How to unlock the Extreme Avatar achievement in The Legend of Korra - Definitive Guide

You need to finish normal in order to access extreme, your progress carries over do NOT press new game, continue and from there you can choose extreme once the normal is completed.

You can complete all chapters in any order but keep in mind you must complete the final chapter to get the final medal (overall). I cleared final chapter before the rest and had to redo it after the other ones were completed.

Here are my general tips on the game, if you struggle anywhere keep in mind you can always buy the avatar state and the game has tons of checkpoints so buy them if stuck and use them to get from one checkpoint to the next one if needed, unlimited chi is extremely strong I used wind magic most of the time pressing cn_Y no one can touch you. (if you can land your first hit).

Harder parts:
Chapter 5
With Naga take it slow, by that i mean when the mechs are putting up obstacles dodge them left to right, jump when he put a long obstacle but only single jump, you don't want to double jump or extreme jump with wind magic because you might land on a obstacle and can't do nothing. Spam fireballs when you can and whenever a mech goes for a hit I dodged cn_RT right or left doesn't matter and keep your finger on the trigger for as long as he is crouched, I died several times just tapping the cn_RT.

Chapter 7
I did this 2nd try only using 1,2 punch (cn_X cn_X) combos and rolling out immediatelycn_RT, and don't go hitting when some are on the ground hitting you with wires from the ground wait until none are anymore, take it slow patience is key here.

Chapter 5 took me forever. I felt it was easier to spam fireballs at the rocks the robots layed down. Instead of jumping.

I also found it quicker to spam fireball on my 2nd playthrough but if the mech starts moving left or right (while going backwards) your fireballs arn't gonna do much so I would still suggest just wait it out jump and dodge its safer that way or alternatively fireball if hes only going backwards and not any side but if he starts goin on a side make sure you are ready to dodge and jump

Wow, I was unaware that you could shoot more than 1 fireball per activation of the skill. Seems obvious now, but silly.

Also, in chapter 7 I found that if you spam the guard button you should block nearly all of the attacks, and you'll be pretty much guard locked until you evade out of the way and attack. Seemed to work pretty well.

So I had some problems with the Naga part, only managed to get the mechs down to around half health. Decided to switch out the Healing talisman for the Shadow Fist one, don't know if the fire ball actually counts as two hits but I got it on the first try after this, really melted the mechs by spamming my fireballs. So if you are having problems give this a try.

Overall, this isn't much of a challenge. I only had problems twice, and that was with Naga fighting the mech suits in Chapter 5, and when Korra is huge and fighting the mech suits in Chapter 7.

General tips I can provide, are to use the unlimited Chi talisman, along with the one that doubles your attack but halves your health, the talisman that constantly heals you, and the one that prevents you from being staggered when your Chi is full (your Chi will always be full as long as you use the one that gives you unlimited Chi). Also make sure to level up your elements to pretty high levels before starting this, as their level up bonuses will be helpful greatly.

For the most part, just dodge everything that attacks, and use Fire when you can since it's the strongest. Using Fire, everything will die pretty fast for most of the game. When you're surrounded, switch to Air and the tornadoes will deal lots of damage to everything. If any enemies are out of reach, switch to Water and attack them from a distance.

Do you carry over your character from playing on Normal into the Extreme difficulty or do you start over with a fresh character?

Everything carries over as long as you select "Continue" from the main menu. Press "New Game" will start you on a fresh save.

Extreme Difficulty is unlocked by completing the Story Mode on Normal Difficulty. To replay the game while keeping all of your progress from the last playthrough, select "Continue" from the Title Menu screen. You can change the difficulty at any time by pressing or on the Chapter Select screen. All of your progress, collections and items have been carried over, this also includes your bending element levels and Spirit Energy. Extreme isn't difficult at all because the Talismans can make it very easy.

Below is a recommended talisman that you should use to complete and breeze through Extreme:

Talisman: Full Charge, HP 1/2

Description: Your Chi is fully charge at all times, but health is halved. Recommended for Extreme mode.

Talisman: Charge Armor

Description: Prevent all stuns, staggers and knockbacks when your Chi is fully charges.

