Besides, unless Bethesda chooses to add it, there is no achievement on beating the game on AKUMU without upgrades.

I don't understand why anyone would want to try AKUMU first time without upgrades. Just do it on your speedrun where you don't really have time for upgrading stuff anyway. Also it would add an extra 5-10 hours going through the game on AKUMU without upgrading because of more deaths etc. So it makes sense not to in every way,

@ratpoizen For the challenge, Because they want to cut down on the number of runs they have to do the game, there are multiple reasons to and I've proven that it's physically possible to do, never said it was easy.

To add for anyone having issues with this... There is a great speed run walk through in the walk through section that makes Akuma very easy. It shows you what fights can be skiped, easy to get to gel'so and keys. Combined with saving after opening each locker when you get good items makes this much smoother to get. I gave up on this chevo long time ago until I found speed unsure on it. Very manageable

@DutchOwningJ It's been a while but I still remember that it took me close to 100 tries to get this part done. Just be patient with yourself and try to memorize the spawning positions of the enemies and use the explosive barrels as a last-resort type trump card (make sure you're not too close though as they will kill you). Also keep in mind that the event is time based so you don't actually have to kill all the enemies, the 2nd door I was just running around and using freeze bolts and killing with barrels and guns when space was becoming tight. Grouping enemies around barrels also helps for a multi kill with them.

Beat chapter 6 last night on akuma after probably 100 attempts. I did it on the 360 years ago so I knew I could do it. Now I feel as strong as a damn mountain. My advice in house at start is upstairs focus on shotgun match multi combos to save ammo. Downstairs focus on getting rid of barrels 1st and then just use flash bolts and just let them come out of the stun and fire off another when they all charge you. Once you get 4 enemies stunned no more will drop in so try to keep those 4 alive, but stunned. Electricity is good aswel. If you run low on bolts switch back to shotgun and hope for the best. If you realise you don't have enough bolts (at least 3-4 flash and 9-12 shotgun and 5-8 matches) by the house battle just restart the chapter or back track and use gel on flash primarily with scrap and ammo capacity for it and shotgun damage and matches of course.

First step: beat the game on SURVIVAL, don't play on Casual on your first run, it's a waste of time. And don't play Nightmare, it's also a waste of time if you're planning on beating the game on AKUMU.

Recently I finished this mode (no upgrades, using almost all the keys I found on the way) and here are a few tips to complete it:

1- You can get stealth kills, actually, they aren't that hard to perform. If you have been doing it the way the game recomends you to do it, then you will not find any problem with it (always be behind your enemies, crawling, with your light off). The only difference with other difficulties is that enemies detection field is a little bit more wider and realistic.

2- Taking into consideration the previous point I really encourage going for stealth kills whenever you can. It can take longer to do but in the long run it will save lots of ammunitions that you will need for enemies that are impossible to kill stealthily. And even for those kind of enemies there are "low-cost" tactics to kill them: exploding traps, burning them with your matches or going for hit-n-run (and shoot) tactics. Make good use of the enviroment, it might be hostile for you, but it can be hostile for your enemies if you play well your cards ;)

3- Be careful when getting close to enemies lying on the floor, they have the annoying tendency to jump with an attack, not mentioning that they recover faster than in Survival.

4- Be careful with proximity traps, they're waaaaay harder to deactivate in AKUMU mode. If you are close to a save room or you're at the beginning of a checkpoint, you can try to deactivate it and get its components for your crossbow. In case you aren't close to a checkpoint (and had gone through a hard section) I don't advise trying to deactivate them, wait for a checkpoint to give it a try.

5- There are more traps than in Survival, but it also means more pieces for bolts, which is good news.

6- In this mode checkpoints works a little bit different, in some cases they play at your advantage and other times... well, you will see it.

7- Make good use of your crossbow bolts. Don't create new ones unless you have none and need a specific one for a crowd or a boss. If possible, try to get new bolts from the enviroment or the lockers in the save room.

8- Lightning bolts are great for crowds, freeze are good to slow down bosses and flash are a good option when you need to run away from crowds of enemies (or getting a free stealth kill).

9- In case you don't mind expending a little bit of extra money (real) I would recommend "The Fighting Chance pack" DLC, for the incendiary bolts, since they are actually the best bolts for crowd-control (better say, crowd-annihilation). The double-barrel is also included in this DLC and is a very good weapon to start with (until you upgrade the shotgun you find at chapter 3).

10- Although I completed the game without upgrades, I really recommend you to USE ALL THE GEL YOU CAN and upgrade your stamina, critical hits and stock. If it weren't because I wanted to skip one full playthrough on getting the "It Is What It Is" I would have upgraded right at the start. Don't upgrade anything related to your health and syringes, it's completely useless.

TA user 'Sepharim17' wrote a solution for the x360 version of this game which includes a playlist of how he beated the game on AKUMU without upgrades and keys. As I said, I don't recommend doing this, still this playlist can give you a good set of guidelines of how to beat certain sections.

The Evil Within (Xbox 360)You Asked For ItThe You Asked For It achievement in The Evil Within (Xbox 360) worth 321 pointsFinish the game on 悪夢(AKUMU) mode.

One last thing I want to add: Once you finish AKUMU (or Hard difficulty) you will unlock the brass knuckles, which are a beast in new game+ and help a lot to get the 5 hours playthrough achievement (I would recomend trying on easy for this one,... unless you feel brave enough to do it again in AKUMU).

Wow! No one has explained this...
HOW IS "AKUMA" DIFFICULTY UNLOCKED???

I web searched it. The site that actually attempted to answer it said, "AKUMA mode.
Successfully complete the game to unlock the AKUMA difficulty, which Sebastian dies in one hit."

NOT TRUE! I just beat the game on Casual, and it only unlocked NIGHTMARE.

