How to unlock the Jill of all Trades achievement in The Legend of Korra - Definitive Guide

*For those of you that may prefer a text guide.

This is a guide for all of the tutorials in The Legend of Korra. This guide will list them by chapter and order they show up and should not be too hard to follow.

If you miss a single tutorial on your first playthrough, you will need to start an entirely new game. If you begin a new game, you will be erasing all your story progress and inventory items that you had on your previous playthrough. I would recommend this achievement be the last if you have missed it on your first playthrough. If you die and have not completed a tutorial then you have missed your chance to complete that tutorial on that playthrough(needs confirmation).

These are the tutorials that need to be completed in order to get this achievement. The achievement should unlock after you go into the Avatar State during Chapter 8 if you have not missed a single tutorial. For me, the achievement unlocked right after I had started a new playthrough and completed the Lock On tutorial during Chapter 1's Pro-Bending match.

Chapter 1

Spirit Battle
-Light Attack: cn_X
-Heavy Attack: cn_Y
-Jump: cn_A
-Switch Bending: cn_LB/cn_RB

Pro-Bending: 3 vs Korra
-Combo: cn_X/cn_Y
-Dodge: cn_RT
-Guard/Counter: cn_LT
-Lock On: Push cn_LS

Chapter 2

Alleys
-Guard/Counter: cn_LT

Chapter 3

Air Temple Island
-Guard/Counter: cn_LT
-Lock On: Push cn_LS
-Charge Attack: Hold cn_X/cn_Y

Chapter 4

Mech Battle
-Guard/Counter: cn_LT

Chapter 5

Chapter 6

Chapter 7

Chapter 8

Final Battle
-Avatar Sate: cn_LB+cn_RB

If you have performed all of these tutorials as they pop up, you will earn this 30G achievement.

If you give me negative feedback please state why so I can improve on my future solutions.

Edit: If you do not want to lose your save, you can try out a cloud save trick that takes advantage of the local and cloud saves. You can check out Dark Shaman 13's comment for the correct steps to ensure that you keep your items and story progress.

Well I did this and lost all my save data, but w/e was my last achievement anyway. The game didn't visibly show synch to cloud at all, so I just assumed it did which it apparently didn't

When you use the cloud method, do you need to complete the entire game before going back online ? Or only to the point where you missed a tutorial ?

By Wicelow on 19 Jan 2016 14:13
Hey Wicelow, you are not required to complete the entire game over again. You are only required to complete up until the point of the tutorial you missed while you are offline. After that, just reconnect to the internet and overwrite your local save with your cloud save.

Good luck with the achievement smile hopefully your missed tutorial is early on in the game.

Just did it that way with no luck...
Played offline until the point I missed a tutorial the 1st time, saved then went back online. Synced with the cloud save. No cheevo.
So I did a quick run of the entire game offline in casual again, got the cheevo... But now there is no syncing and my "completed" save is gone.
Well, I don't really care because that was my last cheevo but the cloud system is a bit weird.

OMG I FINALLY GOT THIS TO POP! This was my last achievement so I said fuck it and started a new game on Casual. I did the first 4 tutorials during the opening Spirit Battle: Light Attack, Heavy Attack, Jump and Switch Bending. Nothing.
Then it moved onto the Pro Bending match 3 vs. 1. I did the combo, nothing. Dodge, nothing. Guard Counter. ACHV POPPED!

So this achievement DEFINITELY carries over. Luckily!! I'm at 100% now and spent a total of 3 minutes on my "new playthrough."

This is the only solution I'm giving a +1 because you listed all the tutorials out. HUGE help.

Also to note, I played and replayed all those levels listed on Casual, Normal and even Extreme and didn't see ANY of the tutorials pop up ever. That's what forced me to start over.

I played this on normal first and then extreme then casual... never saw the tutorial for avatar state during the final boss fight until I started a new game on casual and ran through the whole game again.