Talisman: Shadow Fist

Description: Adds extra hits to your attacks, doing more damage.

Talisman: Healing

Description: Slowly regenerates health while equipped, you'll feel much safer while wearing this.

The above items will do exactly what they say and they all fit perfectly together, your Chi will be fully charge at all times making your bending styles stronger with extra effects/attacks and you'll be immune to all stuns/staggers/knockbacks because your Chi is always full. With the code of , the Shadow Fist item will help you deal extra attacks/hits in your combos. Meaning that your attack power is increased to practically POW x2 without no side effects against you and lastly, your health will slowly regenerate overtime due to the Healing item. While you're in the middle of combos/counters/finishers/dodging your health will be regenerating lost health meter.

Useful tips to keep in mind:

  1. Use the Air bending style to defeat a majority of every enemy type. It has the strongest and biggest area effect damage that can quickly eliminate all enemies surrounding Korra.
  2. If you're taking too much damage and or feel you're about to get killed with the next incoming attack. Quickly press and equip either the Healer's Water or the Katara's Oasis Water item in Korra's Room. Now, when you exit Korra's Room quickly consume the Healer's Water on whichever you placed it on or if you used the Oasis Water and gotten killed the moment you receive the incoming attack. You'll be revived with full health.
  3. Don't button mash every boss fight recklessly. Attempt to complete the counters against them. If you're struggling to get counters against bosses, I recommend you temporarily replace the Talisman: Shadow Fist with the "Talisman: Two Edged Blade" while in the mist of battle. This will help you trigger a counter attack when you take damage from an enemy.
  4. Buy the Awakening items from the Spirit Shop. This item will automatically let Korra enter Avatar State for a brief while. Use it to get out of tough situations.

However, there is only one entire section of the game that is difficult on Extreme which is Chapter Five: Fire And Ice ending where Korra will ride on Naga to defeat 3 Mech Bosses. This is the hardest part of the game because you've got to do this section perfectly without getting hit, it'll take a few tries before it becomes frustrating but is still very doable.

See below for a video and some tips to complete Naga's Boss fight:

Tips to complete without getting hit:

  1. First of all, the rocks/boulders are completely random. I recommend you don't spam the button to jump with Earth style, only use this to jump over the long boulders blocking Naga's running path completely.
  2. Do not use the button for Air style at all. It's completely useless and will not help you in this boss fight. It’s not even good for dodging the rocks and boulders.
  3. Always activate the Water style's barrier shield at all times. This stops you from taking damage from an arm swing attack or gun. It will save your life and make you take more hits than you normally would. You use this ability by pressing .
  4. Spam / a lot while fighting these Mechs. It'll deal moderate damage but will eventually get the job done. Don't be reckless while swiping at the Mechs.
  5. Use the Fire style ability to burn through the bosses' health bar faster. These fireballs can also be used to destroy rocks/boulders but don't rely on this ability for that purpose. Use this ability by pressing the button.
  6. Get used to dodging with the because it'll help you avoid all the Mech's attacks.
  7. Stay in the center at all costs while keeping an eye out for the Mech's left/right arms. If the left arm is going to swing at you, then you go right. Same thing applies with the right arm swings at you, then you go left. This will help you live longer without getting hit. Continue spamming during these attack arm swing attacks at you.

You will need to have completed the game on Normal difficulty in order to unlock Extreme. The step from Normal to Extreme is downplayed by an increased prowess in your character by purchasing talismans, leveling up your elements (gaining more combos), and understanding the concepts of the game better.

I want to put the four best talismans used for extreme in a picture ahead of the list so you know what you should buy first when you have the spirit gems to afford it.

Top is Full Charge, HP 1/2 - Your Chi is fully charged at all times, but your health is halved. Recommended for Extreme mode.
Left is Healing - Slowly regenerates health while equipped. You'll feel much safer while wearing this.
Right is Charge Armor - Prevents all stuns, staggers, and knock-backs when your Chi is fully charged.
Bottom is POW x2, HP 1/2 - Halves your health but doubles your attack power! No one will be able to stop you with this!