Please don't tell me that to unlock AKUMA, the game must be completed on SURVIVAL, not CASUAL. If there was a guide explaining this, I would have never played CASUAL.

Hey guys,
I finally got this nasty thing done with the help of both of the solutions above, so thanks to both of the authors for sharing your tips on different parts of this game.

In addition to those solutions I primarily used this guide http://psnprofiles.com/guide/1803-The-Evil-Within-Akumu-Play...

The author describes all levels more or less in detail with a fitting strategy. It really helped me a lot ( especially combined with the excellent videos, even though the guy in the video went the extra mile and did it without upgrades). I just thought I share this excellent guide with all of you who want to go for this nasty thing as well.

Other than that I like to give you a few of my impressions on that insanely game mode:

1. If you want to do this be prepared to bring lots of patience with you. For me it all came down to playing the same stage over and over again, so that I could develope some kind of pattern I could follow. Due to the somewhat random nature of this game this might not always work

2. Get all the keys you can get in the game! Getting all the lockers open really can save your life in some of the harder sections of the game ( I am looking at you chapter 6). Also try to get as much green gel from the lockers as possible to upgrade your stuff. Save before opening them and reload if you get shots or stuff you don't really need.

3. Start upgrading your ammo capacities. You don't want to let that rare commodity behind. As someone else said: " leaving a round behind, is just like firing it in the wall."

4. CHAPTER 6: this is it. This chapter will decide if you will make this or not. I was almost about to quit the whole shabang after being stuck in the burning houses for several hours. I finally made it by using the strategy for the 1st room from the link above and using 6 fire arrows in the 2nd room. I stood right next to Joe and blocked the narrow way to the door with 2 fire arrows. I did this 3 times in a row and managed to kill the rest of them with electric arrows. For the fire arrows you will need the weapon dlc, though. But I don't think I could have done this without them. Sometimes you need to be aware of those zombies that start running towards you even though they are on fire. If that happens to you try to strike them down with the shotgun or try to kite around them.

4. After that chapter you are good to go imho. The rest felt almost like a walk in the park, compared to the horrors you had to go through in chapter 6. Just stick to the guide above and you should be good.

5. One last thing: the guide advises you to upgrade the magnum to lvl.5 in chapter 11. I did it and it certainly came in handy when facing the keeper in the cooling room or the 2 keepers in chapter 15 but it is a lot of gel for just these few bosses. If you feel like spending it for something else, I think lvl. 4 will do as well.
And as soon as you get the magnum try opening locker doors till you get 2 boxes of ammo for it. It is a life saver against those bosses.

As I said, primarily I wanted to share the guide above. The tips are more a little extra here. If you have any other tips please feel free to share them in the comments and I ll include them

Hope this helps some of you guys ;)

Your wording about chapter 6 could not be more correct. It really is a deciding factor to whether or not you will make it through the rest. Great tips! Thanks!

This is the BEST GUIDE on the internet for Akumu.

It was created by Jigzaw_Killer on youtube. PLEASE ensure you like it on youtube for his amazing effort of this full walkthrough which includes several speed run attributes.

Tried of trying to save your partner from having his head chopped off? Hand him a explosive dart and watch the explosion as the haunted get a surprise.

Amazing Strats for

- The Dog fight
- Chapter 10 end boss
- Chapter 6 turret emplacements and mini boss
- The deadly kitchen sequence - my fav!
- The bridge sequence
- Bus sequence (the huge boss)
- End Chapter 12 - return to the bus.
- He also suggest upgrades, and when they are needed.

Use freeze darts to collect trap parts from bombs.

NOTE: this video doesn't include all the keys (most of them) and he doesn't collect all the gel. But he collects what he needs to make it work!

Awesome job Sir!

TLDR: Use infinite ammo with the double-barrel shotgun from the fighting chance pack.
The windows Gamepass PC version of this game contains an infinite ammo "cheat" with Bethesda net it makes this almost a joke, with just a few areas that are hard to avoid damage but should not give too much trouble.
I managed to get Akumu, No Upgrades and finished with a clear time of 4:23. so this should be not much trouble. This version includes the fighting chance pack which contains the double-barrel shotgun, Use this with the infinite ammo, just keep tapping the trigger, and it's like an assault rifle with how fast it fires, bosses, drop in under 5 seconds.

And to think that I had second thoughts about pulling this off...

If Chapter 6 is the parameter for gamers to evaluate if they can or cannot play the hardest difficulty, then I say it is not that hard at all. You just have to do the right things and not screw it. Here's some more specifics:

- The only "ABILITIES" that I upgraded up to the starting point of this chapter was Maximum Sprint Time ONCE. I could've done it twice or more, but for some reason I didn't. Being able to run away is important.

- The only "WEAPONS" that I upgraded up to the starting point of this chapter were the Handgun and the Shotgun. Both of which I upgraded once: the Damage Multiplier, the Clip Capacity and the Critical.

- The only "STOCK" that I upgraded up to the starting point of this chapter were: Handgun ammunition up to level 4; Shotgun ammunition up to level 3; Agony Bolts all the way to level 3; Grenades up to level 2; Matches up to level 3.

- The only "AGONY BOLTS" that I upgraded up to the starting point of this chapter was the Flash Bolt up all the way to level 5. Forget anything else I described above. This is the most important point of it: Flash Bolt all the way to level 5. With each flash bolt giving you up to 16 seconds of enemy stun, you're good to go. They are cheap to make (only 2 parts) and very, very handy.

How to beat chapter 6 more easily:

"PART 1"

I had also saved up shock bolts (even though I didn't upgrade them) for the begining of chapter 6 since the strategy later on was to stall the enemies while your partner Joseph hacks the doors open. I also had freeze bolts, although I refrained to use those, first because they kill and second because they're expensive to craft, so I wanted to save them for other chapters. That being said, if you decide to use those bolts, you can save the flash bolts for the second room.

