The LEGO Movie Videogame

If you don't get The Special on your first run during story mode, you should easily get it on your mop up runs during freeplay. Turn on those stud multipliers while focusing on gathering all the pants and golden instructions and you should be set. Since skepta11 already laid out the locations of the freeplay level locations so well in his Everything is Awesome! achievement solution, I will recite them here.

1) Bricksburg Construction: Found in Bricksburg - To the left of the construction entrance.
2) Escape from Bricksburg: Found in Bricksburg - Found at the top of the Police Station to the right of the Construction Yard.
3) Flatbush Gulch: Found in Bricksburg - To the right of the police station in the alleyway.
4) Flatbush Rooftops: Found in the Old West - In the center of the level.
5) Escape from Flatbush: Found in the Old West - In front of the train in the back right, behind the graveyard.
6) Welcome to Cloud Cuckoo Land: Found in the Old West - In the graveyard on the right side.
7) Attack on Cloud Cuckoo Land: Found in Cloud Cuckoo Land - Straight down from the portal.
8) Escape from Cloud Cuckoo Land: Found in Cloud Cuckoo Land - On the island on the right.
9) The Depths: Found in Cloud Cuckoo Land - From the portal, on the first island on the right has a bridge you can go down to a new area, in the new area on the far side.
10) Infiltrate Octan Tower: Found in Cloud Cuckoo Land - From the portal, on the first island on the right has a bridge you can go down to a new area, to the right.
11) Put That Thing on the Thing: Found in Octan Tower - After opening the big red and black door, to the left
12) Broadcast News: Found in Octan Tower - After opening the big red and black door head down the hallway on the right and it is in the next room.
13) Back From Reality: Found in Bricksburg - In the construction yard with the hole in the ground.
14) Bricksburg Attack: Found in Bricksburg - In the Construction Yard, to the left of the police station in the center of the area.
15) The Final Showdown: Found in Bricksburg - In the Construction Yard, on the far right, right in front of the target.

Super easy to do with the Stud multipliers (Red Bricks). I recommend looking at my "Business Business Business" achievement guide with the locations of the Red Bricks. Once you have 2x you're already set for a guaranteed The Special on every level. All of them stacked will get you The Special within a second or two on every level.

**You can save & exit once you have The Special award, so you don't have to play through the whole level**

To get "The Special" in a level, you'll have to collect the minimum studs needed to 100% fill the stud bar at the top which appears every time you collect studs. You can use extras by finding Red Bricks in levels, however they cost more studs to buy and use them, especially the Invincibility and Stud Multipliers. After you collect the extras, you'll have to go to certain HUB areas to purchase them. You'll have to grind for a lot of studs if you want all the extras though. Alternatively, you can try to turn levels upside down for studs.
