On your journeys you will come across a "friendly" alien that calls himself "friendship mizzurani", he will normally give you a present of a EM tank. if you look closely this tank has a purple worm sticking out, using it infects one of your crew members and it will spread through the ship.
Use it when you are close to earth so the infected person is not yet spreading it, then reach earth.
Another method is the following - if you dont use the EM tank, the mizzurani will follow you and crash into a planet and ask for help, if you visit that planet the pilot gets infected. I recommend that less because you will do this probably early on and with that infect the whole ship.