So, once you arrive at the gate the real action will begin after a cutscene. It's a good idea to have the shotgun ready for as soon as the checkpoint begins (and you will die and restart here a "few" times) because one of the enemies might spawn with a handaxe and throw it at you in a splitsecond, instantkilling you. Shoot that enemy and the other one, but you don't want to kill them. Like I said, you want to delay them. Killing them will only make more and tougher enemies come. Eventually you will inevitably kill them and more will come but for the first little while just try to align them and use your shotgun. When they are on the ground DO NOT approach them (they might insta get up). Wait until they normally get up and position yourself away from Joseph, behind the table. After killing the first pair of enemies, as soon as more of them come, shoot one shock bolt to the ground in front of you, blocking their only way to get you. So, when the enemies come for you, the only way through is getting shocked. Make sure no enemies go bother Joseph. Try to attrack them towards you. As soon as the first stunned enemy starts getting up after the shocking effect wears off (don't do it too early, every second counts), shoot another. Once all your shock bolts are used, now is the time to use the flash ones. But you want to spend as few of them as possible, since in the second room you'll need as much of them as possible (up to 5). When you get good at this first part of the mission you will spend only 1 flash bolt in the first room and a little before its effects expire Joseph will have opened the first door. By the way, there's a spare flash bolt on the table, but you'll only be able to pick it up if you have your agony bow and flash bolts equipped (this is stupid IMO).

"PART 2"

Second room: similar strategy. Here's a freeze bolt, an explosive one and some shotgun shells. Get them all. Position yourself a bit closer to Joseph this time, that way you have a wider visibility of the room. But move if you need to and then come back. You can do this 2 ways: delay the first set of enemies with other weapons before turning to the flash bolt or start using it right away. Like I said earlier, each of them will stun the enemies for about 16 seconds, which is very nice. If you have all 5 of them, you can delay the enemies the whole minute that Joseph needs to open the second door.

Following this strategy of mine, eventually you will succeed. It took me about 20 tries to get good at it.

Now to the next part. At the beginning of the area, after picking the sniper up, you want to go left (or right) and attrack enemies towards you and Joseph. He can be very helpful with his axe and even decapitate the big guys. If you decide to go right, shoot the enemies on their legs as they cross a small wood plank made bridge that covers the gap between this starting area and the rest of the left side. That way with only 1 shot you can dispatch the enemies making them fall off.

Lots of enemies will come. Whenever you think you have things under control, having killed most of the enemies around, take down using your sniper one of the four guys manning the "raining bolts" machines. When you get good at it you'll be able to kill them faster, one after the other.

Two extra things worth noting here:
1) If you took the left path from start and activated the "engine" that opens 1 out of 2 doors on the right side (you have to choose one), pick the door on the left. The door on the right have enemies while the one on the left have 2 chests and some pieces which will help you craft more bolts.

2) If you took the right path from the start, after climbing the set of stairs, the open room on the right corner contains a trap. Be careful and approach it from the safe side and try to do that before stupid Joseph gets himself killed by it. In one of my best runs, after having sniped all 4 guys in the high platforms the AI went suicidal into that room even though I approached it from the other side. That made me restart the whole area since there was no saving progress between.

"CHAINSAW BOSS"

After you defeat all enemies it's time to go face the chainsaw guy. He is not harder on Akumu than on other difficulties IMO. I shocked him, then burned him with a torch and finally used a flash bolt and lots of shotgun shots on his face. In less than 1 minute he went down. Another strategy that I thought of and that might help people prepare to that fight is to lay a lot of dropped weapons (handaxes and torches) in that area before the fight begins. This will help those people who, for some reason, don't have enough ammo to take the chainsaw guy down. The only thing to note is that you have to drop the weapons in that little area WHILE one of the 4 guys are still operating in the hanging platform shooting bolts down, otherwise as soon as you approach it the doors will shut down and the cutscene for the fight will begin.

"PART 3"

For the part after riding the elevator up, have your sniper rifle loaded and ready. After the cutscene, as soon as you regain your characters control, aim down the scope and show us why they call you "eagle eyes". Kill the two guys dragging Joseph towards the guillotine.

After the "I want to kill myself with your gun" cutscene, run back towards where you came (away from Joseph) and don't let any of the 4 enemies cross the wood plank made bridge. Burn them with a match if you're able to take them down. A 5th enemy with a mask and a handaxe is further away. Don't worry about him. As soon as you kill those first four, go back to Joseph and you're good to go. Before advancing, there are harpoon bolts around if you want to pick them up.

"GIANT TWINS"

After the above mentioned part of this chapter and before getting to the giants at the cemetery, you'll have the opportunity to go to the infirmary. That's when I upgraded my Harpoon Bolt up to level 4 (240% DMG!!!). By the way, you don't want to purchase level 5 coz there will be a later level where you cannot use any weapons since you're in a flamable room... that is, ALMOST any weapon. If you have the deadly harpoon shots you can use them as long as you don't upgrade it to lvl 5 (when it gets embedded with fire).

Back to chapter 6, to defeat the giant twins using harpoons is easy. With the first one, as soon as you get control of your character, move back a little and stay just a bit around the corner. That's coz he throws his clava/club at you and it will insta kill you if you don't get to cover. After he does that and before he picks it up again, get two perfect harpoon shots at your target. He will get down on his knees. Switch to shotgun and finish the job. His brother will come running. You'll need to fire a freeze bolt just before he hits you (do I need to say insta kill otherwise?). Once he's frozen (or shocked) shoot his share of your harpoons and then shotgun shells until he goes down. As easy as 1, 2, 3. Too bad the reward is only 3500 gel each. New Game Plus is more generous!

