This isn't nearly as daunting as I thought it was going to be. It says chest, but corpses', barrel's, or any container that you have to hit 
to loot counts! Do dont pass anything up, and you will have it in no time.

this will unlock with multiple characters i just starting a new character and got 50chests and 500kills straight away

You will get this during normal play so long as you loot every chest/barrel/corpse/whatever you come across. There are at least double the required amount in the game.
