How to unlock the Learned The Hard Way achievement in The Flame in the Flood - Definitive Guide

UPDATE: as of the July 2016 title update, the achievement is now finally obtainable!

There are 10 causes of death available in the game, most of which you'll probably run across naturally trying to get the other achievements in the game. So if you're going for a 100% completion, you can easily leave this one until the end, or at least until you're wrapping up story mode.

The causes of death are:

Health bars
- Dehydration: deplete Thirst
- Starved: deplete Hunger
- Hypothermia: deplete Body temperature
- Exhausted: deplete Fatigue

Hazards
- Drowning: crash the raft
- Wolf attack: die from repeated attacks by a wolf
- Gored: die from repeated attacks by a boar
- Mauled: die from repeated attacks by a bear (start appearing in area 8 on story mode)
- Snake bite: Get bitten by a snake, then just wait a few minutes for the poison to set in or go sleep.

Disease
- Sepsis: The end stage of an Infection, which you can receive from either a Laceration or Ant Bites. Just leave them uncured and you'll eventually develop Sepsis. If you have enough food and water you can just sleep until you die.

Non fatal
There are loads more afflictions, but they're not fatal in themselves, they "just" add status effects that could cause the health bars to deplete. But they will all eventually cure themselves if left untended.

You can easily see which consequence an affliction has by viewing its progress bar in the journal. If there's no icon at the end of the bar, it will cure itself with time. If it has a skull to the right, it will kill you and count as a cause of death if left uncured.

The 10 Possible "Ways To Die" That The Game Counts:
- Dehydration: Let Water Gauge Run Out
- Drowned: Break Your Raft And Fall Off. (Raft HP Bar Hits Zero)
- Exhausted: Don't Sleep Until Fatigue Gauge Runs Out, Then Don't Click The "Collapse" Button That Pops Up
- Gored: Let A Boar Hit You Until You Die (This Was The Last One I Needed, You Can Dodge Them Pretty Easily)
- Hypothermia: Get Body Temperature To Zero (Easier To Do Down River, Where It's Colder)
- Mauled: Area 8+ Or Endless Mode, Let A Bear Maul You To Death. "Shoo" The Bear To Make It Mad.
------------------------------------------
- Sepsis: Get A Laceration Or Ant Bites, And Don't Treat It.
Laceration > Staph Infection > Sepsis
Ant Bites > Infection > Sepsis
-------------------------------------------
- Snake Bite: Kills You Pretty Quick If You Don't Drink Tea.
- Starved: Let Hunger Gauge Run Out
- Wolf Attack: Let A Wolf Catch You And Don't Run Away, Let It Slap You Until You Fall Down.

This Is Cumulative, And You Can Get It Done As You Play (Sometimes On Accident)
Achievement Pops Upon Getting The Last Death In The List.

Good Luck!

-Dehydration - reduce water levels to zero;
-Hunger - reduce food indicators to zero;
-Hypothermia - reduce temperature to zero;
-Exhaustion - reduce rest indicators to zero;
-Drown - break the raft;
-Die from the paws of wolves;

-Die from sepsis - do not treat lacerations or ant bites. Let them develop into infections. Then do not treat the infection.