"BIG BAD WOLF"

To be honest, this is where I died most. Right at the end. Beat the beast and you're done with this chapter.
The thing is, do NOT fight in the middle. There are many traps on the ground that are hard to spot and as you turn to keep track of the wolf's position you might (often will) end up stepping on those things and... instasuicide yourself. It's quite frustrating.
The "right" way to fight the beast is to circle it (go after its tail) while unloading a couple of shotgun shots in it (not TOO close). Eventually it will go away, so you have to go after it when it hides and fight it there, among the bushes and corners. You're welcome to find another way, this is just how it worked for me.
What's actually expected of the player is to blow the beast up with some explosive, which will take it to the ground. Then put a few well placed shots in it, then rinse and repeat about 3 times.
Like I said, I died A LOT here, so there's no magic trick besides keep trying to do it right.
Once the beast go down, there will be a cutscene. After that you still have to fight it, but it's
a lot easier. After having to go back through the gate to this area, go straight for the glasses. Then simply had back and go through the gate again. You don't actually get to fight it.
I tried to collect the gel from its corpse but I eventually gave up since the beast would take many more shots and not die. This was a frustrating fight.

These are the hardest parts of mission 6 in my opinion and also the strategies I came up to get around it. Like I said, if this is the parameter to evaluate if one can pull this achievement off, then those of you who can replicate these ideas are good to go.

EDIT: There we go, I did it! 22:45:10 and 526 deaths. Can't say that it's easy, but definetely doable. It will try your patience and persistence though, time and again.

If any of it helps you in any way, let me know by leaving a thumbs up. Thanks!

Akumu mode is just a nightmare in some areas, which I will try to explain them later. In general these are the tips you have to have clear for the walkthrough:

- With one hit you are killed, so there is no point in taking medical packages.
- Use the environment to kill enemies...really, you will enjoy it.
Before Akumu walktrough I never used bottles or straw, and its very important, because it will let you save bullets.
- Use bottles to knock enemies. To do this you have to hit them in the head, and run to execute them. You can also execute when you have enemies in front, so don´t worry about that, but be fast.
- Collect as many pieces as you can, you will need them to create bolts.
- Collect as many keys as you can, this is very important and don´t use them until you really need some specific bullets. (bolts commonly or even gel).
- Be very carefull with lying enemies, you can burn them but its probable they start slapping...I was killed many times this way.
- Ruvik clones are easy to kill if you have harpoon bolt upgraded. If
I´m not wrong, in Akumu in chapter 3 is when Ruvik clones start to appear.
- Pick up the magnum and use them with the boxman, normally with 2 bullets you have done it.
- With the invisibles ones, just use a flash bolt and execute them, easier than it appears.
- Laura is stressing, you have to burn the boddies so that she can´t respawn.
- When we need specific bullets, use the keys to open doors in the safe area.

As you will already know, the most difficult areas are in chapter 6 and chapter 11, and I will give some tips for these two nightmares...

Chapter 6 area tips:

It´s important you arrive to chapter 6 with some keys and with bolts upgraded to level 4, seriously, don´t use them until this moment. The reason is simple...at the beginning of the chapter you have to go through 2 hordes, with no checkpoint between them.

The first horde is not simple, but is more mechanical at the
beginning, so with a bit of luck you will go through it. The second one is a nightmare, and here is where we have to use all the arrows we have. I explain which one we have to use:

The second horde lasts 90 seconds more or less. As I have said before, you have to arrive to chapter 6 with at least 8 flash bolts upgraded to level 4, also shock bolts help a lot to create an "enemy wall". Why? At level 4 all the bolts last 13 seconds...well, the strategy seems simple, but it is not. Making calculations...if we arrive with 5 flash bolts and with the possibily of creating another 3...we can be "safe" during 104 seconds.

In reality it could be not enough. The problem of the flash bolts is that they don´t do anything to the enemies they will be falling, so it´s recomendable to have at least one shock bolts to stop for 13 seconds all the enemies, and then just keep using flash bolts.

It took me 4 hours, and as you will see in the video, yes, I was very lucky, but also unlucky so many times before. It´s probably the worst part in the game, and very stressing.

Chapter 11 area tips:

There is not much to say. It´s also important to arrive to this point with enough bolt bullets. The difficult area is when you take the horizontal lift (I´m sorry but I don´t know exactly the name). The first half it´s just mechanical, but in the second half you will have to use flash bolt and pray to arrive to the other side. Be careful with the enemies throwing molotovs and axes.

Here is a video where I show the strategy:

The last thing I will recommend it´s a YouTube channel. It´s the one I followed as a guide, and the guy really knows what to do. I highly recommend watching his videos, he deserves it. This is his channel:

Good luck!

I just finished this colossally-huge-pain-in-the-ass achievement the past weekend, this isn't a solution as such but I found a lot of use for Mr Pow's achievement videos.

I finished with about 150-160 deaths, and the worst chapter by far is 11 just for that god awful lift section.

His tactics are helpful and easy to replicate, although you may find you need to improvise sometimes, he even shows you the relevant upgrades which help the most - Your most important weapon will be the Agony Crossbow, treasure it and hold it close. GOOD LUCK! toast

Beat the game on Akumu. This difficulty is unlocked after beating the game on Survival. I do not recommend attempting any achievements with this. This is hard enough and will have you hating life. It took me 3-4 hours to beat chapter 2 with upgrades(This is total time as I died a lot!)

Differences between this mode and the others is that there are more enemies, more obstacles, less ammo\drops and you die after 1 hit. Now this is one hit from ANYTHING! Stepping in a bear trap auto kills you.

Tips:

****Try to get all keys, ammo and Green Gel will be useful
****Sneak kill whenever possible
**** Things to upgrade: Stamina, Sniper damage, Magnum Damage, Agony Crossbow, Agony Bolts Stock in general
**** Upgrade Shock and Flash bolts as much as you can, you will need it for Chapter 6.
**** Do not waste Gel on Syringes or health. You will die with 1 hit regardless.

