The Long Dark (UP)

These are missions that send you to various points on the map. These spots are marked for you (unlike Survival mode), so you can do them on your way to quest locations. You get some good loot from these, so they are worth following for more than just the achievement.

The first Local Legend is in the Community Center. As you go in, turn to the left to the door off the main room. In that bathroom, there are some supplies and the Sasquatch book. This quest ends in a cave where you'll find a warm Wolf Coat.

The second Local Legend is in the Thomson Store across the road from the Community Center, and gives you a Moose Satchel that lets you carry an additional 11 pounds. On the left side of the counter, you'll find the book about the Glowing Cave. (Make sure you get the note from the bulletin board, and search the backpack on the floor for the bunker quest line for later collectibles). To get to this, use a lantern when you go in the cave on the map and go down the ramp. As you continue, you'll see a hole on the right that you need to crawl through. On the other side is a waterfall; go through it.

The third Local Legend is in the Draft Dodger's Cabin on a shelf. This is for the Ghost Stag, and gives you Rabbitskin Mitts. Find the clearing near Three Strikes Homestead, and hide in the snow shelter on the ground. (There's a collectible note in a nearby shed in this area.)

The fourth one is The Big One. This is found in the bunker just south of Molly's Barn and Heartbreak Bridge. Look under the vent on the floor. The reward for this is a massive fish, if you want to keep it.

You'll know when you reach the point of no return so that you can look for these before you go there.
