In gold rush, you have to keep declining to dig once you get the gold rush bonus round, and instead opt to move to next dig site. This makes the bonus reward greater and greater. Keep doing this until you get to the red X at the top of your screen.
Then play the dig site this time and hope you get the jackpot. Picking the best pickaxe will help but again, this is by chance.
It took me roughly 40 minutes and 2300 lost currency betting the lowest amount to get to this point. I didn't even win the jackpot - only got 400 currency with the 5 attempt pickaxe. My 5 attempt pickaxe is always the lightest coloured one, not sure if this is true for everyone.

This needs to be done in one sitting. I bet all lines (100) with a bet of (1) = 100 chips per spin. I hit gold rush on average once every 27 spins. 7 Gold Rushes x 27 spins = average of 189 spins before getting to the final jackpot. I actually won +18000+ chips.

This is for the Gold Rush slot machine. When you get three of the chariot icons
with the words "Gold Rush" on them within the screen, you'll trigger a Gold Rush.
For each one you trigger, choose to move forward on the map instead of digging until you reach the red X. Once there, keep spinning and wait for another Gold Rush to trigger and you'll be required to dig, as there are no more areas ahead of this. Now, you'll be going for the final jackpot, which is the highest one possible. According to AchieveSteve's guide, the 5-attempt pickaxe seems to always be the lightest colored one. When I tried this choice on the final jackpot, it actually worked and I got 5 attempts. Also, according to makoto niehe's comment on the "Didn't Pan Out" achievement, the leftmost and rightmost three rocks are guaranteed not to have the jackpot, leaving the 6 in the middle two columns as the only places where the jackpot can be. So just try those six with your 5-attempt pickaxe and you're almost 100% guaranteed to have the jackpot. You'll know you got it when you're notified that you've completed the task for winning the biggest jackpot on this machine.
