How to unlock the More Like EleMENTAL Skylands achievement in The Messenger - Definitive Guide
In order to access the Elemental Skylands, some prior work must be done:
- You must have defeated the Butterfly Matriarch boss in the Rivière Turquoise area and received the Magic Firefly;
- Then you must go to the boss area of Quillshroom Marsh while in past (8 bit) where you previously defeated the Monk and have a dialogue;
- At last, also while in past find the Monk in the middle of the Glacial Peak stage in an area with two frozen lamps. The Monk will break the ice over the lamps. Go right for the portal and go to the future, then return to this area with the lamps to release Manfred from the ice.
Go to the Elemental Skylands with Manfred. This area alternates the traditional gameplay with some sections of shoot'em ups. While riding Manfred, a good advice is to frequently charge your shots holding X when you have the time, because it is powerful against enemies and destroys enemy projectiles. That is useful against the boss. After clearing this stage you will receive a music note making your way to the final boss.
You can return to this area of you miss Power Seals. Just talk to Manfred on the Glacial Peaks again.

The Elemental Skylands is entirely made of side scrolling/bullet hell action while riding on the back of Manfred with The Messenger only jumping off to quickly disabled a machine. Once you disabled all four machines you'll run into the cursed Clockwork Concierge. And since this is a side scrolling/bullet hell portion, there isn't much explaining to do. You'll want to mash the attack button instead of charging it up because it'll make it much more difficult to break through all the canon balls, bullets and enemies coming at you. Mashing the attack allows you to take down all the bullets, cannon balls and rockets much more efficiently than charging it up and potentially missing your shot.
The Concierge will start off slow at first and alternate between a rocket, a few cannon balls, small bullets and a few propeller type enemies that move on your location. Mash the attack and Manfred will mow everything down and any extra shots fired that break through will damage the Concierge as a bonus.
After you've hit him enough, his stomach will open and his mechanical heart becomes exposed. Manfred will automatically move in closer and The Messenger will jump inside and all you have to do is walk right up again the back of the stomach and mash jump attack chains over and over until he closes back up.
Keep an eye out for his enraged state, he will start filling the screen with rockets, cannon balls, bullets and enemies at a much faster rate so keep mashing that attack. Now you should be focusing on staying on the lower half of the screen to try and take out the cannons on the body so you have less to deal with.

Elemental Skylands scenario will be available only during the second part of the game. There are some steps to do before being able to reach the scenario:
- You must complete Rivière Turquoise first. In order to be able to play the Rivière Turquoise, you must complete the Dark Cave (see I Swear It's My First Time )
- Once you beat the boss of Rivière Turquoise, you will get a special "item" that will release the curse from one character you already met: the Queen of Quills. Reach her battle area during the past and she will be relieved from the curse.
- Go to Glacial Peak and you will see the image of Manfred in the map. Reach that area in the past and your new friend will use her power to melt the ice
- Go to the future and reach the same area. Free Manfred from the ice and he will take you in Elemental Skylands.
This scenario is a mix of platform and bullet storm. You will ride Manfred while fighting aerial enemies and sometimes, he will drop you on the ground, where you have to find 4 special machines to shut down.
At the end, you will fight a quite easy boss that will grant you a musical note.
