So I thought it worth mentioning that you do not necessarily have to do this achievement using a character attack. I actually got this just now using one of the mounted ballistas at the beginning of my heroic playthrough.
If you're going to do this with a ballista...
About halfway through Fornost (chapter 1, part 13) you run into a mage who casts a big red bubble around a ballista, and you have to rush up through a long corridor to go kill them up close and personal. Once you do so, you have to pull a lever to open the door below you and Farin comments about how it's jammed and will take a while to open.
From here you are meant to mount the ballista and a bunch of those weak goblin enemies will pour over the wall at the opposite end of the corridor. I unloaded at them while they all stood around waving their arms in the air, but it may well work shortly after while they bunch up and run at you as well. If you don't get it then just quit the game and you'll respawn back before having to kill the mage and can try again.
The dwarf defense at the end of Mount Gundabad also isn't a bad spot to get this done because entire waves of enemies consist of what are basically wretches from Gears of War, being the weakest enemies in the game.
It may also be worth noting that this may not be possible in a normal or easy playthrough. For some reason the damage output on literally everything is multiplied several times on heroic, so the ballista may not do enough damage beforehand.
Should you not be in a good position to get at a ballista...
Eredan (the Dunedain ranger) is the toughest to get this done with because he has no AOE attacks, but he does have a + spin attack when dual wielding and a horizontal arc attack when using a two-hander. It's not impossible, but it's highly unlikely you'll ever get it done before the legendary playthrough.
Andriel (the elf mage) is very easy to get this achievement with but you're going to have to be level 15 or so to get it done, and that's assuming you put all your points into the empower staff tree. Your goal is the burst of light skill at the bottom right of the tree, which is ridiculously broken and one-hits basically everything. You'll have plenty of opportunities to use it throughout the game and you'll get this achievement by accident for certain while playing this character. The word of command skill isn't bad for this either since it can liquefy weaker enemies and still one-hit some hardier ones, but this has the same problem of not being able to make full use of the lynchpin skill sundering command until level 10.
Farin (the dwarf) is another easy character to get this with, but like Andriel the skill you need is way at the bottom of a skill tree. Your goal is explosive bolt, which is another game-breaking skill that outputs absurd damage. If you're interested in making things easy for yourself as soon as possible then you'll get this achievement by accident because explosive bolt makes the game a cakewalk just like Andriel's burst of light skill. If you like making your life difficult, then you have to make sure you remember to whip out that skill when bunches of weak enemies group up.
Some further notes if you forego the ballista...
Damage for all classes revolves around the damage stat of your weapon and your strength stat. While anyone with any RPG experience would realize this sounds incredibly counterintuitive, the fact is that even Andriel's magic attacks are governed by the strength stat.
All three characters need strength to equip good weapons and stamina to equip good armor, so these two should always get a point when you level up. Andriel's dump stat is dexterity because the only thing it affects is ranged weapons (of which she has none) while Eredan and Farin are basically the same character and their dump stat is will. Basically, you should never spend points on Andriel's dexterity or Eredan or Farin's will.
As mentioned, the weapon is important too. Even at max level, if you pick up some crappy level 1 weapon then you are going to get your ass kicked. My experience has been that you have to buy most of the best equipment and this game fortunately has a great bug you can exploit for cash. When selling an item, hold and spam the button until you're as rich as you want to be. You can eliminate the entire economy problem in this game with that simple bug. HOWEVER, this has a tendency to empty out the bottom right tile while you're doing it, so make sure that square is either empty before you do this glitch or that nothing of import resides there. I lost a great many good weapons before I realized this was happening.
