How to unlock the Master Strategist achievement in The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III - Definitive Guide
I'm telling you this because the third story td map can give you a lot of trouble. From the second till fourth wave there are mobs incoming which spawn hellhounds and sometimes they spawn them outside the map where you cant kill them (I tried different characters and skills but it won't work to even hit them) and you have to reset the map. Because of this "glitch" (which also occured in deathtrap) I wasn't able to beat this map yet and wasted a lot of time trying. So what I did was create another character and played the first td map again in order to unlock the achieve.
You can of course beat the third map normally, maybe i got really unlucky but it isn't relevant storywise so you can just skip it and get the achieve this way.
After 2 playthroughs I couldn't find where or how to do this. These are story related missions given to you by the Resistance Commander. Sometimes he has a question mark over him and you have a choice to do it yourself or let him handle it. If you decide to let him do it the mission is lost and why I never found them. Once you decide to handle it yourself the mission will show up in the location roster in the Portal in the center of the room. If you fail one you will not get to retry unless you start the story over. If you have no other reason to replay the whole story again you can start over and play just to the point of getting the first one, which you can get to in less than an hour. Rinse and repeat til you've done it 3x or if still need get the situational cheevos for Tower Defense.
There are three Tower Defense missions in the game, and each unlocks at a different point in the story. You'll be sent to talk with Petrov in the Secret Lair, and have a choice to tackle the mission yourself (play the TD mission) or send troops to take care of it (skip the TD mission). Obviously, accept the mission all three times.
You don't have to do the missions immediately upon accepting them, they can actually sit in your quest log for the entire story and you can do them after. They each have their own entry in the teleporter. Once you turn the mission in, you can no longer play that TD mission though, so if you need to get the two other TD-related achievements, be sure to replay them until successful before turning in the final mission. Both of those are easiest to do on the first mission though.
