After getting far enough within the game to unlock the achievement linked here you will gain the ability to run these missions in Kingston called "Defend Albion Resource". Just fast travel to the grand square and it's immediately ahead of you and to the right.
The First Sweep Operation achievement in The First Descendant worth 12 pointsComplete all available missions and Descendant duties in Kingston
This location is the fastest both for levelling up and increasing mastery rank. By now you should have obtained and completed the Mastery Tutorial as well. Do this mission regardless of level and gear.
Each weapon has a proficiency level and it goes up to 40. If you level up your character or your weapons you gain mastery to level up your mastery rank. Simply keep playing here until wave 7 or wave 10 with randoms or friends depending on competency but don't go past wave 10.
You should gain multiple levels on your descendant and weapons every run. Within just 5-6 hours if you're switching through your weapons you should be both level 40 and have mastery rank 10.
You will gain proficiency at a 100% rate for whichever weapon you're holding regardless of who kills the enemy or even if you help or not. Any weapons equipped but not being used will also gain partial exp.

What happens if you go past wave 10?

The enemies HP and DMG just scales up super quickly which most people in your squad and likely even yourself aren't going to stand a chance against at all if you're still not even mastery 10. You're meant to come back and beat those waves later when you're stronger.

Mastery Rank is an overall progression level for every action you take in the game. You will get points for leveling up characters and weapons, unlocking new Descendants, and completing missions. You will want to vary your activities and the weapons you use to keep getting progress toward this. Once you earn enough Mastery XP to level up, you need to return to Albion and visit the Prime Hands terminal to the left of the spawn point to actually apply your next level, though if you fail to do so right away you'll still earn Mastery XP, so don't worry about quitting an activity right away to level up, just take care of it the next time you're in Albion. This achievement will come along the way to completing all the other achievements.
