When you first get the airboat it doesn't have a gun. After a good while you will eventually come to an outpost. Whilst you are talking to a guy a vauntigaunt will attach a gun to the airboat. Achievement unlocked.

Also story related, you will get this attached to the airboat in the chapter called Water Hazard.
