How to unlock the Short Circuit achievement in The Outer Worlds - Definitive Guide
The super easy way:
- Change your difficulty to “story” (optional)
- Travel to Byzantium on Terra 2
- equip any weapon that has the blue lightning bolt icon
- save your game
- shoot Gardener robots, ad drones, security bots, or any other robots you see
- reload your game and repeat
NOTE: The above solution is exactly how I earned the achievement, but some people have issues. If the achievement does not seem to be progressing when you reload your save, try this: after you shoot the bots, save your game to a DIFFERENT slot, then reload your first save. Keep repeating this because saving your game seems to progress other achievements that normally don't.
From Cobb AUS: "Worked like a charm! Changed the difficulty every time i reloaded the save and it counted towards it."
From ChooseMyFate: "The tracker doesn't lock in your kills till you save in another slot. If you go to your achievements tracker after getting kills you'll notice that the bar is a different color gray for the kills you got. Save in another slot. Go to the tracker again and you'll notice it "locked in" the kills. Load the save before you killed the robots. Rinse and Repeat!"

Reputation doesn't matter. even a janitor bot sitting in an alcove will count.

- You need to use weapons with Shock elemental damage to kill mechanical enemies (super effective against automechanials too btw!)
- You can either find a shock damage weapon or just mod one yourself with a shock ammo mod
- To grind these you can make a SAVE when your close to a group of Robots,
The city of Byzantium on Terra 2 has tons of ad drones and others you could kill
I advise going w/o companions so they don't steal your kills. Then just go crazy on all the robots making sure to make a NEW SAVE before re-loading your OG SAVE file so that the kills stay registered!!
*You will see lots of these enemies throughout the game, IMO there's no need to "grind" this one, just make sure you have a shock weapon for the robots

In this video guide I will show you how to kill 30 automechanicals with shock damage. Now first things first. If you started your character right off the bat with increasing the intelligence and perception attributes. The damage will for weapons will be greater. Also making this achievement easier. Another way to make this easier would be to put points into the ranged category under skills. Not to mention there are some perks called: Scanner and Revenge for increased damage to help out. Also your companions have some perks to help. Nyoka and Parvati both have the perk called: Fine Aim for increased ranged damage.
Now a little insight on the weapons. If you look at the DPS color, it will be blue. Indicating shock damage. If you can't find a shock weapon, you can always mod one to make it shock. Go to your workbench on your ship or wherever. Then go into the weapon you want to use under modify. Next hit RT to go into the magazine types. If you have one it will be called: Mag-2-Zap. Make sure to put that on to start working on the achievement.
Now in order for this achievement to actually count, you will need to get the final blow with the shock weapon. The higher the damage the better the chance. A good spot to get a few robot kills for this would be on Monarch. Look to the South by the water. There will be a factory called: C&P Boarst Factory. Head there and once you get there make a manual save. Now go ahead and kill the robots that are at the front door, some right inside the living area, and in the factory. One other good area to mention is HRS-1084. This area has a good amount of robots as well.
Now this is very important. You won't get progress for the same exact enemy. So when you kill the robot once, it won't count again. Once you kill the final robot with a shock weapon, the achievement will pop.

This achievement unlocks after you kill 30 automechanicals (robots, drones, and the like) with a shock weapon. A shock weapon is a melee or ranged weapon configured with a modification that changes its damage type to shock.
You might find weapons with the mod already installed or you can modify weapons yourself. The mag-2-zap mod will convert a ranged weapon to deal electrical damage. The Mr. Shock mod will convert a melee weapon to deal electrical damage. There are plenty of robots to get the achievement through normal gameplay. Ensure you are using a shock weapon when fighting them. The achievement will pop after you kill your 30th automechanical with a shock weapon.
Shock weapons or mods to convert melee and ranged weapons to shock weapons can be found (or stolen) as loot in chests, cabinets, and other receptacles. They can also be looted from defeated enemies or bought from vendors or vending machines.
Recommended] approach:
As you near the main entrance to the town of Edgewater, you encounter Silas who gives you the side quest, A Small Grave Matter. You must collect fees from 4 people including Ludwig. With this quest active, follow the quest marker to find Ludwig. He's close by. Turn right before going in the main entrance to Edgewater and follow the path around town until you can turn right to the landing pad.
In addition to collecting the grave fees, you discover Ludwig's obsession with a machine rebellion. He will give you the Die, Robot side quest and instruct you to investigate a machine in the junkyard. Repair the machine. You can do it if you have a high enough engineering skill. Very likely, you will have to wait till Parvati joins your party and she will fix the robot for you.
Go to the canteen in Edgewater. Facing the bar, go left, enter a door to find the lavatory. Search behind the toilet to find a package. With the robot fixed and the package in hand, return to Ludwig who will reward you with a Mag-2-Zap mod. Apply this mod to a ranged weapon. An assault rifle is a good one to use.
As you proceed through Emerald Isle, you acquire the main story quest, Comes now the Power. You must go to the geothermal plant. There are automechanicals guarding the plant both outside and inside. Equip your shock weapon. Set your companion(s) to passive--you want to make the kills yourself companion kills do not count towards the achievement. For convenience, use the console's achievement tracker to monitor progress towards the achievement.
Kill the automechanicals outside the facility and enter. Kill the automechanicals inside the plant until you arrive at a room with hazardous steam vents. If you get the optional task, Reprogram the Automechanicals, do not use it. The task hacks the robots so they kill each other and these kills do not count towards the achievement. Similarly, if Jeremy, the robot you fixed in the junkyard, is present and offers his assistance, decline.
Once you arrive at the steam room make a save. If playing on supernova, backtrack, exit the facility and reenter. This will create an autosave. There are 6 automechanicals in the room with hazardous steam and just beyond. Kill them, load your save, and kill them again. Repeat this process several times until the achievement pops. Continue with the game. You are now free to kill robots and drones using any method you want.

Go to the "early retirement" area in Byzantium.
Create a save before entering.
Go in and kill all the robots.
Go to the next area through the manhole in the back (only way to go).
In the next area is another ~10 or so robots.
After clearing them all, save game in a new slot.
Reload the save you created before entering.
Repeat above.
A few runs and you'll have the achievement.

"Automechanical" is simply a fancy term for robots. Shock damage weapons are fairly common, and you can mod shock damage onto weapons you find as well, so you should have little issue getting this naturally. Just be sure to use your shock weapon any time you're fighting robots, even if it isn't your best.
Get a basic assault rifle that you are for sure going to be lugging around awhile and a basic +5 shock damage weapon mod. Sometimes you need a lot of bullets to kill some of the robots. The earliest in the game you do this the better. I think that Edgewater's general store sell the mod. Put it on the gun and every time you come across a robot, just kill the robots with that gun after spraying them a little first so the shock damage takes effect. Not all of the kills count but they add bonus damage exp when they do. I killed about 40-45 robots with just that gun before it popped. Ludwig on Edgewater has some missions that are great for this in the beginning of the game to start this on. It requires a little patience but it works.
The shock cannon is a great gun for this. You can get them from Marauders and from orher military based groups.
Some Vending machines late on in the game sell them too.
The easiest to pick off are the flying security bots that even on hard mode go down super quick with this cannons.
If you don't like the cannon, you can buy a mod from vendors (typically Rizzo's or the lady who runs the gun shop on The Groundbreaker). Mod it to an rifle and destroy all the robots you can find.

If during the passage you didn’t have enough of a couple of robots (like me), you can boost it on Scylla or combine it with the “Ludwig was right” trophy.

There are a lot of automatons in quests in Byzantium - to search for the Shprys and the area of pensioners.