I will list some of the biggest tips and tricks I found in list format:

  • Do not waste your time trying to counter any enemies unless it is a part of the required tutorial. Counter on extreme is not for certain and will end up costing you more precious life points. So what do you do then? DODGE!
  • During extreme your fingers should be glued to the and for attacking and some lonely finger on so you can dodge, dodge, and dodge some more.
  • One of the big areas for stress and frustration will in Chapter Five when using Naga and fighting the three mech tanks. It took me a long time to get a system down that worked and hopefully I can save you some frustration.
    • There are a few major things you should take note of. The first is that you should put up the water shield at all times during the battle. This is done by tapping .
    • Second major piece of knowledge to have is that you will dodge() almost every single attack the tanks launch at you. This is literally the only way to calm your nerve and survive long enough to get a streak going. Being as this is extreme, Naga only has a single bar of life.
    • Do not try and coordinate fire attacks while dodging their slam attacks that you must either jump or move over for. You will need to be on your best game to avoid hitting even one of the close to 100 ice blocks they will send your way.
  • The other big area of contention is during chapter seven when fighting the three mech suits as big spirit Korra. For this the only suggestion I have is to dodge and run away to regain health using the talisman combo above and to focus on one mech at a time using only your quick attacks.

Keep these little tricks in mind and you should be able to fly through the extreme playthrough without too many problems.

First, to unlock the EXTREME difficulty level - in other words, the Extreme difficulty level, you need to beat the game on the NORMAL difficulty level - that is, at the Normal difficulty level. The tactics for completing this mode are quite simple. First : Pump up all four elements to the maximum, this will make your task easier. Second : Use the entire arsenal of Korra’s techniques, namely dodges , counterattacks and so on - in general, everything that can help you in battles - because there will be twice as many opponents, they will also be many times smarter and more agile, which will not be a weak obstacle in your way. Third : Use the following equipment for Korra - Talisman OW x2, HP 1/2 ; Talisman:Full Charge , HP1/2 ; Talisman:Charge Armor ; Talisman:Healing.Purchasing all these items will require you to spend about 600,000 in-game currency.

In extreme games you need to play from the global map where you can select chapters there by pressing L1 Choose the difficulty at the top to extreme. Under no circumstances should you start the story again on extreme difficulty, otherwise all progress will be lost.

I had a problem with the final boss - too little health and too many one-shots. I solved the problem by removing the double damage talisman and replacing it with SHADOW FIST . With this layout I killed him on my second attempt.
#============
The moment where it is necessary to arrange a safari for three robots on Naga (chapter five) also caused some difficulties in the moments where they begin to build barriers. At first I tried to destroy them or speed up time. Useless. In the end, I settled on the fact that when obstacles begin to appear, you need to watch the robot’s hands - if it makes a block on all three lanes, then when jumping over it you need to watch the next block - if it is the same transverse block, then you need to use force in the jump the ground so as not to touch the surface. All other blocks can be navigated without problems.
#============
The moment in the seventh chapter where you have to kill robots with your spirit also made me sweat. For him, I had to remove the talisman for x2 damage with the talisman for a full charge of energy (it’s still useless there) and kite the robots by jumping for about 10 minutes. Otherwise, they kill too quickly.

The most difficult moment is riding Naga against three robots. Apart from the occasional sticking of robots between attacks (and then another trap in the form of a stone on the road, which, due to this sticking, “catch up” and rushes towards Korra at a speed of 88 miles per hour), then everything is decided by a good reaction and learning the movements of the robots before attacks. Well, a couple of nuances:

Since you have one life, try to be protected by the shield all the time, because there are no checkpoints after each robot.

Air acceleration + double jump = a very long and high jump that allows you to fly over even the tallest boulders. But try not to use it, because a horizontal stone may be waiting for you when you land. Just keep this in mind.

DO NOT use claw attacks. Even if the fire is on recharge - no, no, and no again. To inflict any damage with them, you will have to hit them often, and this is fraught with extra frames that can be useful when dodging. Only by fire