Chapter 1
This fairly easy. One big difference is that the Sadist needs to break boxes for you in the second room when you are trying to sneak by. You can use a bottle to achieve this but he is still a pain to get by in that 2nd room afterwards.

Chapter 2
This was a pain in the butt. It was smooth sailing until the bonfire when you are trying to get to the gate to open. For this part I recommend being patient and sneak killing all the enemies. My pattern was to sneak left of the cart towards a haunted with a torch. Stay behind the wall until he heads south, then you can follow and sneak kill. Next head towards the nearby house where another torch guy is guarding. You can sneak around back the house and enter the back door. Sneak to the front door's edge and just wait for him to head south and that is your chance. Go on the path now and head back to that Haunted that was chilling by the fire. As long as you are directly behind him you should be able to sneak kill him

Head back to the house and pick up the bottle, head towards the back of the room and then throw the bottle at the wall near but not at the trap. Hide around the corner and wait for them to come in and explode. It will usually kill one but another 1 or 2 will come towards you. They should stop close to the corner but not close enough to see you around it. Once they turn around kill them. Head back out the back door and head to the side of the house on the left side of the broken wall. Wait for the haunted to come towards you and then turn around. You will need to wait until he is half way to the door to the next room before moving to kill him as he will see you.

There might be a guy or two just out on the path. Use your best judgement for them. You do have the trap in the burning house at your disposal, just be sure to drop a match if he survives. There are also 4 bear traps around. Once caught you can drop a match on them. Be aware that there should also be 2 torches around as well. Once you deal with those two, there will be a haunted behind the burning house. Just go under the trap and wait around the corner for it. Once it turns around kill it. Lastly there are 4 bodies lying on the ground. They will get up if you touch the gate wheel. You can kill 2 of them with matches while they play dead. This will wake the other 2 where is the best time to use the bear traps.

After that you can open the gate unmolested though I recommend going back to the bonfire and heading north to that house for the 2nd key on the level. Be careful. Sneak at all times as there are some hidden enemies somewhere. I never did find them before it was too late. Sneak down the right side, go behind the wall. Wait for an opportunity to get the torch bearer. There is a guy who comes in and out of the house so wait for him to head back into the house. Sneak into the house from the right side through a window. There is a trap in the hallway so be careful. Try to hide in the kitchen area if you can get over there and wait for the haunted to head back outside. Chase him and kill him, you have to be quick with him. Lastly there is the room that is boarded up. There is a haunted playing dead. I used the torch on him and grabbed the key and snuck out.

Chapter 3
This another pain in the butt. After encountering Marcelo you are put in a awful situation. If you head to the next house, two haunted charge you no matter what once you hit a certain spot and if you head back the way you came 2 haunted come up the stairs and you have nowhere to hide. I triggered the two, lured them to where I met Marcello and hid on the balcony. Once they head back I killed them. Once you leave the house and are between the house and barn follow the haunted there and kill him. Head back into the first house and you can sneak kill another enemy in the kitchen area. Just scout his position first.

Head into the barn and out the back. Drop a match on the first haunted and prepare for a 2nd to come at you. Use a torch to kill the 2nd guy or run back into the bar and hid on the other side of the door. Head back out to the end of the path. Do not go up the stairs yet, kill the haunted just sitting there with his back to you. BE AWARE there are 2 bear traps between you and him and a fake Ruvik walking down the path in front of him. Once dead head back and go up those stairs. Walk to the end and the window will break. No matter what the haunted will see you come in. Try to kill him with the switch trap. Another two will come in the house from the front. Just run out the window and wait for a chance to strike. You will likely just get one.

Head upstairs, and sneak outside where the gunman is. Kill him. At this point you can head back down to the area between the barn and that house where you killed that haunted that was just standing there. Hide behind the wall and wait for an opportunity to sneak kill fake ruvik. He will detect you if you sneak behind him while he moves. You must wait until he stops to get close. So keep some distance while you are behind him. From this point on I used my guns to kill the remaining enemies. Mostly because I got caught.

Once the way is clear check out the chain then trigger the sadist. He is faster than you and you will die if you run. What I did was run until he got close, he will try to swing at you, dodge it and then shoot him with an explosive bolt. You will only have one so make it count. The next two shots where flash bolts + sneaking. I did exploring after all enemies were dead. Rest was done via pistol and shotty. Do not forget the 4 Keys in this level.

Chapter 4
This level isn't too difficult. It is pretty straight forward. Just be sure to remember to grab the key in the patients torso before chasing after Leslie. There are 4 enemies in the first area. A haunted in a house at the far left and one behind the Doctor's house both avoidable, a haunted on the top floor of the Doctor's house and the doctor himself. I just used my shot gun to down the doctor and drop a match on him. When you are going after Leslie into the basement be sure to grab the axe on one of the picnic tables in front of the save room door. This will come in handy later. Once you trigger the invisible haunted use the axe on him. Luckily for me he charged me and I saw him just as he got in front of me and he got an axe to the kisser. Then you will be put in a new area full of blood and death. This part is difficult.

So once you get to the white door Ruvik will spawn a bunch of enemies and a fake Ruvik. Before triggering this event do some preparation. First off disarm the wire traps. Then there is a switch at blood level that will drain the blood. Another switch with release a body, press it again for a key. In the back corner there is a room, go there to the top and flip the switch. Two cans will drop. Position them how you would like. Now for the fun part. Spawn the enemies. What you will want to do is run towards that room but avoid the Fake Ruvik path. Use the cans and bombs to take out the haunted. There is also an oil spill in the fake Ruvik spawn area and a switch that shoots spikes from the roof.. Use that as well but do not touch the fire as it will kill you. If you are lucky you will have killed the fake Ruvik with one of the traps. If not try to trigger his arm attack and lob a grenade at his feet. Took 2 to kill him. After that you just need to out run Laura to the elevator.

