Story related, can not be missed.

There are multiple times that you will be required to use the rappel gear, but the first one will be shortly after you obtain it to lower down into the subway section. You just need to find the area with the rope setup over a hole and the press to rappel down it. Once you rappel for your first time, the trophy will pop.

You'll find and unlock the Rappel Gear as part of the story after the first boss fight. You can then head to any of the green squares and use the Rappel Gear to drop down to a different area of the map.
