How to unlock the Got Your Back achievement in The Outer Worlds - Definitive Guide
Companion abilities require a couple of things, your Inspiration skill will have to be 20 to unlock companion abilities. Secondly Companions.
The first you'll have access to is Parvati, you can recruit her during the quest Stranger in a Strange Land. One of the first quests, in the town of Edgewater.
The second companion you can recruit is Vicar Max in Edgewater Vale on Terra 2. You can (it's optional) meet him during the main quest 'Comes Now the Power'. Finish his quest 'The Illustrated Manual' and he will offer to join you. - Thanks AssertionError
The third follower you can find is Felix, departing The Groundbreaker. He will be on the left side before entering your ship.
To use companion abilities you'll simply have to put a crosshair over any enemy in game and press and on the D-Pad. I recommend getting weaker enemies to half health if you want to guarantee the kill.

Mine has frozen on 44%, so seems random at when/if it will freeze. Hopefully it’ll be patched soon

I killed sprats, tracked every one of em and got achievement. Helps to slow time, aim crosshair and use companion ability.
Felix and Parvati work best this way.

I found a very good place to get this and a lot of the other achievements which require you to grind kills.
When you get to Fallbrook on the planet Monarch, you can find someone called Catherine Malin who will give you the quest ‘Slaughterhouse Clive’.
When you get to the front gates, save before entering.
1. Clear out the few enemies at the front and get the key off the leader.
2. Enter the compound and defeat the enemies in this area..
3. After a couple of rooms you will be in a large room downstairs where they keep all the live cysty pigs. All these pigs count as kills.
4. There’s another room after the pig room with enemies too.
5. Once the place is cleaned out - reload your save. Rinse and repeat.

Perfect. Got all my kills out of the way in this area. Best solution by far.

Worth mentioning that if you choose the sewer entrance to the facility which is to the right of the building in the water then the first room up the ladder from there has all the wurst pigs in. Save a little bit of time if you’re just after the chieve.

A very easy way of getting this is to wait until you're a higher level then return to Emerald Vale, your companion attacks will one shot nearly every enemy here since they remain a low level. Set your companions to passive mode and they will only attack when told to, I ended up getting my last 20 kills in less than 10 minutes this way.
If you're trying to get this naturally you should know that some companions work better for this achievement than others, any that have a long animation before they do their attack (Nyoka for example) will often attack a dead target, because your other companion will have killed them.

Thumbs up for the passive mode pointer. My high level guys were quickly killing everyone while I waited for cooldowns, so this helped.

- *To Unlock Companion Abilities "Inspiration" Skill must be at least 20!
- Once unlocked press Left or Right on the D-Pad when aiming at an enemy to have your companions use their abilities
- It's advised to get the enemy to low health before using the ability making sure than it gets the kill required for the achievement
- Remember the SAVE trick to help you grind this out faster
One trick that helps with all of the "do this X amount of times" cheevs...use the SAVE feature to RELOAD SAVES helping you grind those out easier. *However people have said that it can cause the tracker to stop going up...so if this happens, try saving after you do one run, SAVE on a new file, then RELOAD the old one. Rinse & Repeat.

*Tracking has been reported as buggy but I didn't have any trouble doing it my way.
To get this done and out of the way try this:
1. Accept mission from Ludwig, Miller to kill a robot ( Die Robot).
2. Find robot and save game.
*optional hold down on d-pad to keep your companion back till robot has low health).
3. Take robot health down to a small amount then have your companion (Parvati) hit the robot to kill it (left on d-pad)
4. Save game in another slot.
5. Load gave from before you killed robot.
6. Rinse and repeat till achievement is won..

In this video guide I will show you how to kill 50 enemies with companion abilities. Now first things first. If you started your character right off the bat with increasing the Charm and Temperament attributes. This will make the achievement easier. Another way to make this easier would be to put points into the Leadership category under skills. Not to mention there are some perks called: We Band of Brothers, Tag Team and Rolling Thunder to increase cooldowns. Also your companions have some perks to help. Nyoka and Parvati both have the perks called: Spec Ops, Echoing Thunder, Stonebreaker, and Long Winter for increased damage and cooldowns.
Now in order for this achievement to actually count, they will need to be finished off by the companion ability. All you need to do is look at an enemy or creature and hit left or right on the D-Pad. A good spot to get kills for this would be on Monarch. Look to the South by the water. There will be a factory called: C&P Boarst Factory. Head there and once you get there make a manual save. Now go ahead and kill everything in the factory. Including all the people, pigs, robots, and don't forget the worms on the floor count as well. Once you are done reload the manual save and keep going until the progress stops.
Now this is very important. You won't get progress for the same exact enemy. So when you get a kill with your companion ability, it won't count again. Just keep going after the factory if you need more kills. Once the final guy you need turns into ash the achievement will pop.

