How to unlock the Perfectionist achievement in The Gunstringer - Definitive Guide
Surprisingly only took 3 days of play, about 8 hours in total I think. You do have to get Gold in both the Prologue and Epilogue as well.
Thankfully you don't have to get this all in one playthrough and I would suggest repeating each level until you get gold. I don't think there is any way to see what your highest score to date on an act is, but it does tell you what medal you currently hold.
Using other videos on you tube and my own results I will try and put down the highest silver score I know, the gold score I attained and in brackets I will put the score I think that silver changed to gold. (Please bear in mind this is a guess based on when the medal seemed to change whilst the score was totting up).
Always play on Normal as each hit you take only results in a loss of 10% of your score, rather than reducing it to 0, (Which is what happens on Hardcore). Unless you play really well, your first attempt should be checking where the danger moments are...then your second try will usually result in gold. I have also added how many attempts it took me.
Additional tip from Piyi Piyi 'Remember that the game saves AFTER the screen with "Main menu", "continue" or "retry". I lost a gold medal because I thought that the game saved when you finish a level and I turned off my Xbox'.
Prologue 3,680 Silver: 4,280 Gold (4,000)
Aside from a very long and tedious intro that can't be skipped, this level shouldn't present too much difficulty, this is good as you pretty much have to do a perfect run. The first half is easy, I have split the wavy tube guy into waves, (for each piece of cover you are in), for cover 1 stay in the open and shoot him multiple times quickly, as you move to cover 2 hold your left hand out to the left, (as he attacks the right), then switch to the right side and let him have it, you should then move to cover 3, as you approach he should slam down on the right so as soon as you get there stay on the right hand side to finish him off. (2 attempts)
Act 1-1 34,913 Silver: 43,170 Gold: (40,000 Estimated)
I found this level fairly easy, and when I completed it on Gold I managed it quite easily without getting hit once. The trickiest part for me was the twin guns at the end, but I passed it on the second attempt. (2 attempts)
Act 1-2 37,924 Silver: 59,657 Gold: (55,000 Estimated)
Fairly long level, but again easy, the jumping section at the end could be pretty tricky so take care on the train. (1 attempt)
Act 1-3 24,830 Silver: 28,650 Gold: (27,000 Estimated)
A level with a couple of tricky moments, the tight score means you can't take a hit at all really, don't forget to jump the first two lines of snakes that chase you, the rest are dodging shadows with a gap jump thrown in. The hardest part for me was the sky diving at the end, at the very bottom where the grey pipes are the easiest method for me was left, right then through the gap in the centre, but it is very tight! (5 attempts)
Act 1-4 28,558 Silver: 34,233 Gold: (30,000 Estimated)
For me, the hardest in Act in Episode 1 by far. The real trouble spot is the town in the middle, any hit here and I couldn't get gold...the rest of the level seemed fairly straight forward as you could eliminate threats in advance. In the town you get a shotgun and the way I finally beat it was to use the on screen tips...aim and then shoot by bringing your hand up to your shoulder like you have just experienced recoil, shoot early and you can take them out quickly! (10 attempts)
Act 1-5 13,437 Silver: 18,342 Gold: (15,000 Estimated)
As with most boss fights, use your first attempt to learn the attack patterns, then you shouldn't have too much trouble on the second attempt. (2 attempts)
Act 2-1 23,131 Silver: 42,218 Gold: (30,000 Estimated)
A couple of tricky moments, I have never managed the raft without being hit by a crocodile, and the part where you have to use logs and rocks to cross ravines will require some fine control skills. Other than that, make the most of your tacos and this should not present much of an issue. I got gold taking a hit on the raft and one at the end. (3 attempts)
Act 2-2 1,597 Silver: 4,200 Gold: (3,500 Estimated)
Short level as it's a boss fight, and would be really short if it wasn't for the irritating cut scenes. The jumping at the start is easy, when you are running towards the screen there is only really one tricky bit, after the rocks you jump a gap, then logs start to roll down after you, jump the first three and then do not jump, the 4th will bounce over you. The rest is easy. On the boss, wait while he covers his head, then check to see which of his hands is winding up and dodge the other way, wail on him while stunned...repeat as necessary. (5 attempts)
Act 2-3 17,057 Silver: 19,489 Gold: (19,000 Estimated)
My attempts may look impressive for this paddle boat nightmare, but that is because I played this about 20 times last weekend trying to get the no insurance achievement. I took one hit from the ducks and one on the boat...not even at the hardest part, the tricky bit on the boat is just before it switches from overhead to side view, collision detection seems iffy here, but if you fling your arm out as far right as it can go you should be okay. On the side scrolling part don't try to cut the jumps too fine, you have quite a bit of leeway! (2 attempts...plus training)