Chapter 5
This Chapter isnt that difficult. Early on the Invisible Haunted might give you some trouble but I used my Agony bolts on them to easily dispose of them. Shock and Flash bolts are self explanatory. The explosive bolt, what I did was plant it on the ground so the haunted would trip it and die or get downed. The Harpoon works well too, IF you can hit them. There is a room you will come to with a bunch of haunted in beds and a haunted that wakes them up if seen. You might be able to sneak kill the haunted and avoid this section, if not what I did was wake them up and run back out the doors you came in and you will see an oil spill. Go on the other side, light it and wait for the haunted to cross and burn. It can be risky leaving Joseph by himself but he managed to survive for me.

The next troubling part will be the area with Kidman in the glass case. There are a lot of enemies and frankly Joseph holds you back quite a bit. Half the times I failed were because he got killed. What i ended up doing was running down at the start and throwing grenades at the haunted behind bar doors. I then used the shotgun to take out the other haunted. Dynamite guys aren't too threatening. Just keep them at a distance and stay out of range of their blasts. Luckily you will get a checkpoint half way through. At which point the only struggle is the haunted with masks. At this point either just unload on them till they die or shotgun + match combo. You have to be careful though as you are vulnerable during the animation and you can be hit by flailing haunted.

Last part you may struggle with is Laura. I can not confirm this is true but I believe once she runs out of bodies to spawn from she is done. You can burn most the bodies before triggering the fight. I did not do this. What I did was run up to the body she spawned from and dropped a match as she came out of it. Do not drop before you see her reach out with her claws, it will not light her on fire then. Rinse and repeat with all bodies except 1 in each trap area. What you want to do is use each torch near the switch for the traps. Once she burns she will spawn out of the last body in the trap area. Flip the switch and she drops into fire. Do this for the 2nd trap and she will be finished. If her life is connected to the bodies. Removing them might be the easiest way to beat her.

Chapter 6
This level is ****ing stupid. You are going to want kill yourself during this level so if you do not have the patience to spend hours on one part of a level, you should quit while you are ahead. When you get to the burning house and you have to defend vs hordes of haunted while Joseph disarms the bomb doors. You start of with a Haunted charging you immediately. Sometimes he will throw an axe at you. There were times I did within a second of loading. Do your best to kill the haunted. They will spawn 2 and then 3 and then things start to get crazy. This is where those bolts come in handy. You can use the shock bolts and Flash bolts to stun the enemy and buy yourself time. Do not try and collect green gel dropped by enemies, you will die in the process.

Now the frustrating part is that once that door is open and you start door 2. There is no checkpoint. You die and you start ALL over again. You will get a freeze bolt and 2 explosive bolts down stairs. Do yourself a favour and create more Flash bolts as they are the cheapest. You now have to survive for 90 seconds. A fully upgraded Flash bolt can buy you a lot of time and if you got some shock bolts left that will buy you additional time. Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this. After this you will need to do the part with the Sniper and taking out those gunmen in the boxes. Focus on talking out the haunted and then take out the furthest gunmen box to the left. After that drops you can see a haunted rush for a switch which will release a group of haunted. Shoot him, you dont need to kill him. Just hitting him will stop him from using it. That cuts the amount of haunted down by half. Now try and focus on taking the other ones out as well as the haunted that come at you.

WARNING: Joseph is a F***ing idiot so stay away from that one room to the far right near the start. Joseph will trigger the trap EVERY time and get himself killed. He even triggers it while you disarm it........ For the guardians. I froze them in ice and unloaded on them.
Last bit will be the Wolf haunted. This is definitely a pain. Explosive bolts will knock him down. Use that to your advantage. You also need to try and hit him when he charges at you. It cannot be dodged. After you down him and then need to go back to get Joe's glasses, look near Joseph for a freeze bolt. Go back in and you can either run and get the glasses and escape or take him down for the extra Green Gel. Option is yours, tactics are the same. Sniper can be useful at a distance.

Chapter 7
A much easier chapter. Nothing too crazy. Take advantage of traps to kill those deformed haunted. Be aware that the gas meter rises faster so there is more urgency but other than that, nothing too difficult. For the Keeper: a grenade + 3-4 Shotgun shots kills him quickly. Another change is that when you need to shoot the two gears to drop the spike trap from the ceiling, There is a trap that rolls behind you. Jump into the hole until that trap stops and then jump back up.

Chapter 8
This is another easy one. Off the start you got a few enemies. Just kill them with your weapon, move to the next room kill them as well. Eventually you will hit the room with the 2nd gate that spawns those small bastards. What I did was turn the wheel a bit to get them to spawn, run towards the entrance and grenade them. With one hit kills, they are pretty dangerous, some may survive, just shoot them if there is 2-3. If more try and run over them all. Once they are gone, open the gate. From this point on try to run through the rest of the chapter. Watch out for an area that has a deformed haunted on the ground. He will grab you and kill you. I had to shoot him twice to be able to run by him. Other than that, nothing to worry about.

Chapter 9
This level is mostly straight forward. Do the same things you did on the previous difficulties. The only stupid part is the Barn. It was like Chapter 6 but more annoying because not only do you have the limited mobility against a ton of Haunted, you get killed by the fire if you get too close which is hard not to plus you have to deal with that stupid beady ruvik ahole. Guy will just disappear and reappear where you are standing and he will hill you if you are remotely close to him. He was at least 2-3 people lengths away and he still killed me. If that wasnt hard enough, your screen shakes every 10 seconds making shooting almost impossible. I used the Sniper to kill the first two guys, 2nd one is ify as you will get the screen shake as he spawns. Shotgun rest as much as you can then I used the explosive bolt to take the rest out as there are grouped together. Just hard to keep out of range.