This guide applies to all playstyles and difficulties but is specifically directed to people playing on supernova and especially supernova players with low inspiration skill.
The achievement unlocks after you kill your 50th enemy with a companion ability. You must have unlocked at least one companion and have a base Inspiration skill of 20 or higher to unlock companion abilities. With one or two companions with you, target a low level enemy that can be killed with the ability--sprats are ideal. Execute the ability (and the enemy) by pressing . If a second companion is with you, the associated ability is executed with . After killing 50 enemies in this manner, the achievement will pop.
The enemy does not have to be killed with a single strike. The enemy's health can be whittled down and the coup de grace administered with the companion ability. Alternatively, if you have two companions with you, you can press followed by (or vice versus) to strike the enemies with both companion abilities in a one-two punch. Nevertheless, it is simpler to use non-aggressive low level enemies like (non-rabid) sprats that can be killed with a single strike of the companion ability.
If your playstyle relies on companions and you have decent leadership skills (inspiration & determination), the achievement should pop easily in normal game play regardless of difficulty. Remember to use the companion ability liberally.
If you have low leadership skills and prefer to keep companions out of combat, the achievement becomes more challenging. This might be the case if you are playing on supernova difficulty and are mindful that, if a companion is killed in combat, it is a permanent death. In such a case, you may want to grind specifically for the achievement.
Supernova difficulty grind with low inspiration and non-reliance on companions in combat. (This approach also works for any difficulty and any character build):
--For convenience, turn on the achievement tracker. Designate this achievement as a favorite so you can track its progress.
--Proceed through the game until you reach the town of Edgewater and meet with Reed where you acquire Parvati as a companion. Avoid killing sprats.
Note: If your inspiration is below 20, do not apply skill points to inspiration. Rather, when you level up, do not apply any skill points. Wait until you have sufficient points to bring Inspiration up to 20. If inspiration is below 10, one will have to level up twice to have enough spare points.
--If your inspiration is 20 or above or when you have sufficient unapplied skill points to bring your inspiration to 20, return to your ship and make a hard save. Do not overwrite this save. It is the one you will revert to after the achievement pops.
--If your inspiration is below 20, apply skill points to elevate inspiration to at least 20.
--Sleep till night-time.
--Exit the ship. Parvati will automatically accompany you. Return to Edgewater. Enter the main entrance and immediately exit again. This banks an auto-save.
--Turn left as soon as you exit back out of town and circumvent the perimeter of the town counter-clockwise. Note a Spacer's Choice poster on the wall to your left that says, "Taste the Freedom" and turn the corner.
--Shortly after you turn the corner, you will come across a number of sprats. They will be asleep and are not easy to spot. The first is near the base of a big vertical pipe running down a structure to the right. The remaining four are on an approximate line between that sprite and the corner to your front left. Crouch and approach each one making sure it is highlighted by the targeting reticle.
--Optionally, invoke tactical time dilation (TTD), to slow the action down.
--Kill the sprat with a companion kill by pressing when the sprat is targeted.
--Wait for the companion ability gauge shown on the bottom left of the screen to recharge. If you used TTD note that the TTD gauge recharges faster than the companion ability gauge. After the gauge recharges, target and kill the next sprat with the companion ability.
--Note that sprats sometimes (but not always) wake up. If so, you can generally reacquire them while waiting for the companion ability gauge to recharge. TTD helps to target an active, fast-moving sprat.
--After you have the 5 sprites, proceed around the perimeter to the far side of town wrt the main entrance just around the corner of what is depicted as the 'junkyard' on your map. There is no need to go into the junkyard.
--Kill another 6 sleeping sprats while crouching. Again, note that some of the sprats wake up. They may or may not go back to sleep in the intervals when you are waiting for the companion ability gauge to recharge.
--After killing as many of the 11 sprats as is convenient, reload the auto-save you banked when you entered town.
--Repeat the process killing another 11 sprats or so and reload the banked auto-save.
--Continue killing sprats around town's perimeter & reloading the banked auto-save when you run out of targets.
--Some sprats are well hidden and hard to find If you have trouble spotting them, ignore them and reload the banked auto-save before you reach the 11 count. Similarly, if sprats wake up and are not easily targeted, ignore them and reload the banked auto-save before you reach the 11 count.
--Keep an eye on the tracker. When you kill the 50th sprat with your companion's ability, the tracker will get to 100% and the achievement will pop.
--Load the manual save you made on the ship. If you were sequestering and not applying ability points, you are now free to apply them as you see fit and there is no longer any requirement to increase the inspiration skill. Continue with the game.
Note: The sprats can also be killed during the day but they will be active. They are very quick so killing them is more of a challenge and it is a little harder to get the companion kills. However, liberal use of TTD can help you target fast moving sprats.

Companion abilities are tied to the and buttons when you have companions with you. These can help immensely in battle and should be used often. You'll likely get this naturally, though you can force the issue by hurting enemies yourself and then using the companion ability to finish them off.
Easy farm method.
As long as the companion is the death blow, it counts to this trophy.
I used Nyoka abd Ellie as they seem to be the most useful. If you dislike those two then SAM is the next best choice.
Weaken an enemy then press left or right on the d-pad and they'll unleash their power. To speed this up, once you hit level 25 (even on hard) most of the enemies at Edgewater are one hit kills and you can rack up a lot of them through this.

Partner skills are activated by the left and right arrows. We hit the enemy, leave some health and finish off our partner with the skill.

You can boost by ordering the right and left arrows to kill ordinary rats. They are one-shot, so it doesn’t matter what weapon your teammates have or what difficulty you’re playing on.

Set the difficulty History
It is advisable to level up your stealth to 20
Pick up some club with high damage (in my case it was a Whirlwind Mace with Damage 148)
Next we move to Monarch and to the Cone Factory. To the left of the main entrance (where the guard is still standing) there is a river, if you walk straight along it you can stumble upon the passage to this factory. We go there and go upstairs. There we will see a bunch of defenseless pigs. We create a save and start killing them en masse in stealth mode. There are about 20 of them at the factory. Then we create another save to save progress and load into the previous save and repeat this 2-3 times
