You will need a total of 2.3k credits to be able to buy a bot.
The Ship Merchant (red icon up is head) at the station "The Raft" will sell a bot bay for 800 credits and a fire bot for 1.5k credits. You can't buy a bot without a bot bay.
The easiest way to get 2.3k credits is to destroy all asteroids and take every things in the wreck to sell it to the Merchant just beside the Ship Merchant.