Just a note about deleting your game and starting over: You don't need to lose your progress forever as long as you have a cloud save (which is automatic if you're connected to the internet). On Xbox One, go to Settings and select Network and then Go Offline. Then, start up Korra. The system will try to sync your game to the cloud, but just stay off-line and start a new game. This game progress will save to your hard drive, but it cannot overwrite your cloud save. Run through the game on casual and make sure you get all of your tutorials. Once you complete the game, quit out and go back into settings to turn your network connection back on. Start Korra while online and the system will tell you there's a discrepancy between your local save and your cloud save. It will require you to choose one. Choose the cloud save, which will overwrite your local save, restoring all of your hard-earned progress. ONE NOTE: It seems that the achievement will only pop once you're back online, but if you've met the criteria it will pop as soon as you reconnect to the internet. Hope this helps!

This is for anybody who missed this achievement on your first playthrough like myself. So what you are going to want to do is save this achievement for last. Once you have all the other achievements, start a New Game on Casual. Now I was lucky enough to have missed one of the early tutorial prompts which was when you are Pro Bending against a team of 3 by yourself. As soon as I put in the missed tutorial prompt, the achievement popped. There is no way to know for sure which tutorial prompt you missed but I bet it is going to be one of the Pro Bending ones. Again, save this achievement for last because you LOSE ALL YOUR SAVE DATA which sucks! I hope this helps clarify for people who missed this achievement on their first playthrough and give you hope you won't have to do another complete playthrough.

* Chapter Select does not work. I tried on casual, normal, and extreme. Once you play your first playthrough with the tutorial prompts, you will no longer receive them again even if you try changing difficulty of a specific mission.

Chapter Select does not work sadly. You have to start a new game. :( So save this achievement for last.

I seem to have missed this one too, but my question is: how? Are there sections you can skip that would cause the tutorials not to trigger? Was there an option to disable them that I accidentally activated?

This was the last achievement I got. I could NOT get it through chapter select, although I tried many times. I did get it during the pro-bending tutorial. Also, when I was trying to get it through chapter select, I did receive a couple of tutorial messages along the way, which then did not appear again. Meaning this: if you don't have it yet, do chapters 2, 3, 4, and 8 in order to get all those ones, and then do the pro-bending one in a new game. Otherwise that one specifically will not show up (I believe it is actually the "lock on" prompt in particular)

I could also not get it through Chapter Select, but the Go Offline method worked and I got the achievement. But I DID lose all my progress :( I followed all the steps in the text and my save file is wiped. RIP 100% save :(((

Sorry people are having trouble with the cloud save restore process. I promise that it works. I used this method myself. Just to reiterate: when you go back online and are asked which file to use, make sure you choose the cloud save, which also says "older". The local save will say "newer" which might be tripping people up. You need to choose the "older" file. Not saying this happened to the previous commenters. Just trying to figure out why I was able to do this and others are struggling. If anyone has any ideas or has also successfully done this please comment!

Thanks for the answer. This is exactly what I did: I closed the game. Went to settings, network and go offline. Closed the settings and opened up the game.

It launched like normal, nothing weird happend (no message about the game not being able to read my cloud data or something like that) so I start a new game on casual and play though it entirely. After that, I back out to the title screen and close the game.

I open up the settings, network, go online. Then I launch the game and did not get any message saying which save I wanted to use. The game launched like normal, no messages on screen. :(

Was I suppose to be signed in to my profile while doing this? That's the only thing I can think of that might have caused a problem...

I'm always signed in. It's automatic for me. When do you actually sign in? I'm assuming that the cloud save check happens automatically whenever you sign in and start a game. Is cloud saving for gold subscribers only? Are you gold or silver?

Messing with Cloud Saves is always going to be a tricky method. Nothing is ever "guaranteed" when it comes to cloud saving/saves. You run the risk of losing all your data while not obtaining the achievement you are trying for. There is no dlc for this game and I highly doubt there will be. Using my method is 100% and I've read on another solution comments that someone got this achievement via Chapter Select AFTER a patch. I played this game when it first came out and finished it within days. I have no confirmation that this is true or even works. You can definitely try Chapter Select and if that doesn't work, my method is 100% for obtaining the achievement. Just remember, messing around with cloud saves is a risk and does not always work out. Use at your own discretion.

I agree that using the chapter select method is the preferred method for this achievement. When I did this it was before chapter select was a known viable option. However, the cloud save method works when done correctly. I have used this method several times, including when I used it to unlock an otherwise unobtainable collectibles achievement in D4. Obviously if you don't need to delete your local save to unlock an achievement, that's ideal. But I would not hesitate to use this method of it was my only hope of unlocking something without starting over on a brand new file. If you're doing that anyway, attempting this cloud save trick couldn't hurt.