Chapter 10
This is a difficult chapter. Things are fairly simple until you meet the Trauma enemies(Big brownish guys with metal on their arm). For me they were hard to take down. I didnt find ice bolts to be very effective but shock worked fine. The problems start when you have to fight the two. They both charged me into that 2nd room. I kept throwing Ice and shock bolts at them comboed with harpoon, explosive bolts and grenades. I managed to survive somehow. The real test came with Laura. She is faster and a lot more aggressive then before and cheap to be honest. She lunges at you and you are pretty much franked if you do. I find at the end when you have room to work with, staying closest to her is the safest because you can do circles around her easily. I do not recommend trying to kill her but it is possible. If you want to go that route, burn her as often as you can. Like the previous encounter if you can get her to spawn at a body, drop a match as soon as she comes out. After that it took all my explosive ice and shock bolts + my shotgun and most of my sniper ammo to kill her. This was also 4-6 hours since starting that section. If you do beat her, you can get a key near the elevator. Of course that isn't the end.

Now you got to face that giant monster in the parking lot. Luckily, it is much easier than Laura was. You start hidden behind a pillar. Stay there. It will expose a tentacle with an eye, shoot the eye and shoot the monster ONCE. He wont notice you if you just shoot once. He will move to the left, so move while still hiding. He will reveal the eye again and repeat what you did. After this he will initiate stage two. Which is that whole purple light thing. I noticed he always knew where I was after transforming so after I hit that 2nd eye, I just kept unloading on him. Eventually he got up and chased me, without transforming. I made my way into that small room and continued shooting him with my sniper until he finished trying to grab me the first time, the 2nd time he tries he will grab you. So I booked it out of the room once he pulled back and ran to the 2nd small room on the other side of the map and did the same thing. He died while I was in the room.

Chapter 11
This Chapter sucks almost as badly as Chapter 6. So many enemies, not enough ammo, If you have taken my advice and grabbed keys. You are set, just fill up once you are forced into the safe area because the section after that is a b*tch. Main pain in the ass is the SWAT Haunted with Machine guns. You will run into a few of these. They first appear in the area where you need to interact with a locked door to open the area with the key in a fenced area. The first one will come through the only door to the key area and the other will be near the exit door with his sniper scope on his machine gun. No lie, this guy picked me off from the other side of the map. What I had to do was quickly bounce a grenade of the wall in the 1st ones general area. Run towards him and finish him off. Deal with haunted. Then I left the room and ran straight for cover. Another group of haunted will pursue you but after that you should be fine. Then you will just need to deall with the machine gun guy and he doesnt give you much of a window.

Your next encounters will be at the spot where the hordes of haunted come out from the garage door and you can see them all in the cage room above. This parts a pain because they added Snipers. So some haunted will run for the top while you deal with the others to snipe you and there is one that appears in the background to the right. The last guy of course is a machine gun guy who hides in the garage and shoots as soon as the door opens. Again leaves you with little time to counter attack. I managed to get him with a harpoon as I wasted my ammo. Next area you have to turn on the generator. To get to this area you need to drop down but of course a sniper is prepped and ready to shoot the second you hit the ground. Your only way to live is to sprint and jump down. Kill the sniper, run the generator and a group of haunted will come after you + 2 machine guys. Fun! Next area is a giant F you to the player. I had 4 pistol bullets, a shock bolt and a harpoon , all magnum bullets available to that point

Lets just say it is impossible without using the magnum for me at that point. I had to create an explosive bolt to deal with the two haunted to the left, 2 pistol bullets for the cocktail throwers, Harpoon for axe thrower to the right, magnum for the many machine gun guys. I created another harpoon for the 3rd cocktail guy and just used my magnum on the 4th. There is an Axe guy to the top right as well, just use pistol on the explosive barrel. Only other curve ball is the mannequin factory. The first half, the Trauma enemies were replaced with the green saw blades with mannequins on them. There are 3. I found them easier to navigate than the two Trauma. Last curve ball is after getting the key, Enemies are waiting behind that gate. So you need to lure them to the back and run back to the door and up the ladder. Do not let the guys on the other side of the fence see you. I got seen and it triggered a cut scene of a haunted lighting an explosive which obviously blew up the factory due to the gas.

Chapter 12
I found this chapter a bit difficult. I had some trouble with the Spider Monster. My only tips are aim for the head. I seemed to consistently get a response within 2 shots to the head with the pistol. He has a few attacks that are easy enough to dodge once you know what to do and when they are coming. There is a one arm swipe. Simply crouch. Stay down as he will do it once with both arms. Another one he will slash with both arms at the same time. For this stay near the front of the bus. He will also do a move where he props himself up and slams his arms into the top end of the bus and drags down. To avoid this you must move into the middle section to the left between the seats. Last one he will do is move his arm into the air and try to stab you. It is easy to dodge.

Some other challenges will be the burning building. What I did figure out at the end is when all the guys spawn above the front of the bus, you can use the front of the bus as cover and just deal with the side enemies. Let Joseph and Kidman take care of the guys above you. Last one will be after Joseph gets shot. You can clear the way to the ambulance easily using the Bottles + barrels. The tough part is when you grab the mini gun. The haunted waves now include dynamite throwing haunted which can kill you easily since you are standing still.

Chapter 13
Not difficult at all. I wasnt able to sneak kill the fake Ruviks but they went down fairly easy. One Explosive bolt killed one and a shotgun shot and Sniper shot killed the other. The area with haunted with explosives on them was changed so that two haunted come out of the doors with explosives on them after dispatching the 1st one. As for the keeper. I dealt with him with a Magnum shot to kill him once and 3 Sniper shots to kill him a second time. I think I killed a third one with a magnum as well.

