How to unlock the Silent Hunter achievement in The Long Dark - Definitive Guide

This one is pretty straightforward. From the time you spawn in a new Survival Mode game, you must go 50 full days without firing a shot from a firearm.

For ease and simplicity, my recommendation would be to do this on Pilgrim difficulty on the Mystery Lake map. It has plenty of ice fishing holes, deer carcasses, and rabbit clearings, and cat tail stalks for sources of food that don't require the use of a rifle.

To be crystal clear, you cannot fire a firearm, period. Even missed shots will negate the achievement. Presumably this also includes the flare gun, but I am not certain. Archery is not a problem, as are stones, so you can bow and rabbit hunt to your heart's content.

I recommend doing this concurrently with the Ready for When the SHTF and Living Off the Land achievements.

Don't know if this is glitched or not. I got to day 51 and it didn't give me this or ready for when shtf. Nevermind, I was looking at daily logs and not stats

Survivor Mode only.
The criteria for this achievement is the FIRST 50 days so if you fired any weapons in the first few days then go without them for 50 days u wont get the achievement

You are still allowed to hunt however you can only use bows, snares or fishing tackle.

The flare gun is also classed as a firesrm so dont fire that.

You can very easily reach day by surviving on snared rabbits, just remember to keep resetting the snares, they should always look like when you first place them down, if they dont they need resetting.

If you are lucky enough to find a hacksaw then fishing is probably the easist way to survive as you'll be able to get lots of scrap metal for the hooks, however I prefer snaring rabbits. ALthough I much prefered snaring rabbits as fishing is pretty isolated

Also remember to check the Hunters blinds that are dotted about, I collected 4 Bows, the arrows are re-usable allthough they degrade. i was able to take down a Moose in 3 arrows and get 30 kilo of meat, and its hide to craft a satchel and get an extra 5kilo carry boost.

The achievement will unlock on day 50

Pilgrim makes this achievement trivial, other than that simply don't use firearms (any of the Revolver or Rifle variants) . Store them in your main base or camp until the first 50 days are over and you've got the achievement and then shoot to your hearts content.

The distress pistol counts as a fire arm.

I recommend you do this the first 50 days of your survival mode, especially if you start in a village like Milton or coastal highway. Firearms include Rifles and Distress Pistols, not Bows - which means you can shoot arrows! Note: Missing your target, still counts as firing! If you find a Rifle, take it to your home/camp/safe place and leave it there, it's heavy (4 KG) no need to carry that around without being allowed to shoot it.

Note: Even though you're allowed to shoot Arrows and use Stones or Snares to kill rabbits, I recommend you not to do this for the first 25 days so you can get the Pacifist trophy.