That's weird! When I used Chapter Select I did not get any tutorials in my top left corner, so I had to start a new game anyway... I just did the Cloud trick again, and it does not seem to work. I do have other updates installed on my Xbox than the rest of you (because I'm in the Preview Program), maybe that's it? I really don't know. I do have the feeling that all my saves are on my hard drive, because on my Xbox One, I've never had confirmation that my saves are stored in the Cloud, but on my Xbox 360 I do know the saves are on there for sure because you have to select the Cloud option every time it reads you memory.

I believe when you are doing the Pro Bending Tutorial that if you knock out all the opponents before doing all the tutorial prompts that they are considered skipped.

THIS ACHIEVEMENT IS MISS-ABLE

In order to unlock this achievement you need complete all tutorials in the game. They appear in white font right below your heath and chi gauges on the left of the screen. Once you complete them they are crossed out with a red mark letting you know you completed it. If you don't do them all in one play through you need to start a new game. I missed it and it only took me 1 1/2 hours to run through it on casual so its not so bad.

There are tutorials in chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 & 8. Also, in multiple sections of said levels.

Below is a great video by LukaLament, all credit goes to him,

Hope this helps anyone who was unsure how to unlock this.

***EDIT: According to anomalystic777 he got this via chapter select so it seems it was patched. Try that before playing through again.

Ok I have no idea how y'all got it via chapter select, but I tried everything, even went through every tutorial chapter twice and came up empty, so I ended up starting a new game.

The one I was missing was the "hold X/Y" charge attack tutorial on the first water barrier in Chapter 3. You cannot get this through chapter select, as once you break that barrier in your initial playthrough, it doesn't reappear no matter what difficulty you try to replay it on. Unless I was missing something but I don't know what I could have possibly missed.

I earned this when I got the tutorial prompt for activating the Avatar State near the end of the game.

I do know I unlocked this without seeing the tutorial for how to airbend with Naga, so either that doesn't count or this achievement is just worded weirdly.

Somewhat Missable on your first playthrough

This trophy is kind of somewhat missable on your first playthrough of the game. It's missable because you're required to complete all the tutorials as they appear throughout the game, however, these will not appear again even while playing on Extreme or even Causal Difficulties. This means you'll have to restart a new game to get this trophy. Now the good news is that the game does remember the tutorials you have completed from any previous playthrough. The bad news is you'll have to reset all or Story Mode progression, this means you'll lose all your collectible items, Spirit Energy, equipment and maxed out bending levels.

The trophy should have unlocked on Chapter Eight but if you're one of the players that didn't get this trophy. Here's what you should do:

  1. Finish collecting all 25 Vanity Items as well as any other trophies before moving onto tutorials.
  2. Backup your save file with either cloud save or a USB flash drive.
  3. Start a new game on either Casual or Normal Difficulty mode.
  4. Continue to clear all the tutorials as they appear and eventually it should unlock.

Now after doing the above and you still don't have the trophy. Repeat the process again (just start a new game again, Step 3) and it'll unlock guaranteed on the third tutorial playthrough near the very start of the game; maybe during the Pro-Bending match for most players. Here is my personal theory to why this happens:

While playing through the game and attempting these tutorials there is a one tutorial that is hard to get checked off, that tutorial is a Guard/Counter found in Chapter Three. For some reason it doesn't get checked off and oddly enough the game has about 3 different Guard/Counter tutorials in the game. In general I believe this one doesn't get counted because it never went through or registered for me despite doing it but it still carries over in your playthroughs. That why when you play the Pro-Bending match in the Chapter One, the trophy will end up unlocking for you.

A complete list of tutorials can be found below:

Chapter One: A New Era Begins
- Light Attack
- Heavy Attack
- Jump
/ - Switch Bending

Pro Bending
/ - Combo
- Dodge
- Counter
- Lock On

Chapter Two: Powerless
- Guard/Counter

Chapter Three: Battle For Air Temple Island
- Guard/Counter (this one doesn't get checked off for some reason)
[Hold] / - Charged Attack
- Lock On

Chapter Four: Counter Attack
- Guard/Counter

Chapter Eight: Old Foe

Tutorials in this game come in the form of button prompts listed on the top left corner of your screen.
Cleared tutorials will be overlaid with a red checkmark.
They do only display for a certain period of time, so if you managed to have one prompt fade out before you could checkmark it then you can try exiting and continuing from title screen to redo it.
Follow the list at the bottom carefully.