Chapter 14
Surprisingly this level is pretty simple. One thing you have to be careful of is the invisible haunted. There are 3 that I remember. One is by the first fake Ruvik and the other two are laying down invisible one the rocks in the water where the next fake Ruvik is. For this part I dispatched the fake Ruvik in 1 sniper shot and then his two friends with headshots with the sniper. Disarm the traps and you can get through relatively easy. The next tough area isn't until much later where you get your second circuit piece. Instead of a lot of deformed haunted you have to get by two traumas. I found it easiest to just run by them grab the piece and run to the wheel. Grabbing the piece will spawn two deformed haunted. Once I got to the wheel I shocked and shottyed them. The big guys did not follow. Another deformed haunted will spawn but I just ran past him. Boss is easy. Simply freeze and shoot with the magnum. After that you should no problem with the rest of the level

Chapter 15
Final chapter is one of the easier levels. Only difficult area is the first room when you are transported to Ruvik's eye area and you need to fight off hordes of haunted before a rocket sadist opens the way to the next area. What I found helpful was to beat the first wave to their spawn point up the ladder to the right. Once they all drop down, flash bolt them and dispatch them. I had a fully upgraded flash bolt so I was able to take out all 4. Another group will spawn at the opposite side. Wait up at the top and flash them as well once all 4 are in the area. Dispatch the SWAT guy first as he is your biggest pain in the ass. After that a cut scene will start and a fake Ruvik will spawn with some more haunted. Take out Ruvik immediately. I used 1 shot of the sniper to kill him. Once you kill the rest of the horde you will earn a checkpoint. I hid at the back after killing Ruvik and used Shotgun on them as they tried to climb up.

Three fat guys will spawn at the back. I dispatched them with the Flame harpoon. More will spawn elsewhere. I killed the rest using the shotgun as they climbed up. Once only 2 re left, it will trigger the Sadist who you wil kill quickly using your magnum. It will take 2-3 shots. After that the next room is the same. Four guys, snipe them move on to the opstacle challenge. Its the same as the other difficulties but more traps. Once you know where they are you will get by easily and the boss battle is no more difficult than casual.

Congratulations! You have beaten the game on Akumu. At this point I saw I had died 472 times at a time 20 hours(Rounded up). Of course I spent way more time on this. When I looked on time played on the game itself in steam. I was at 129 hours.

There is not that much to say about this trophy. Just be aware to die a lot :-P

If you want to follow a guide, i recommend the guide from Mr.POW on YouTube. He shows awesome tactics and more important how to spend your green gel and keys to follow his tactics.

Good luck to you all.

Akumu mode is unlocked by beating the game on Survival mode.

Akumu mode is the Nightmare setting with one hit kills meaning death to you. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to earn this trophy. You must complete this on a fresh playthrough of the game.

Recommended upgrades:
  • Sprint- to adjust for the faster enemies and being able to make a getaway safely. Note that you do not need to max this out. In fact, it costs too much to focus on. Take 2 or 3 ranks in this and no more.
  • Handgun: Critical Damage - The revolver is next to useless as you progress through the game, but every bullet counts and with critical damage you stand a chance to kill enemies earlier and without wasting a lot of your ammo. Do not upgrade damage on the Revolver. You are not using this weapon to spray and pray. The Revolver is best used to pull off a few quick headshots or exploding spike traps near enemies.
  • Shotgun: Critical Damage - The shotgun is like the Revolver, but stronger and meant for stunning groups. The base damage is decent enough for whatever you need in the game, so I would just focus on critical chance.
  • Rifle: Damage - The Rifle is a very solid gun and you don't want to use it fighting off regular zombies unless you absolutely have to. It does not need critical chance at all because the headshots all come from damage on it's own.
  • Rifle: Rate of Fire - This is not super important, but upgrading it could save you during fights between shots. This makes the "reload" animation between shots faster. 1 or 2 points in this and you'll be better off.
  • Agony Crossbow: - You don't need range, damage, or aim speed. You'll just want to upgrade Flash and Shock Bolts.
  • Spend green gel on:
Rifle, Grenade, Revolver, Shotgun, Bolt, Grenade Stock. All of these are important to upgrade, but it's important you upgrade clip size and stock size for whatever gun you choose to. If you focus on one or the other, you'll find yourself spending more green gel then you have to.
  • Do not spend green gel on:
Syringe Stock, Syringe Potency, Overall Health level, Melee Damage, or weapon upgrades other than those mentioned above. The upgrades that are not mentioned may help you in some instances, but they're not worth wasting green gel on when you can spend it optimizing a weapon's strengths versus it's weaknesses.

Tips:
  • It's tempting to take the trap parts from the spike traps, but in most cases it's better to leave the traps up to shoot as enemies run by them. This saves you more than it hurts you by not collecting the trap parts. The same can be said for wire traps in some areas.
  • Save all your keys until after you receive the Magnum. Save your game, use a key and try to obtain Magnum Ammo, Rifle Ammo, or Bolts you may be low on. Prioritize Magnum ammo until it's full though. Save your game when you get magnum ammo, reload your save when you don't.
  • Be mindful of your ammo. Don't overuse any singular gun. Don't shoot enemies that can be avoided, and Don't waste bullets on misc trophy encounters.
  • Save your grenades for enemy encounters where you're trapped in a confined space with an enemy. For example, the burning house in chapter 6 or "damsel in distress" room in chapter 11.
  • Save Magnum and Rifle ammo for bosses or problems enemies. A problem enemy is a sniper, dynamite tosser, or an enemy that must be killed in order to end an encounter.
  • RUN, RUN, RUN. If it doesn't need to die, don't kill it. If you're in a bad position to be overwhelmed, find a new position. Look for areas where you can exploit enemy movement. Narrow door ways, rooms with one entrance, or roof tops that the enemies can't climb are all good examples of areas you should be looking for when you have to fight enemies.
  • Although timing is key, sometimes crouching before an enemy hits you will actually dodge the hit. Don't be afraid to crouch if you're about to be melee'd to death. It could save your life.
