How to unlock the A Star is Born achievement in The Outer Worlds - Definitive Guide

Should you wish to pass checks for exp/other cheevo progress, you'll need at least 5-6 intelligence.
Other requirements: 40 lie, 40 engineering, 100 intimidate.
Respec at The Unreliable (the left ladder in the bay Ellie frequents) if you need to.

Steps to theatre

Upon landing on Byzantium, you are required to take an elevator up to the higher levels. Its unmissable.

Hang a left at the top (the only option really) hang another left, and shortly on your right, a snazzy dressed fellow named Maverian Johnston is standing beside a drone.
Talk to him, accept his proposal to get the "at central" side quest.

Follow the quest marker to the studio, take the elevator on the left down upon entering, talk to the intercom (quest markered) and agree to what it says. Enter the room, approach the actor.
(Through many comments and testing) you at this point, may;

*remain silent

*kill the actors

*pass the following speech checks as I did:
40 lie
Intelligence
65 intimidate
40 engineering
100 intimidate (see edit)

*FAIL your checks

*Pick random choices

After the scene, talk to the director (door directly behind the actor)
Cheevo pops after you talk to him.

Happy hunting (>*_*)>

EDIT 3: Comments are welcome tho wishing for no more PMs on the matter, the solution has been reformatted. I will update a final time should a title update make this change

Ended up killing all the actors and still got it! Without even using any of dialogue checks.

Is this even possible to fail?
He clearly said that I won't get the role and yet the achievement popped.

I failed it but, I did also state I was running a corrupt save state, so Im unsure if the quest is glitched or if you just need to show up lmao hence the edit, I just dont know and havent had time to test it.

If you kill the director you can not get the achievement. I reloaded the save and had to play through again.

I couldn't find the guy but a workaround worked on two different playthroughs:
Go to the Odeon Pictures studio (it's right behind the quest marker for the Cartographer) once you can freeroam in Byzantium after talking to Sophia and take the elevator up. Talk to the intercom three times and go back down. He'll be standing in front of the door and ask you to star in his movie - which starts the quest.

There's so much incorrect information in this guide (really, telling people to respec?).

This guide is rather confusing, you can get the quest from Johnston by talking to him and agreeing to the job. In the recording studio, as far as I can tell you don't even need to bother with the skill checks at all, you can just complete the dialogue chain and the achievement pops.

The description of where to find this maverick are completely wrong. You make it sound like he's in the adjutants bit of the building.

"should you wish to", goth1.
This is a bugged quest so unlike the cheevo description you dont need to pass. The reqs are for those who WISH to.

Can't help you with your confusion, comrade. Wrote this almost 4 years ago.
I vaguely recall the top of the elevator being a corridor, and if so, you should see the guy on the street after said corridor. I could be wrong, though. The flying drone is what tipped me off immediately as to whom I was searching for.
I'll gladly accept the downvote, however rock

- The Side-Mission "At Central" is started by talking to a goofy dude named
"Maverian Johnston" who can be found on Byzantium in the Plaza.
Fast Travel to Terra 2,
- Adjunt Akande's Landing Pad (shown in the quick video)
- Byzantium Landing Pad

- You will be directed to the "Studio", just go there and choose whatever options you like. When the scene is over whether he's impressed or not you will get the achievement :)

Is this really 'missable'? I mean, other then finishing the game without completing the mission, is there really a point during the game that this guy no longer gives you the quest?

If you can't go back after completing a game it gets classified as "missable".
I do agree though that it's "lightly missable" compared to others, but you would have to get back to Byzantium again to get this if you didn't do it during your play.

The achievement is unlocked when you complete the At Central side quest in Byzantium. It is missable because you can get to the game’s point of no return without doing the quest.

Nevertheless, it is one of the easiest achievements. It can be unlocked on both branches of the story—the Halcyon Path and the Phineas Path. The quest becomes available when you arrive in Byzantium through either of the landing pads—Adjutant Akande’s or the docks. Talk to Maverick Johnston in Prosperity Square to initiate the At Central side quest. The achievement pops when you are notified the quest is complete.

It is not necessary to impress Johnston but the Board rep increase is higher than if he is unimpressed. You can impress him in two ways. First, by passing 2 of the 4 skill checks. Note that one is quite high and may not appear--so you may see only 3. Second, by choosing the Attack! Rehearsal’s Over dialog choice. In spite of this resulting in you killing the actors, your reward is higher both in cash (bits) and in the Board’s reputation increase.

The skill checks are Lie, Intimidate, Engineering, and a second, very high Intimidate (it can be as high as 150 if both DLCs are installed). There is also an Intelligence attribute check following the first Lie skill check but it doesn’t count towards Johnston being impressed. The Lie and Engineering skill checks are about 40.

If you have Nyoka and Parvati in your party that give bonuses for those respective skills, they should be fairly easy to pass. This is especially the case if you have given Nyoka the Bonus Support Lie perk and Parvati the Bonus Support Engineering perk. If you haven’t recruited Nyoka as a companion, you can substitute Ellie. However, although Ellie provides a bost to Lie she does not have the Bonus Support Lie perk.

If Johnston says, “There’s my star. Walk and talk with me. That was brilliant do you write your own material…” He was impressed. If he says, “Hey, I appreciate what you tried there… Don’t call us, we’ll call you…” he was not impressed.

If, by chance, you created a player-character with below average intelligence, you can select dumb options. If you select the dumb option every time, the actors will get annoyed and attack you. Kill them. Johnston will come out to praise your performance—obviously impressed.

Nevertheless, the achievement is unlocked by completing the quest regardless of whether Johnston is impressed or not or whether there is bloodshed or not. Moreover, this quest—whether or not you do it and your choices if you do accept it—has no effect upon the game’s endings.

Planet: Terra-2
Byzantium

When you go through the door from the docking bay to the city, turn right immediately and find a lift, go up the lift and after it reaxhes the top, exit and go immeidately left.

Follow the path to a crossroads and a man will stop you asking if you have an agent. Keep talking til the quest starts (don't back out early) and then follow the questline "At Central" it takes three easy steps with no drama.

Attend the Audition
Star in the movie
Talk about your performance. Trophy unlocked.

*MISSABLE*

This achievement is unlocked by completing the At Central side-quest on Byzantium. Find Maverick Johnson, follow the quest marker, and pass some speech checks to unlock the achievement. This is one of the quickest side-quests and achievements in the game.

Film agent Maverick Johnston is one of the first NPCs to greet you in Byzantium. Accept his invitation to filming and go to the studio, where (brilliantly, of course) act out the proposed scene (spoiler: this is not porn). Video guide .

To get maximum experience, money and reputation points for this quest, you need to reduce the shooting to a shootout in the dialogue..

If you have managed to seriously damage your reputation with the College, then you will not be able to take the quest to Byzantium

I didn't have Maverick Johnston on the street. If suddenly he is not in the place shown in the video guides, then go to the film studio. When I entered the film studio, he was standing at the entrance inside.