If you haven't popped this trophy by the time you cleared the game, then you must have missed a prompt.

The only way to retry after prompts have shown is to start a new game which would erase all previous progress.
Luckily the most missable ones are the ones in the first 3 chapters due to the quantity of them, so on Casual they shouldn't take long to go through, but be warned that if not in first 3 then you may need to go through the whole game again.

IMPORTANT: For starting a new game to retry tutorials, you will thus need to backup your save first.
For the PS4, there are two methods:

1. Cloud save:
If you are PlayStation Plus member, your saves will be automatically uploaded periodically to the cloud (unless you turned that option off).
Highlight Legend of Korra in your games row or library and press Options. Choose Upload/Download Saved Data.
You will see System Storage copy on the left and Online Storage copy on the right.
Check the timestamps and if you need to update the cloud copy, choose Upload All on the System Storage (aka left) side to upload your system storage copy to the cloud.
Then go to System -> Network and uncheck Connect to the Internet.
That will prevent your PS4 from uploading while you play.
PS4 does not depend on the internet to timestamp and log your saves.
You will have to go into Trophies section after you reconnect to sync your trophies with the server, though.

2. USB stick:
If you aren't a Playstation Plus member, or you just want another backup, you can use an USB stick.
Plug it into your PS4's USB slot and go to Settings -> Application Saved Data Management -> Saved Data in System Storage.
Then choose Copy to USB Storage Device.
Select your Legend of Korra save, press Options, and copy.

Be sure turn back on the internet connection and choose Trophies to sync your trophies and to download or copy back to system storage to restore your original save afterwards!

Missable Achievement that will require reset of game to achieve if missed in first playthrough.

Tutorials are the little guides from the game that you get as you play for the first time. They appear in a checklist format on the left hand side of the screen and become checked off with a red check when completed. I urge you to be very careful when playing for the first time when you have tutorials up on your screen. Absolutely ensure that you have done what it asks or else you will need to reset your entire game to rectify the mistake as I had to. If you follow each tutorial properly you will unlock the achievement during chapter eight when you are told how to go into the avatar state for the first time. If it does not unlock for you while you are in the avatar state you have missed something and will be forced to reset your progress at the end.

While you do have to reset your game to get the achievement be sure you have finished everything else before doing so. Also, you will only have to play to the point in the game where you missed the tutorial. For me I missed the combo tutorial in the very first pro-bender fight.

Many thanks to LukaLaurent for the video.

Missable Achievement that will require reset of game to achieve if missed in first playthrough.

Possible solution for Xbox 360 only thanks to Tim O:

"If you miss this achievement on your first run, you can avoid starting a new game and erasing your progress simply by selecting another storage device when you launch the game. I moved my original save data to a USB drive, and when I started the game from the title screen, I created a new file on my hard drive and proceeded to beat the game on casual, completing the tutorials. Once I got the achievement, I deleted that save from my hard drive and moved the old one back from the flash drive."

Throughout the passage , you will be given various tips and instructions , but you must follow them without missing a single one. This includes the usual instructions, such as which button to hit, change the element or jump, and also includes advice from Jinora. The last instruction will be to enter the avatar state in the battle with the last boss, just press what will be shown on the screen, namely L1 + R 1 and that's it - the achievement is yours. And also, I advise you to go through on an easy level, because when you go through the usual instructions again, there will be no more, maximum advice from Jinora, nothing more, I also advise you not to die, because the instructions also disappear, so first buy what you need in the store, equip what you bought in Korra’s room and that’s it , otherwise you will stupidly miss this achievement and then you will have to go through everything again from scratch.

The trophy is cumulative, so after collecting all the trophies, you can start a new game and “collect more.”
It is important to carefully perform all training movements.

I missed it (like the person whose video I watched) on the second level, after the first serious magician a hint immediately appears, and if you leave the “arena” it disappears.