Act 2-4 14,687 Silver: 30,727 Gold: (25,000 Estimated)
When I first played the game many moons ago this seemed the hardest level to me, the tricky part is when you ride the statue and have twin guns...as the coaches approach you have to time shooting the TNT, wait till they are nearly level with the explosives, (on my successful run I still took a hit here, but this was the only one). (2 attempts)
Act 2-5 15,784 Silver: 17,057 Gold: (17,000 Estimated)
As with boss one, learn the patterns on your first attempt, I took two hits on my successful run through and just scraped gold. (2 attempts)
Act 3-1 8,857 Bronze: 24,716 Gold: (18,600 Estimated)
Breezed through this one, so I don't have any score other than a bronze from you tube and my gold score...I suffered one hit! (1 attempt)
Act 3-2 26,012 Silver: 39,615 Gold: (38,000 Estimated)
This one pretty much has to be a perfect run as far as I could tell, I took no hits and just scraped it! The first half is easy enough, the second half is the hard bit, but by this time you should be fairly good at the twin guns. (2 attempts)
Act 3-3 12,975 Silver: 14,944 Gold: (14,000 Estimated)
The Dragon, you have to face 5 waves shooting the dragon's fins (?) in between. The first two are easy, the third is the killer (on my best run I still took 2 hits here), the fourth is fast, but not hard and the fifth is always the same, so you can learn it easily. The reason the third wave is tricky is because on some attacks you have to situate yourself in the middle of the screen...the only hint I can give you for this is that the gunstringer looks slightly higher than the middle to me when he passes successfully! (6 attempts)
Act 3-4 17,762 Bronze: 46,212 Gold: (30,000 Estimated)
Although the leeway looks massive it all boils down to one bit, the rope slide where you can get awesomeness detected, again I had tried this many times at the weekend to get this achievement, but actually got it as I was playing for gold. I took no hits and my multiplier was 53! (1 attempt)
Act 3-5 15,004 Silver: 16,686 Gold: (16,000 Estimated)
As usual for a boss, learn on attempt two and hope you pass the next time. I took three hits and still managed gold so not too bad. (3 attempts)
Act 4-1 12,986 Silver: 16,655 Gold: (13,000 Estimated)
Very irritating but short level, requires precision control. I only ever got hit in the middle of the level so my successful run had to be perfect. (3 attempts)
Act 4-2 45,403 Silver: 62,405 Gold: (60,000 Estimated)
Don't let the massive score required put you off, I found this one of the easier levels in the game and I received 2 hits in the blade section. (1 attempt)
Act 4-3 7,634 Bronze: 17,890 Gold: (17,000 Estimated)
Although I found the level really fiddly, involving lots of dodging and jumping and getting hit 4 times, I still managed to pass this with gold first time! Get ready to flail wildly when the ghosts grab you. The fight at the end is very similar in style to the crocodile boss earlier in 2-2. (1 attempt)
Act 4-4 2,438 Bronze: 7,314 Gold: (6,000 Estimated)
I took two hits in this run, and still managed a respectable score...if you do the level perfectly you will get about 9,350 and an achievement. You will easily get this while going for undead and untouchable. (1 attempt)
Act 4-5 9,201 Bronze: 16,461 Gold: (16,000 Estimated)
I already had this one, so I redid it just to check the scoring levels. I found this one of the easier bosses, didn't even need one pass to learn the patterns. Took two hits before scoring commenced and then one hit in the second wave. (1 attempt)
Epilogue 4,361 Gold: (3,000 Estimated)
Passed every time I have played this I think, there are no enemies, it's just a twin gun shooting gallery really...just let 'em have it! (1 attempt)
If you have any higher Silver scores, or lower Gold scores let me know so we can close in on the exact scores required.
Now, you may be extremely tired of playing the game, but I strongly recommend that you attempt the strings of steel achievement as soon as you are done with the perfectionist achievement. The practice you participated in while going for this achievement makes it a breeze...remember to start with level 3-3 as this is by far the hardest. (other than that level I think I only had to restart about 5 times in total...check the tips in the comments on the strings of steel achievement too!)
Thankfully you don't have to get this all in one playthrough and I would suggest repeating each level until you get gold. I don't think there is any way to see what your highest score to date on an act is, but it does tell you what medal you currently hold.

Maybe my tip is a little stupid, but remember that the game saves AFTER the screen with "Main menu", "continue" or "retry". I lost a gold medal because I thought that the game saved when you finish a level and I turned off my Xbox.

Cheers dude, added to the solution.

You are rated on how well you do in an act. To obtain a gold medal you must kill the majority of, if not all, the enemies, and rarely be damaged. Try gaining a hardcore or 2P award(s) to add bonus points. A guide for every level in the game can be found HERE! Thanks to Hoseo22.
