Converted a fortified position for the Pirates

How to unlock the The Free life achievement in The Falconeer - Definitive Guide

This can be done in Chapter 1.

Fortified positions are converted by destroying all of the turrets at a fortified location. This achievement requires you to do this while having pirate status, which is received by attacking a friendly or neutral faction. Once you are flagged as a pirate simply take over any fortified location that doesn't already belong to the pirates.

The closest place I found to do this from the starting point of the Dunkle chapter is Fort Elias. It is located north and slightly west of Dunkle and has three turrets which shouldn't take much effort to destroy. Attacking the first turret will flag you as a pirate, destroy all of them and your achievement will unlock.

Pirate status seems to be removed upon death, or by exiting to the main menu from the pause screen and reloading the game.

Thanks to Stob Rone and exactor it for confirming how this achievement works.

Update on April 13 2024 - Video link removed, I didn't complete the TA setup to have clips uploaded to their YouTube channel and this was lost when Xbox wiped all old clips.

It seems like this might be missable. After having done everything in the game and finding all locations.
I can't figure out how I'm supposed to do this since I've already found and converted over all of the fortified locations, leaving me no more to convert over.
So you may have to clear your progression to get this,
or maybe there's another way?

I'm not sure what's happening to be honest. If you check the recent winners you can see a good mix of people that earned it as an early achievement, and many that got it as one of their last during clean-up before 100%-ing the game.

I don't have another gamertag to test it on but it should work on any fort that is white or blue on your map. When you attack a turret it should flag you as a pirate and then pop after you've destroyed all turrets and it does the camera zoom to show the location has been converted to the pirates. If the camera doesn't zoom immediately after destroying the last target you sometimes have to fly around it to trigger the cinematic.

Good luck, I hope you can figure it out.

Oh thanks, that makes more sense. I just didn't understand how to do it.

But how do you kill your own turrets? When I shoot them it misses because I can't hit my own people.

Yes!
It's all good! I just wasn't aiming close enough, as auto aim seems to be more strict when trying to kill your own guys.
The video helped a lot. Thanks!

To anyone confused, its a Status like the GTA Wanted level.
Its nothing to do with the Class \Chapter\ Campaign you pick.
3 Stars will appear, filling up as you get kills. Eventually Legendary pirate hunters spawn after you.

Just DONT try it on the last Chapter - Epilogue, as killing a friendly any where on the map is an instant fail.
Load up a Chapter, kill a friendly by locking on with X, then bring up map, head towards a Fort you don't own and take turrets out till you own it "as a pirate".
Achievement will unlock

Hitting "X" locks you onto a turret and then the auto aim should take care of the rest as long as you shoot close enough to the target.

I haven't played in a while so I am extremely rusty, but here's a video I just recorded, hopefully it helps you.

wolfsburgraz playing The Falconeer

Looks like they got rid of the cinematic zoom after capture on one of the updates so that part of my last post is wrong. Also I guess taking over a yellow fort might work too if you are on a chapter where you play as The Mancer. Everything but red, since those are already pirates.

EDIT - Looks like you got it now, good stuff! clap

Playing as a Mancer or an Imperial, attack friendly NPCs, after killing whom the system will brand you a pirate. then with this title we fly to any hostile fort, kill the guards and the trophy is yours
